I know this post probably belongs in the hotel info section but am posting here due to this information's far wider implications.

The Eid holiday season has started so dxb wants to project a family friendly face for the numerous GCC Arab visitors. In that regard most 4 star and below hotels and apartments have been instructed to be very strict with room visitors. The usual 'guest friendly' or green hotels may still be open to visitation but I got hassle from my regular hotel apartments and they said they wouldn't let the gals in under any circumstance. I inquired with other hotel apartments and some had the no guests and one said they had a 1 visitor for each checked-in guest and a 150 AED visitor fee.

I in the end couldn't find suitable accommodation but then I was looking for a 2-bed apartment as I was planning to be part of a posse and not alone. YMMV with respect to single rooms in 5-star properties.

Point is that you do your recce before booking in this period. I was told this strict policy is in place since Ramadan. BTW most of us know that calling a hotel will get you the 'standard' reply. Find out from reliable sources whether a property is guest friendly or not.
