It's up in Pietonville, about 3 blocks west of Place St. Pierre. Another good place is Jetset, just north of the Place. Well, Badbear has us all 'whipped' with his stories, and he's right to say you can go to lots of places. I've lived here a few months and as you all know, it's pretty easy to find girls, but security has also been much dicier than even six months ago, so one really needs to take care. But what about all those reasons that 99.9 percent of us won't go there? Are you working for a Haitian kidnapping ring to lure over a bunch of mongers to kidnap them and then demand ranson from their wives back in the states? LOL

But seriously now, I've visited the Dominican Republic several times over the past few years specifically to meet those lovely Haitian beauties that come across the border. I had good days and bad days....and on the good days I was not disappointed! Is it possible for a middle-aged white guy in cargo shorts with a digital camera and pocket full of money to have a good time without getting totally robbed or worse. The Haitian economy is the worse in the world and all those young Haitian men, like the women, are willing to do what it takes to get a few bucks to live and have a good time. Only part is that the men do could do it in a violently displeasing way! Like robbing you or worse doing a kidnapping! That's why we stay on the Dominican side.

Is it time to cross the border.....for a clear-headed, adventurous, but not naive monger? Any straight thoughts on this would be appreciated.

For a newcomer it is best to be with some one. I would not advise going ouy by yourself. Most of the

haitians are good guys. It is the ones that came to Miami and NY and ran with the gangs that have given Haiti a bad name. Also the few that Aristide gave guns and promised them the world if they would back him. I never heard of anyone getting kidnapped while they were with someone.

Badbear is right about that, and where a good bit of the badness comes. Don't go out by yourself, really, particularly if you're only visiting and don't know at all where you're going.... I do it, but only very judiciously. I spend more time out by myself in the daytime--when chica can also be found..., checking out what i believe are safe steets scenes, football matches, some festivals..just to get haitian 'sea legs' and know how things should feel, i think...And if you really wear cargo shirts and the digital camera and flashing money...well, that's just asking for an international incident...so really, don't go out dressed conspicuously. I wouldn't even trust all the 'police' vehicles i see, though their presence is appreciated....What could be a good business here, for aspiring mongers particularly, is to have taxis and drivers and cars that you can rent reasonably and have some escorted 'cover' to get around in, but nothing like that exists just now...or it does, but for pretty, by haitian standards, exhorbitant rates.

The Visa Lodge is Girl friendly but the area is not too good and it is hot during the summer months. I was doing a job there. It depends how long you are going to stay and your finances. If I am going to stay in Petionville and I have the funds I would stay at the El Rancho. If I wanted to spent from $35 to $40 per night I stay at the Imperial off Delmars. They have security, wireless internet, and a pretty good restaurant. When I was staying at the Vida Lodge, I was doing a contract for them and it was not costing me anything. The rates then were $70 plus screw you taxes. It is now $90 plus screw you taxes and the grand sons have taken over. They have changed the place quite a bit and I don't think for the good.

If you have a taxi or driver, you go up Delmars and keep your eye out on the right side. You will see a Sign saying Imperial Hotel. You will go down that street about 3/4 of a mile. There is secure parking and many of the Haitians visiting will stay there with their local honeys. Some of the wealthier Haitians will stay there out of sight from Friends and families. I think I may have been the only white guy there but I was treated with respect. I use to stay at a place up in Petionville for $35 per night but without any improvements they raised the price to $70 which I thought was ridiculous because it was one of the bring your ***** for a while hotel. It hardly ever had hot water and the TV sucked. The Imperial was very surprising to me as it was my first time. The rooms are small but hey if all you want to do is sleep and get Mr Happy taken care of it is a good deal. You can spend your money on the sweetie and not the hotel management. When one of the girls visited one of her men friends, she brought a friend with her. I immediately saw she was just killing time so I got her into my room. This was back in Feb this year. Yes, they should know. If nit just tell them to go up Delmars and watch for the big sign on the right side. The price use to be $20 U.S. but with the prices of fuel it is hard to say but I would not pay more than $30. Haggle with them, argue with them. Start off at $20 and don't back down until you absolutely see there is no chance. Do you know when you are going. If my friend gets his car running he would probably be even a better bet. Or if I am there we can handle it. Just let me know when you are going and I will try and have him at the airport. You can just hold a cardboard sign with his name on it so he could recognize you. I use to have a friend that was a good cab driver and tourist guide but I lost his number a long time ago,
