As you can see hotels in Manila go from $400 - $500 / night down to whatever you want to pay. I mean this is the nicest way but who are you trying to impress, you or her? Honestly if she likes you the hotel will not be that important to her as long as it is comfortable - clean, quiet & safe.
Remember these girls lead extremely simple lives. A $60 a night hotel will be a palace compared to her living conditions. Staying in a $500 / night room may be sending the wrong signals to her...

From the research I have done a room at the Shrangri-La can be had for just over usd 200 but the cost doesn't matter. Is this the best place to be for a romantic stay? There or somewhere else?

Try the Renaissance Makati. The Shangri-la is a fucking rip off. I still miss the Renaissance from time to time the service was superb. But hey if you never stayed there I would give it spin for GP (General Purpose).

Romance does not spring from big spending.
I had a candle lit dinner on a beach on Borcay with a girl.
The resort was Lorenzo south, not an expensive place but boy did that dinner go down well with the lady!
You seem to have your mind set on the Shangri-La makati, so be it. How about arrange for a special candle lit dinner with your paramour or something?
Read up some books on what women like & find romantic.
The size of your hotel bill ain't it.

Also try Dusit as refurbished recently not bad, nice suites. Can get deluxe rooms for around 5000-6000 pesos and suites 8000-9000 pesos.

I just booked 5 nights at the Renaissance for 150 usd a night. The Dusit was 200 usd. Both had great reviews.

I will read the forum later but does anyone have any recommendations for restaurants and clubs? Any must-do places? Thanks all.

The Renaissance is very nice and lady friendly. they do check her ID when you come in late at night or early morning. Been there 6 times and never have a problem. Last time was 2 years ago. Then the room were 120 for club room access or a long stay which is more that 7 days.

I just booked an april trip there - for 155. Very convenient location to Greenbelt and glorietta. Just walk across the street.

Tight Sercurity (This is the Philippines) but dude the Rens is the shit. Too bad I now own a home about 20 mins away :( Right across the street is the Greenbelt mall which at night houses a couple of night clubs with real filipina eye candy.

The mall also houses a kind of patio area which is littered with hundreds of the middle class filipino folk and tourist looking for a good time at night right in front of a Star Bucks.

Down the street is the Glorietta mall about a 10 min walk. You are a hop skip and jump from the red light area of Makati. I stayed in a hotel around there for one night Oxford Suites and to say for me it was not up to snuff is an understatement.

Restaurants? Does a bear shit in the woods and wipe his ass with a fluffy white rabbit? What do you like to eat? The hotel food at the Rens is top of line but expensive. New Years day I went to a lunch event there that was $100 a plate. The Greenbelt has everything bruh. Chow King, Shakeys etc...

One Last Thing...Me and my personal (non WG) China Doll a Japanese raised Filipina returned one night at the Rens from drinking and partying and was badgered by sercurity about me registering my "guest". When I fired back that she is not a nightly pick up and is on the guest list the guy back off. Other then that I enjoyed my stay.

During that time, I have read more negative posts regarding the Renaissance then every other other Manila or Makati hotel combined. Several posters hate this hotel with a passion. There must be a reason for it, so it probably is a hotel that should be avoided.

I know after about 10 pmthe clubs at Greenbelt are active.

Anybody know if during the early afternoon if the plaza there by Starbucks is a good place to hang and find ay action?

What about in Glorietta ? Anyplace there for afternoon trolling? I saw some reviews about Harrison Mall is a busy.

Appreciate the advice.

Sod all action today, all the malls closed, nice thing is less traffic but less pussy walking about. So off to Burgos after meeting some DIA girls....assuming that they dont play :)

Greenbelt is very active, Starbucks had some nice attempts and 1-2 successes in the past, but in the afternoon these would generally be non WGs, while at night some are

Great great great hotel. I had a 5 year association with the hotel until a few years back and would stay there almost every week. Great people. I've actually hardly read anything bad about it. Ok like all Makati hotels the room could more than do with a redo. But thats about it. And thats common to all the hotels there. Renaissance will do the trick for you. Less snooty than the Mandarin. More practical than Pen, Intercon way way way older. And Dusit is prone to labour strikes.
