Any of these non-tourist places have beaches nearby? I go to Sosua and / or Cabarete because they have nice beaches (as well as lots of action).
You could try explring further east on the coast along highway 5 to Rio San Juan and Nagua, beautiful beaches like playa grande. Go further and you hit the Samana pennisula. Often there are much less touristy towns you can explore just going inland from the beach towns.
The Golden Rule to Dealing with Women Especially Working girls, and I want every Monger to understand this, Is That.
If a women truly likes you and love you, She will not want any money from you.
Example Just like Real Life Friends, You know who your real friends are when your down on your luck and broke, If you have friends that only hang around you because you can offer them something, They are not your friends.
Same Thing with women, If a women truly loves a guy she won't want any kind of money from him no matter how flat broke and poor she is.
Force,
You are such a romantic. I bet you watch the soap operas on TV.
No woman will hang around with a deadbeat unless she has nowhere else to go.
[red]Then I began to fall so low,
Lost all my good friends, I did not have nowhere to go.
If I get my hands on a dollar again,
I'm going to hang on to it till that eagle grins.
Cause no, no, nobody knows you.
When you're down and out.
In your pocket, not one penny,
And as for friends, you don't have any.[/red]
I know an attractive woman from La Union whom I believe has three kids by local guys, but last time I saw her she was with her mom in La Sirena with a 30-something American husband in tow, and they all seemed very happy and keen to introduce me to the new guy. So much for the local guys.
Yes, some of the girls you have met may have local boyfriends. They are island people and may have grown up together since childhood. Lots of them will have sex with you too without a condom as long as they are on the pill. They will dump those local guys in a second if they have a shot at the big money.
[red]When you finally get back upon your feet again,
Everybody wants to be your good old long-lost friend.
Said it's mighty strange,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you,
Nobody knows you when you're down and out.[/red]

And when you stop sending money, They will show there true feelings.
This post belongs in the romance and dating sites somewhere else. We are mongers here. Mostly fuck and leave.
I can't speak for everyone but this is what works best for me. I don't care if guys say 1, 500 or 3, 000 is what they pay. I know what my price is and I'm sober when I go about my business. There are always options, including girls that don't frequent PC, the beach, charamicos, etc.
Of course there are crooks with regular jobs, but I tend to think of the many people that don't make much but work hard and don't sell out for the fast money. These people buy pampers too and it takes something not to sell out for fast buck, IMHO.
I understand your point and you are right. It is always good to know your specific stance with regard to a price point and not being drunk helps enormously. But Frannie's point was about the macro environment. I might be okay only paying a dollar for a gallon of gas but have no say in the final pricing. Of course, in this specific example of women in the D. R, fortunately we do have other options.
On the issue of sell out easy, perhaps I do not understand your sophistry but aren't we (the Johns) the mirror image (or the yin and the yang if you prefer) of a "puta"?

Again If a women truly loves you she will not want any kind of money from you, She will even give you her money, Which is why so many pimps get rich off of a prostitutes.
Trust me I use to be a bartender at a strip club. I have seen so many strippers and prostitutes give all there earnings to there so called Loser Boyfriend / Pimps, buying them clothes, cars and jewelry's all because she was so called in love.
My Point is just understand that these Girls in Sosua looks at you as a ATM Machine or in simplier terms, a Sosua Chick is just like a Gold Digger. That's it. If you ever fall on hard times and your money is gone, She will be gone too,
Because the whole relationship was based on Money / Support and Not Love, Which is why most of these Girls Leave as soon as she gets her green card. .
They look at a Gringo as a come up.
Guys are going to pay what they are going to pay. More power to you all, LOL.
When I walk up into D'Latin and see chicas that spend money on cat suits, fake hair and Samsung Galaxy 4s and Iphones (while I'm rocking an Alcatel!) , that is enough economics for me. Same as me exchanging my money at Western Union and seeing the line of chicas collecting from the various novios.
I have a cheap Alcatel myself, but I see very, very few iPhones in the DR and most chicas don't have the more expensive phones due to the high cost of data plans for them. Mostly they just want to call, message, and maybe Facebook (which you can do on free wi-fi).
The fake hair IS expensive, but this is really a business expense to make themselves look attractive, and beauty does not come cheap, even in the DR. In the day time they will often wear hair nets to protect the hair.
When I have been in Western Union or Caribe Express, I have not seen lines of chicas, but an assortment of people, including some chicas. Remember that many Dominicans get remittances from families overseas too. I have not been able to get close enough to determine if chicas are getting remittances from multiple novios, though that might be the case.
My policy in 2013 is to not go higher than 1,000 pesos. Like someone else said, it's not about what they ask but what you pay. It's a free market, open to complete negotiation.
Agreed, you can offer whatever you want for sex.
I'll be Mr. tacaño with the putas, but I won't be Mr. gringo pendejo. I'm generous when I see someone working hard and trying to make a decent way for themselves.
Is this actually because you don't have much money to spend, or is it that you have plenty of money, but your moral sense overcomes any instinct towards generosity? What about a waitress who has sex with someone after work for money? Would you tell other diners not to tip her because of her moral turpitude?
Perhaps you could hand out religious tracts on Pedro Clissante.
The girl I met in Sosua claimed she has only been there a month. She was 27, had two girls, very skinny. She seemed truly genuine. Had the kids by a guy in the states who took off and left her to her own devices. She asked me to help her get back to Santo Domingo and to help her pay her 3 month back rent so she could get back in her house. Her two daughters were living with her mom. The week or so were were together in Sosua she was quite kind.
My first $700 dollar mistake. I gave her $200 for taxi ride from Sosua to Santo Domingo and $500 to pay her back rent on the house she was renting. I, in my mind, was trying to help the girl. She seemed genuinly happy to be back in her home.
That was the last time this girl was nice to me.
After that she wanted $1000 for a used refrigerator, $600 for a new gas stove, $1000 to fix her dilapidated car and to pay her monthly expenses which were about $800 a month (rent, water electric, furniture payments etc).
I foolishly did it all (except the car). When I went to see her (I was going to see her bi weekly) the double door fridge she bought was used! I was so pissed. On top of that I would go to Wal-Mart and bring $200 dollars worth of stuff-pampers for her kid, soap, presents for her etc. Thats on top of all of her bills I was paying plus my airfare and rental car.
You would think this girl would treat me like a king. No way. She was loud, ghetto, aggressive and ungrateful. And my trips to Western Union never stopped. Her food needs went from $300 a week to $400 a week.
Two straws broke the camels back- I had a friend from the ISG forum call her and pretend he met her in Sosua before. Instead of her saying she has a novio now she totally accepted to meet him and stay with him for the weekend at at resort.
The second straw was her pressure to buy her a new car, new breasts and to marry her. I actually damn near got a 15k loan to buy her a car. But then out of the blue something hit me. The words "hell no". I broke off all contact though she still daily tries to talk with me.

