Haven't looked too much at Malio but prefer the spa. Only have 2 days tho and still want to do normal tourist stuff. The flight had got canceleed and I had to go to surabaya next day to bali. But this trip I am only visiting medan, Jakarta then bali and home.

From reading the forum and elsewhere about Ramadan (March 22 to April 21), it seems like many massage places will close (I've heard roughly 35%) but most will still be open, especially those located in hotels. But those that are open will probably have fewer girls working, so less choice. Demand might be down a little, but perhaps not down as much as the supply. So, overall, it's not the ideal time to be there, but the trip might not be a disaster. Is that about right?

I'm not sure whether it will be more difficult to work tinder, etc. During Ramadan.

Bali is generally far worse for mongering, but I wonder if is "less worse" during Ramadan, as fewer of the girls there are Muslim. But that logic might not apply if most of the working girls in Bali aren't from Bali.

There is a mass migration back home for Ramadan and especially for the end of fasting, Idul Fitri. Also, it's expected for well to do city girls to arrive with gifts. It's not as bad a Chinese New Year but it involves a lot of people.

This all needs to be funded. Hence, economic activity, that we all enjoy, actually becomes more widespread in the period leading up to Ramadan. Expect working girls to be keen to attract customers and even girls that wouldn't normally be in the game to be open to offers of 'help'.

A work of caution that these also applies to police so exercise caution as efforts to raise fines rise.

As for other areas, yes those popular with domestic tourist become totally over run. Jogjakarta, for example, totally sucks at this time. You may find more groups of female workmates at Bali, but I wouldn't travel there just for the chance.

In summary, if it's you first time coming, I'd try to reschedule or at least arrive at the beginning. If you're locked into that period, then just make the most of it as it won't be a total wash. Enoy. G.

Then there's the two week celebration of idul firtri when the girls are back with their parents in the desa.

You can find action, but I can't help with any good advice. I know the young guy at the front desk of my two star hotel understood what I was looking for and hooked me up. I gave him 150 k idr for his trouble and he was eager to help me with another the next night. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the same young lady. Not bad, but I was looking for variety.

I've done this recently both in Jakarta and Bali, no issues with hotel, anywhere between 4-5 star ones.

In Bali resort they even ask if I have a friend during check in, since this is inclusive one (with bfast and club access) I had to say yes, and they ask for my lady friend's ID, no issue.

Also I wouldn't worry if you go to big spa, karaoke etc either. The police get's their cut from establishment.

For what's it worth, the new law basically will be enforced if your lady friend's husbands, BF, relatives etc report your involvement to the police; maybe good idea to date single women only.

I used to enjoy visiting the bars in Blok M on Jl. Falatehan some 10-20 years ago. Hearing that it was now a shadow of its former self, I thought I'd check it out this past weekend anyway. Indeed, it's a pretty sad state of affairs. The old D's Place and My Bar next door were the only bars open. There were about 8 old dudes in D's Place. There was no music, but when a friend I came in and ordered a beer, the music started and four dancing girls came out. It was very far from its former glory.

Any suggestions for bars that best resemble those from the old Blok M days? Even if there's not a plethora of working girls, just something a little sleazy, a place with some freelancers and the opportunity for a beer and chat with the option of taking some company home. I'm kinda feeling done with KI, Classic, railway tracks etc. It just seems there's so few alternatives nowadays. Eastern Promise is okay, but would prefer something where I'm less likely to bump into work colleagues.
