it supposedly is near parque central...here is a wiki map of that area--if you know the specific location, please turn us on to it or post it on the map:

and does anyone know about the availability of taxis in that area for a return to the bridge?.-is there any reason to think that the club wouldn't be able or willing to get us a taxi back? what about fares?

I was taken aside by a squad of quasi-paramilitary cops riding in the back of a pickup recently. It was a very busy night for foot-traffic & one of them began walking alongside me & speaking to me & 3-4 more followed suit...I got the impression that their m.o. was to:

1. ask for my ID,
2. ask if I had been drinking,
2. ask if I had drugs on me,
3. to search my pockets

My ID was concealed on my person & so, I had to reveal that I had at least that much on my person than was not in my pockets. You might have thought that would've triggered a more intense search, but it didn't...They were curious WHY I had concealed my ID & also curious re the small amount of Spanish that I was able to speak, but they seemed satisfied with my explanations of concerns re muggers & that I had learned Spanish in "escuela" in a particular nearby U.S. state. They did not seem at all curious re the fact that one of the few items in my pockets was a condom.

One thing to consider is perhaps that you shouldn't carry any more cash IN YOUR POCKETS than you care to lose to the occasional dishonest cop or to a pickpocket or mugger--I did not notice any cash missing, but I purposefully didn't have much cash in my pockets to begin with...

I was not carrying contraband, nor was I drunk, high, nor even rude & was allowed to go on my way after a few minutes. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread, they DID seem fairly sensitive re their rep as thiefs & the one who was the most aggressive & sarcastic seemed to make a point to gladhand me as I was walking away.

For me, I was much more disturbed by my treatment coming back over recently by a particular U.S. border officer who didn't like the looks of my ID & did a computer search on me in a breathless huddle with another officer.

I'd also urge anyone to think twice about standing there & nodding while they rattle away in Spanish--if you don't understand wtf they're saying, then don't be shy about saying "no comprende! ", even if you have to say it repeatedly.

Club 69 is about one mile south of Parque Central on Calle Panamericana. A taxi from downtown Juarez will run you a minimum of 100 pesos. You can be dropped off at the club or at the S Mart about half a mile up the road.

It is a strip club, the drinks run you about 35 pesos and ladies drinks 100 pesos. The ladies are available for takeout or they have a private room for privados where you can also do the deed. Prices for the ladies depend on your negotiating skills but their asking price seems to be around 150 to 200 dollars. I was there over Thanksgiving weekend, there was around 10 ladies and a couple of them were great looking. I did not partake as I feel paying over 100 bucks for sex is way too much.

While you are in the area you might want to go to club Cabaret about 3 miles northwest of Club 69. Head north from Club 69 and turn left on the street that takes you to the Central Camionera. Cabaret will be on your left hand side a little ways before you get to the entrance into the Central Camionera.

Cabaret is a strip club and an after hours club. There was about 9 girls dancing, all available for play with the same pricing as Club 69. Cabaret stays open after all the other clubs close and most of the girls from the other clubs end up here. You might get a better deal here from girls from Club 69 as there will be no bar fine.

I went down to El Paso for Thanksgiving weekend and I must say things are not looking good in Juarez. I went into all the remaining clubs in the zona and this is what I found:

Queens: I went in around 9 and the place was dead. There were no girls the music wasnt even playing, this place was a total waste of time.

Hollywood: By far the best club downtown. There was about twenty girls in the place if you can deal with the cholo element and the pushy waiters its not a bad place. They had a good range of girls from spinners to gorditas but there was not a single stunner in the joint.

Las Vegas: There was three girls in the place and about four waiters. I walked in and walked out, there was nothing worth staying for in this place.

Ano Nuevo: Two girls working, both were pleasantly plump.

Eduardos: There was five girls available but the constant pressure from the waiters to buy another drink and the girls constant requests for ladies drinks make me hate this bar.

Alice and Charlies: I like going into this bar as the waiters leave you alone and the girls won't go over unless you call them over. There was six girls working and out of the six there was only one that was cute. I called her over her name was Brigette or something like that, she is from Juarez we talked for a bit and I asked about the cuarto and she quoted me 150 dollars for 30 minutes. I tried talking her down but she would not budge kept saying 150 for 30 minutes or 300 for an hour. I was shocked as this girl was cute and not a stunner. I sent her packing and called over another girl. Her name was Noami and she asked for 200 for one hour. I laughed, finished my drink and headed back to El Paso.

I had not been to Juarez in over six months and I probably won't be back anytime soon. The downtown area is totally depressing nothing like what it was a couple of years ago. On a positive note the tacos de buche are still as good as ever.

When stopped by the police in Cd. Juarez, tell them that you work for and at the U. S. Consulate on Ave. Lopez Mateos. Whatever job function is fine. You don't need a business card, it's not a sales job. If you deliver this statement with confidence they'll run away fast or ask questions no how they can get a U. S. Visa. Tell them the filing fee is US $100 and the appropriate paperwork (bank statements, id, reason for visit, etcetera) are needed, but you don't process the paperwork.

They will never ask for references or any other proof and will never take anything from you. They will be scared of "getting fired" due to violating an "officials" liberties.

To make these guys even more defensive carry a pen and paper and when approached by the police start writing down their identification.

The above worked for me for years! And was suggested by my friends at the aduana mexicana (Mexican Customs) as an effective technique.

So, the game tomorrow night is apparently only gonna be broadcast on satellite. Anybody got any suggestions on where to catch it--what are the best EP or CJ strip clubs for sports viewing?.-or the Juarez sports book?.-anything else?

How many times have you actually done what your post says during your mongering career? Whereas most of these "cops" are not very intelligent, I fear that with my luck, I would run into one who would ask for some kind of work ID and/or know the right questions to ask. Seems to me if they realized one was not telling the truth about this, one could get in big trouble.

Juarez for years taught me that the mentality of the city is one of "Gringo Envy: " I'm mad 'cause I can't enter the USA; I'm mad 'cause I got deported for drugs or gun crimes; I'm mad 'cause they make more money than I do; I'm mad is the mentality more or less. Therefore, let's chase them back across the border. After all, Mexico was robbed of the USA during that war in the 1850s.

Anyway, I've done that numerous times with the US Consulate statement. It's not a crime to lie. And none of the employees at the consulate speak Spanish. They're all 100% Gringos.

Another technique is to proudly state that you live in Cd. Juarez! Use the neighborhoods of Cordova Americas, Hildalgo, or Pronaf. If they ask for your address or id, tell them you move-in next week. They'll let you go, after asking why do you live here? Ask the cops where they live and speak a little about their neighborhood. Learn your bus routes for the above: 8A, 8B.

Another technique is to say your fiance lives in Cd. Juarez. She has 2 or 3 kids that you're helping her support. No she's not a "pro, " but a real woman from a country town like Porral, Chihuahua, or Torreon. Knowing your Mexican towns will have the police giving you respect and wondering who you are.

The police are looking to get people who are scared of Mexico, but if you exhibit that this is your home too, they back off.

All of the same techniques as the USA when in a foreign neighborhood where you stand out as not being a local resident.

I said I would report back in exchange for information so here goes...

I walked across the border around 4 PM, before dark. I managed to get through the phanlx of taxi drivers along Juarez. I kept on going and only after about 10 blocks checked my map. I managed to find Amazona. I went in to see what was up. There 4 ladies that met me, and these were older and not so beautiful ladies. The deal was $40 for one hour massage and sex. I declined politely and so headed out. I saw a wall that said Edwardo's and Hollywood, but it was just the facade as the rest of the building was ruble.

I only have experience with J-town.