I think many genuine girlfriends who have been in a "normal" love based relationship for years wouldn't stick around indefinitely if you "fall on hard times and your money is gone". That's a pretty high standard.
Within dominican and haitian culture "keeping" women in long term relationships if a man can afford it is an ordinary thing.
Placage is a common word in Haitian Kreyol meaning essentially a secondary marriage, a semi formal mistress.
It's extremely common for dominican guys who are as well off as most members here to have wives, mistresses, novias, favoritas and still pick up new chicas. Our label for older guys doing this is "dirty old man" the dominican spanish equivalent is "viejo verde" literally a green old man. Emphasis on unexpected virility rather than opprobrium.
Each tier of relationship has expectations. Mistresses expect support and they expect not to be insulted by seeing the guy with other chicas near where they live. As long as they are supported the same is expected of them, not that they will be purely faithful but that they won't let the hood see them being unfaithful. Having another guy in the apartment paid for by their main guy would be a serious issue. Messing with somebody in another town would not.
Ordinary young chicas can be friendly to older gringos in this context. The same way they would dominican older guys with some money. It's a very harsh view of human nature to think people are often completely false in long term relationships, that they are ONLY there for the money, that one source of cash is just the same as another. My relationships with people are mostly a complex mix of different motivations. I tend to view all human relationships as to some extent calculated and self serving including the most selfless like parents and children. I also view mercenary relationships as in business as often being influenced by friendship, attraction, jealously and other emotions.
Even in the US there are pay for play girls I have good "relationships" with over years. I enjoy their company. The fact I pay them for sex absolves me of deeper more expensive obligations that would come if the sex was "free".
What is the moral of this story? The girls you meet in Sosua are not the girls who you think they will be back in the USA or as wives or even as decent girlfriends. They will constantly push the envelope to get more and more money and will sleep with another guy at the drop of a hat. Why? Because at the end of the day she is a prostitute.
Do not marry these girls. Do not send them money. Do not take care of their kids. Do not go to their houses or pueblos. And do not trust them.
Showdown
Qué queeeeeeeé? (What?) This is a horror story whith no happy ending, or is she dead?
To those guys who go to the DR and think they will marry a young and beautiful Dominicana uncorrupted by western values think again. Take them out of the DR and it won't take long to adapt to your culture and values. You then have an under-educated bimbo who will serve as a trophy wife at the janitors reunion. It seem amusing to see them off to the hair dressers or nail salon as a distraction but it it is really an obsession. You are an ATM machine that fuels a lifestyle they could not otherwise have. Most Dominican men are dumb and lazy. The women are not much different. If you marry one make sure you are subscribed to the cable channel that has spanish novellas because that is where they .
Oh my god another horror story, Hallowen in June? Thanks for sharing. A happy ending for this story will be, :she got electrocuted by the hair dryer.
very interesting your's and Showdown stories.

The psychologists will tell us that losing a job or having financial difficulties is one of the prime reason why marriages (relationships) go south. It even brings problem for the children with mistreatments as lack of money is a major stressor. This is true around the Globe but of course is seen more often and clearly in the West where women are independent and can afford to live separately.
Interesting perspective on viejo verde: appreciation rather than opprobrium!
