Jakarta - Hotels

From memory they no longer have the bar on the 1st level which sometimes had a few girls lurking. You are a very short walk from the Ritz Carlton which has an upmarket bar were girls can be found. Also very close ( walkable) is the bar Cazbar where you can have a good meal, Wi-Fi etc, I think they have a ladies nite also.

APhrodite Bar has its moments..5 minutes in a taxi, as is the Galaxy MP. Just another short stroll is the Mall Ambassador and ITC Kuningan, it is possible to chance your arm there as you wander about the kiosks.

10 minutes in a cab, after peak hour, to either Blok M or the Kota area.

Would be visiting jkt this weekend. My client normally puts me near Danau Sunter. Only place close I went last time was a Cleoptra! Had stayed in Khartika tough. Can someone recommend hotels near to action like blok m. Seen the reports thks MDII. Hotel mulia, meredian, shangri la. Can't figure out much. Looking near usd 65-85 range hotels.

May travel to palembang though not sure with last week GA flight? Any action in there and hotels girls friendly. Menteng yr wisdom sorted. Many thanks. Wl post report on return.

Both hotels are about the same distance from Marriot but I have a feeling the traffic from Gran Melia will be a lot easier than the Intercontinental. If you asked me to choose, I'd stay at the Intercon - personal preference (they even had a choice of pillows for you to sleep on - check the pillow menu in the room). It's also Panya's favourite hotel for the relative quietness near so much chaos. Intercon is nearer Kartika (if I have my bearings right) but in rush hour traffic, that's almost meaningless. I dont know if they've constructed a busway down Kuningan but the Intercon gives you the option of the Express Busway just a short walk away (access to Blok M in the South and up near Hayam Wuruk in the North - even during the famous macet/traffic jam). Intercon is also much nearer to Le Meridien and Shangri-La hotels. Neither hotel has anything to go for in-house unless the massage facilities yield some as yet uncovered gems. Either way you should have fun - enjoy!

You could try the following hotels:

The Atlet Century Park
Grand Flora
Grand Kemang

These have close access to Blok M.

Gran Mahakam is also nearby but that may just be out of your budget. I know some people are ok with Alila (right next to Kota) but frankly, it's not my cup of tea. Just surf the Indotel website - [url]www.goindotel.com[/url] - and confirm prices by calling or faxing. Kaha prices will be (very) slightly cheaper if you feel comfortable waiting until you arrive to book your accomodation. You might want to check out Park Lane Hotel (some in-house possibilities) Manhattan Hotel (good price but nothing in-house) Nikko hotel (opposite Plaza Indonesia) Le Meridien (might just squeeze in upper end of your budget) Harris (good price but perhaps out of the way). Grand Flora and Grand Kemang are in the Kemang area (also useful for when the wife/girlfriend is around but need to take a taxi to the action most of us are seeking).

Just to add to the good advce from MDII - you can certainly get into Le Meridien within your budget if you book through asiarooms - 66 USD last time I booked and that was for two people with breakfast. Park Lane is a couple of dollars cheaper and just as good (better breakfast) though I prefer Meridien as I've been going there since it openned and it's near to places I like (eg Plaza Indonesia). Alila is "an aquired taste", I only stayed there once and the main problem I had was I could never get a taxi quickly enough and the location was not ideal (for me). You can always get a girl in le Meridien in the evening (and often during the daytime) though the standard is err....varied.

Thanks for the advice anybody has a dependable driver at a good rate I can get a daily charge with good car good english and honest I have a bunch of sales calls to make and would make my life easy.

I paid $77 last month using Asiarooms, but I'm sure that the pricing varies for the dates and how far in advance you book it.
