I’m wondering, other than the Via Espana/Veneto area, are there any other places where SWs/Beat Hos tend congregate? A Panamanian national last time showed me around the Porras Park area, I noticed a lot of hotels in dotted the neighborhood, my driver made it sound like these places where the Notell variety. Are there any locals who can shed some light on this subject?

I had been about 7 years since my last visit to Panama City, I arrived on Thursday evening, stood in a long line for immigration only to be told I needed a toursit card - WTF, anyway 5$ to the COPA counter and I was on my way. Shared a taxi with a couple from Mexico, we all agreed on $15 for each party since we were using different hotels. The Panamanian skyline looks like Soth Florida in before 9-1-1. Stunning amount of high rise development - an estimated 30,000 condo units planned or under construction. 9 of the 10 tallest building in Central America are in Panama.

Had a business dinner in Casco Viejo (Mostaza), excellent food, great feeling walking around in this old historic district. Sort of blend of old san juan and early french quarter New Orleans. This area has terrific upside. I did not se any obvious monger actvity in this part of the city that evening. After dinner coffee, and cigars migrated to the Veneto.

The reports on this site are very accurate, the casino was packed, lots of locals-couples, live music and many independents on the prowl, strategically positioned around the penny machines and the nickel roulette wheels. Lots of eye contact and friendly smiles. All sizes and shapes, with the majority in the 5-6-7 range. I was approached a couple of times, but no one stuck my fancy and I ended up in the poker room.

Next day I visited the Oasis for the lunch special, 6 girls on the floor, I chose a 19 yr old Columbiana cutey-Danielle, from Medillin. I pay my $50, grad a ber and head to the back. Following up on my earlier post, after Oasis I take care of some business, cruise the Veneto around 3:30. Quiet, a few girls hanging around looking bored. Cruised over to Habanos, it was dead. There are no places for working girls on the causeway, you will have to come into the city. Obviously there are clubs and bars with girls that are employees working there, but they are just regular girls.

Hey Pokergr,

The Veneto Hotel & Casino has its own poker room. Has games of NL Holdem and Omaha everynight starting around 7pm. Games run till the wee hours.

I've played in SDQ, CCS, SJO and CUR but everything about the games at the Veneto seemed a bit "sketchy" to me. Large oriental Chinese representation at both tables (reflective of the City as a whole) and guys were doing alot of gabbing back and forth in Mandarin and likely signaling.

I asked the room "boss" if he insists that only English and Spanish be spoken at the tables - he said that its sort of a rule but "what are you going to do?"

30-ish guy from Miami saw me watching the Omaha game for a few minutes and he remarked "you must be a good player, I see how intently your studying the flow of the game."

I told him "I'm not studying the flow of the game, I can tell the three Chinese guys on the end are signaling each other - I'm just trying to figure out exactly how they're doing it!" :rolleyes:

Only place I decided to pass on sitting down for a few hands - PTY.

I agree with Ford, the poker room is dominated by 2 local groups: the chinitos and the local ex-pat gringos and latinos, the room supervisor does not have the confidence or discipline to enforce "fair play" docterine, and he allows these locals to basically run the game as they see fit. I like to people watch and spent close to 2 hours observing these activities. The locals groups will to control 8 or nine of the 10 seats at the tables, and feast on the new blood. The chinese were shameless in their behavior and would laugh it off, or lay down the hand anytime they were called out, but it made for an unfortable table

The large Riande downtown has the Fiesta? Casino with an upstairs poker room, the tables were empty both times I passed by around 1p.m and 7 p.m. Friday, the boss said they have NL hold em, but it is really an after 9 pm crownd and the games can run through the morning.
