Thanks to Sperto I became a Centro Prive devotee. They are great.
My favorite is Vital Space Therapise on Pres Vargas 482 Room 1514. The girls there are all great and I did them all. Not one bad experience. My personal favorite is Gisele.

Don't worry about speaking Portuguese. They don't care. I used google translate everywhere. Great thing about having Tmobile here in US is they give you unlimited data in Rio with 4 g in many places 3 G the rest.

As long as your apartment / hotel is girl friendly, you should be OK with the girls. The worst thing a Brazilian can be is a thief; it's considered extremely low class. More of a risk when getting take out from somewhere like Mabs.
You'll be fine in any of the 2nd tier termas in centro (MV 30 and the like) as well as the prives anywhere in the city. VM is probably not the best idea if you're solo and don't speak any portuguese.

I will be visiting Rio around January 11th for a week. I have been to Rio 5 times but. Not in the past 7 years. I was thinking about staying in South Beach (hotel) in Copacabana. I want to visit Centaurus. (Was my favorite term in Rio).
Is anyone going to be there during that week that would like to hang out?
Is there any recommendations for a Hotel similar to South Beach in Ipanema?
Is the WhatsUp used a lot in Rio. Can you connect with them in the States? Wanted to know so that I could set something up before I got there.
I will start with Hotside and see if I can set up something up before I get there.
Any recommendations for places to go while I am there or how to set something up with a girl before I get there?

Not to start a debate, but I don't see those as being a reason not to go. Although I can speak passable Portuguese, all of the times I have been there, I almost never need to speak to anybody. Just get out of the taxi, bus or train, walk around, choose what you like, ask how much, pay it and go upstairs (although it took me years to finally session with a chick there, but that's another subject, LOL). Not much Portuguese needed for that IMHO. As far as going solo, if you follow the route and take normal precautions, you should be good (always a possibility of something going wrong). I would suggest that a newbie go during daylight (if you're not comfortable traveling at night) so you can see where you are going better and get acclimated to the area.
It took me a few years (sometime in the mid to late 2000's) to finally make the trek to VM, due to the negative things that was said about the place. My buddies who checked it out before me made it sound like the worst place ever (just mentioning it made them cringe, LOL), took me a while mostly because I was busy with other things, but I finally said screw it, took a train (following instructions from these sites) and went solo. I've been going solo since and never saw anything to cause me any concern about returning.
Of course speaking Portuguese and having a road dog is always better, but don't let the lack of those things stop you. Do your research of how to get in and out of there and you should be fine IMHO. I'm sure Backdoor and other vets have better experience than me, but I'm just basing this on my experience and observations over the years.

About Thailand, a little travel tip. It is one of the top destinations in the world, especially from Europe, but it is not the final destination. In talking with a number of hotel operators in Bangkok, I found out many people stay only one night because the fares connecting through Bangkok were cheap. If you are planning a trip to another SE Asia destination always check the routing through Bangkok.

4 por 4 is not as good as in the past, it is too stressful, there are many other cheap termas, they have rooms with bathroom the only inconvenience there is no sauna or robe.
Taxes are now bad in Brazil, they increased price by 10 reais to be able to pay their facility. That is why Brazil will never be stable.

A friend gave me a list of places he wants to check out. He believes some of them to be called " Offices". I looked over the list myself and I know some of them to are clubs (discos). The others I'm not sure about.

I have to stay the talent is not what it use to be from last year. Plus I remember when 4 x 4 was jam packed, it seems like the Brazil Crisis is taking its toll. I can predict that the 4 x 4 will be closed by next year. I will give you a guys my full report tomorrow.

For 40 K miles you can book from New York (or LA) to Fra on UA or Lufthansa stay for 24 hours and fly on to BKK. If you want to go to The Philippines you can stay a night in BKK and then go to MNL on Thai. All for 40 K. I hate the crap hole known as Angeles so I stay in Thailand. But Singapore or Jakarta is also possible.

I would think it would be work to pull girls because we don't go there on the regular, but if we did, brazilian whom want to socialize with gringos would start to come there.
I can see them letting you all up front, seeing that they play American music they should want alot of gringos in there.
Its like going to Brazilian club here in the states and no Brazilians are there. They should be running a free shuttle from copacabana to their club.
