Players randomly scooping numbered ping pong balls from a bin with a long pole. The game appears very easy initially and then turns absolutely impossible as players get close to the jackpot. The apparent reason is because numbers on the balls are often not as they appear to the player.
The numbers on the balls are so small and widely spaced that the very quick glimpses of the ball that the dealer gives to the players can make the ball's number appear to be much different. The way the ball is rotated as it is displayed to the player can make the number appear far different than it is. For example, if a '12' ball is a beneficial number for the player to draw; the dealer will show 12 as the player begins working toward the jackpot. However, this doesn't mean the player is actually drawing a 12 ball. They may be drawing a 12 ball or any 'losing number ball' from 120 to 129' or a losing '112' ball. These 'losing' balls are rotated to appear as a '12' ball in the early stages, as they are quickly flashed by the dealer. Few players are going to question the dealer at this point, when they appear to be doing well'. This keeps the interest of the player and encourages them to invest more bets since the jackpot seems easily obtainable.
No winnings are paid until the jackpot is reached, but the sunk cost of bets as the player works toward the jackpot are lost. That is exactly what I tried to explain to my wing and travel partner. If you keep giving them money (without them earning it) , sooner or later they are going to see panhandling as an occupation. Sosua has enough adult panhandlers already. My wing still doesn't get it. He thinks giving kids money is helping, instead of encouraging dependence on handouts and failing to strive for more in life.
So what are poor kid going to do. There is no job or opportunity for poor children. That is why we are fucking their mothers and sisters. That shit is here to stay. It was just like Slumdog Millionaire but worse! Giving only makes you feel good about yourself. We were just some of the lucky ones who didn't have to be born into it or were lucky enough to be able to get out of it. But a peso here or a dollar there is not going to do a gd thing about the situation / circumstance / issue. As for me, I already have one child to support and I'm not trying to feed any that I didn't make. That is their parents' job. They didn't starve before I arrived on the scene and I doubt they will go hungry after I leave. I do take money to the orphanage a couple of times a year (to me that is different than a parent sending their kid out to get money or begging while carrying their kids), but I don't do handouts on the street.
When I took my mom and aunts to Thailand they wondered why the little kids were out begging and not in school. I started laughing and told them that we were not in the USA anymore. Eating was their first priority. Anything else had to go on the back burner.

Roberto was epileptic and he would hustle for shoe shine money in the morning to earn enough to pay for his medication and go to school on the afternoon shift. If he didn't get the seizure medication, he would have more seizures which could ultimately lead to further brain damage. It didn't seem likely that refusing to give him anything would teach him a lesson, on the other hand it was unlikely that making donations would make any significant improvement to his plight. I sometimes wonder what happened to him.

In any case he had lost $10, 500 when his friends arrived on the scene and managed to lose a further $4, 500 before he came to his senses, gave up, or listened to rational advice. This must have taken quite a while as he would have had to make several trips to the office to get his credit card issuers to authorize the payments.
Anyway, it is very sad that this happened, but it puts into perspective concerns about overpaying chicas for sex.
