It seems Scatman doesn't seem to understand the most basic concept: veterans of Tijuana aren't on here asking for the cheapskate route from the airport to ZN. No one is asking for the absolute cheapest route. Yeah, if you want the absolute cheapest route with no regard for time or your personal safety, then listen to Scatman's advice. Newbies are asking for the optimal route, balancing time, comfort, convenience, safety, simplicity and cost. Something Scatman has miserably failed to consider. Scatman obviously lacks the mental capacity to consider that many newbies will be arriving after dark. And he is recommending that newbies walk a mile, at night, lugging a suitcase through one of the most dangerous sections of Tijuana, a city with the 5th highest murder rate in the world. A gringo monger flush with puta-cash walking with a suitcase towards ZN will surely attract the attention of rateros and policia alike. And why take this risk? Because Scatman's route will save you a grand total of $1 USD! Why take Scatman's $1 shuttle from PedEast to PedWest and then walk a mile through Homicide Row when you can just take an Uber or bar shuttle from PedEast to ZN for $2 USD? You'd only be spending $1 extra and saving 45 minutes along with possibly your wallet and life.

So a question for you newbie mongers. What sounds better to you?

1) Get off trolley, cross at PedEast, take $2 Uber and arrive safely in ZN. (ClamSlammer).

OR.

2) Get off trolley, wait for $1 shuttle to PedWest, cross, then walk a mile with your bags and a pocket full of cash through one of the most dangerous sections of the #5 murder capital of the world in order to save $1. (ScatMan).

Of course a convenient way to go from downtown San Diego to San Ysidro is to take the BlueLine Trolley. That would be faster and cheaper than any bus.

I believe they are white vans with red paint that say SD rounded swoosh arrow TJ. I personally have not taken one but someone who did mentioned they leave maybe from Seaport Village Area?

The one I usually take they say the last bus leaves at 8 pm but in reality is 7 pm. I'm strictly a day time monger so for me is a fit. Anyway there's all kinds of bus companies behind McDonald's. And is not only Mexicans that take them. I transition from my car to car rentals to buses in my La Coahuia trips. I'm thankful for these buses cause I've passed out on my way home.

Planning my next visit. Is Palacio Azteca Hotel chica friendly in terms of agencias and having the girls come upstairs?

Normally at Premier and Ticuan the front desk will ask if I am expecting a visitor or in my case a chica and I say yes and they let her up.

Is this the case with Palacio Azteca? Will they cause trouble? Will they be too straight laced. I've heard this place is out of the main entertainment hub and seems more for other things outside of the sex world.

Longtime lurker but it's been probably 4 years since I've been to Tijuana. Will be in SD soon and trying to find out what the new rules are when crossing on foot. I've backchanneled the posts and see that it appears you now have to present your US passport to Mexican officials when entering via PedEast? I'd like to avoid having my passport stamped with a Tijuana visa if possible. Do they always stamp it or is it up to the official? Anyway around this outside of the passport card? I remember the past where you would just walk right past the Mexican officials who really didn't seem to care about anything. Thanks in advance.

With a Passport card they do not stamp it. They still record that you crossed however. Not really sure if stamping is mandatory. But my guess it is.

But my guess it is.[/QUOTE]Stamping is hit and miss. If you enter late at night you are more likely to be just waved through with no paperwork. And if you find a way to be driven in there is no check for passport.

Thanks for the feedback on the passport stamps. One last question. What do I tell the taxi driver when leaving the Zona to make sure I get back to PedEast? I used to say "la linea" or "Los Estados Unidos" but want to make sure I get back to the PedEast crossing and not the PedWest one. Looking forward to my journey!

I have had this happen more than once.

Most also understand enough English to know "Old Border" and "New Border. ".
