Their job is to go to school, do their homework, and play with their friends. And when I see a kid with a wad of cash, in one moment, and then begging he's hungry the next. A large tin of Nan or Nido is about 800 pesos (20 dollars) in the Playero, (about 730 pesos in La Sirena) and lasts about a week.

Would we support a sharp increase, say double, in the tourist cards and departure taxes to support Dominican children with food and medicines and give them a bit more parity with first world children?

Asking Donde Padre probably won't really help, because the mother may have been abandoned by the father of the child, or he may be a married man or a deadbeat, or may have several children and little income. If it was as simple as calling him on his cell phone for money, she would probably have done that already.

What he is addressing is an entirely differnt issue where the chica is most likely lying about her children being sick or needing medicine right in that moment. Thats two different issues. And I'm relatively certain he was talking about chicas lying in general, and only used thew baby sick as one example. Because it is quite commonly used by many chicas.

That is on the lines of what I said earlier about the bad position or slight disadvantage mongers are in dealing with these chicas. Of course a significant advantage they have is with the corruption with law enforcement, and the general dominican support system in place.
