Is this actually because you don't have much money to spend, or is it that you have plenty of money, but your moral sense overcomes any instinct towards generosity? What about a waitress who has sex with someone after work for money? Would you tell other diners not to tip her because of her moral turpitude?
Perhaps you could hand out religious tracts on Pedro Clissante.
Very funny. Reminds me of the Jehovah Witnesses that were trying to convert me while I was having brunch at Baileys recently.
Of course I could pay more, but why do it? One thing I agree with Oldkool on is his statement that Sosua is a "buyer's market." I like doing things on "my terms." For me, getting shit on my terms is just as satisfying as everything else. I'm not in Sosua to solve a puta's problems. I've had chicas come at me for 500 pesos more than once during trips so I don't see 1, 000 as a big deal. Like I said, if they want a new blackberry or need some dude to buy them a Hennessy in D'Latin, I'm not the one. They will find the guys in their price range and I will find the chicas in mine. I get my nutt and then its off to the next thing.
As far as the waitress, if she is fucking a gringo after work, more power to her, but at least she is working a regular square gig, which is something I value seeing. Something about it signals character and responsibility in my eyes.
I don't hold the opinion that every female in Sosua is a hoe. I've seen some of these girls grow up. I can't speak for what everyone does, but I know chicas that I have never personally witnessed selling pussy on PC or the beach or their pics on monger sites in almost a decade. I'm not saying that they've never done it or don't do it, but I haven't seen it.
After that she wanted $1000 for a used refrigerator, $600 for a new gas stove, $1000 to fix her dilapidated car and to pay her monthly expenses which were about $800 a month (rent, water electric, furniture payments etc).
I foolishly did it all (except the car). When I went to see her (I was going to see her bi weekly) the double door fridge she bought was used! I was so pissed. On top of that I would go to Wal-Mart and bring $200 dollars worth of stuff-pampers for her kid, soap, presents for her etc. Thats on top of all of her bills I was paying plus my airfare and rental car.
Kinda at a lost for words after this one, but thanks for sharing.
I haven't read this yet, but I was told it is a good read for mongering 101. Perhaps it might help others from having to go through a similar ordeal. http://www.stephenleather.com/private-dancer.pdf

Takes place in Thailand but is universal for mongering. A must read for every Monger!
I don't know what some girl SHOULD do, but I usually talk them down to 500 for FS. My very first experience in BKK was a HJ at a massage parlor and I am damn sure I didn't give 500 baht for it and neither did my wingman who was in the curtain next to me. More like 200 or 300 max. She gets 150 for the oil massage (100 if it's Thai or foot) and will be lucky to get three or four custoners during her 12 hour shift so why are you trying to get the girl to agree to jerk you off for 200 or 300 baht just because you can get away with it knowing she needs the money. If you have been on this board any length of time then you know there is nothing "standard" about me. I'm not in it to put food on anyone's table. I am in it to get my rocks off.
I just see more shades of gray between a true love and a hard core mercenary puta. I think many genuine girlfriends who have been in a "normal" love based relationship for years wouldn't stick around indefinitely if you "fall on hard times and your money is gone". That's a pretty high standard.
Within dominican and haitian culture "keeping" women in long term relationships if a man can afford it is an ordinary thing...
Have you guys ever watch the movie Casino? With Robert De Niro,
Robert De Niro had a wife that was a known working girl, and he tried to turn a working girl into a house wife, He gave her everything she could of ever wanted but she gave all her riches to a loser boyfriend because she was in love.

No waitress in the DR makes any MONEY just as a waitress. If you are satisfied with your waitress, would you give her enough tip to buy herself a Hennessy in appreciation of her character, etc.? I doubt it.
The prostitutes in the bar who say "OK. 1000 pesos short time, let's go" are providing you with EXACTLY the service that makes YOU HAPPY, and yet you seem to have less respect for them. However, while you may be a fine specimen, doesn't having sex with old men or fat tourists, some of whom smell of cigars or beer, take a certain amount of character to take on unpleasant work that many would not relish?

If they wanted to go with a fat smelly mf for whatever amount then they had the final say, not the punter. So it may be time to set them straight since they seem to make such poor choices.
So what side gig do the waiters do if there is no money in the industry?

For female waitresses in tourist areas, dates with customers or remittances from boyfriends overseas are obvious potential sources of secondary income.
I am not sure of the current pay for waitresses, but recently I spoke to a very attractive hotel receptionist in Puerto Plata who is bilingual in English and she told me she gets paid 8000 pesos per month for full time work that includes weekend shifts. I confirmed her salary from a second source. 8000 pesos is equivalent to US$200. Waitresses may or may not also get some extra income from tips, depending on the establishment.
Last week a registered nurse working in a local emergency clinic told me she makes 30, 000 pesos per month working 12-hour shifts. That is equivalent to US$750. In the US a similar job would pay $4000 to $5000 monthly or more, depending on what state. (Much more in NY or California.)
How much does your affluent "flowers on the bed" girlfriend earn in the DR?

Hard choices
I have two good Amigas who are non pros. They make 6 k pesos a month for 6 day work weeks. This the norm. These poor girls have no frills in their lives. Education is not very usefull There are no jobs that pay. Leaving the country is almost impossible for the average citizen. Most girls hate being putas theydo what they have to do to survive. They walk in very tight shoes. DRugs and drink help them get through their days. Not to mention they have a very short shelf life on the streets. When you reach 30 you are over the hill.

I said nothing about religion and I'm not trying to convert anyone to any religion or belief system.
An example of a regular square gig would be the waitresses at Rocky's. I'm not concerned about how much they make, but the fact that they are willing to have a regular job signals value to me. Perhaps others feel differently and that is OK too. I don't base my value system or how I interact with Dominicans on what mongers think.
As far as the DR is concerned, I've relied on my personal experiences in the DR, having Dominicans in my family, living amongst Dominicans in NYC, and having read many books about Dominican culture - including several books used in the Dominican school system to teach Dominicans about societal norms and values, etc. (see pic below for example).
When I give a person a tip, I don't care how they use it. If they really need money to buy drinks in D'Latin after work, that is their prerogative. I'm not there to solve their problems or pontificate to them about how to live life.

Why would any chica take a job as a waitress at Rocky's, which is a monger crowd hangout, except for a chance to meet mongers or tourists and get a shot at some real money? It has nothing to do with character.
The chicas who sit around in the bars are working for a living too, often having to put up with a very noisy and smoky atmosphere for hours on end for the chance to meet a man who will pay them for sex. Personally it would drive me nuts to have to stay in one of those places more than the five minutes it takes to grab a chica and leave.

By definition, I guess a person would run into tourists, if they work in the tourism industry or a tourist zone?
Perhaps every chica in Sosua would like to meet a gringo to solve all of their problems, but I'm not sure what that has to do with deciding to work as a cook, waitress, Orange store clerk, etc. versus becoming a puta on Pedro Clisante.
Perhaps every chica in Sosua would like to meet a gringo to solve all of their problems, but I'm not sure what that has to do with deciding to work as a cook, waitress, Orange store clerk, etc. versus becoming a puta on Pedro Clisante.
But look, most of the chicas working as putas can't get other jobs, because they don't have the necessary educational level or even the Dominican equivalent of high school graduation, so they can't handle money for a business, nor do they have the written, numeracy, and language skills necessary for a job in a place like the Orange shop.
Even a job cooking in a restaurant or as a waitress requires some basic culinary or service skills and many have done tech college courses locally in the hotel industry to help them get these jobs.
Of course the many Haitians do not have visas that allow them to compete with Dominicans for jobs with benefits, so they end up in massage parlors or working as putas, or possibly as domestic help or child minding. I don't see that as being a moral issue, but simply a case of making the best of the poor hand that is dealt to them. And isn't it the case everywhere that people will gravitate to the work where they can make the most money with whatever qualifications or skills they may have?
But my main point is that since your primary reason (I think) for coming to the DR is to have sex with different women, then why should those women who provide you with what you want at a price you can afford to pay be regarded any less highly than those who provide you with other services? Surely you WANT women to be available in bars so that they are ready to come with you and service your sexual needs when you wave your 1000 peso bill under their nose.
After all, as men who travel for purposes of sex with prostitutes, we are hardly in such an elevated position as to be able to look down our noses at our partners in this industry.
So pay whatever you want to pay or whatever you can afford, but don't make out that you are some kind of moral philosopher.
