Pattaya Reports

Just a little reminder:

One question I puzzled over before my trip was the question of budget. I'm retired, I'm 60 years old, and want to make a number of trips over the next decade. The only way I'll be able to stretch the money I've saved for such follies is to set a budget each trip and try to stick to it. For this trip I set aside a budget of $6,000 Canadian. For the purposes of comparison, that would be roughly $6,200 in Australian dollars, about $4,700 in US dollars and around 3,200 in British pounds.

About $1,000 Canadian (17%) went to airfare to get me there and back. While I was there, I either walked or took the Baht bus for the most part. For accommodation I budgeted another $1,000 Canadian, which worked out to just over 900 Baht a day. For day-to-day necessities like food (bought mostly from street vendors) and other odds and sods (like smokes, beer for the room, proper massages, hair cuts, shaves, additional condoms, Kamagara, etc.), I set aside another $1,000 Canadian, which worked out to another 900 Baht a day. I deliberately set aside nothing for excursions: I had toured about Thailand two years ago: the focus of this trip was girls and I didn't intend to fritter my money away on things unrelated to the purpose. This left me roughly $3,000 Canadian, or half of my budget, to be spent on chasing girls and activities related to getting them into bed. This worked out to about 2,700 Baht a day. Converted back to Canadian dollars, this was roughly equivalent to spending $110 Canadian a day.

That was the plan. How did it work out in practice? Well I went a touch over budget on travel ($100 more than planned) but I spent only about $800 on accommodation ($200 less than planned) and I spent a similar amount on odds and sods (hence another $200 less than planned). That said, I ended up spending $6,200 in total, which meant two things. First, it meant that I ended up slightly over budget by $200 Canadian. Second, it meant that instead of spending $3,000 on women and the related costs of chasing them (drinking with them, buying them drinks, paying bar fines, entertaining them, etc.), I actually ended up spending $3,500 on those activities. Of that I was glad.

Over my 28 days in Pattaya, this worked out to an average of over 3,000 Baht a day, or about $125 Canadian per day of girl-related spending. How did I actually spend that money? This is something that I found interesting and that others might find interesting too. I ended up being with 25 different women ranging in age from their early twenties to their lower forties, with the average age probably being somewhere in the high twenties or low thirties. In terms of looks, everyone's "eye" is different, but to my eye, they ranged from a few in the high 8's down to a few in the middle of the 6 range, with the average being, I would guess, closer to 8 than 7. I mention this to make the point that, in terms of looks, I wasn't a bottom feeder. I kept quite detailed records of what I paid to those women and upon review of my spending, I was surprised to learn that less than $1,000 Canadian in total left my pocket in terms of payments that I made directly to these women and, where applicable, the related bar fines. Spread over the 25 different women I was with in my 28 days in Pattaya, this worked out to about $40 Canadian per new woman. Spread over the 53 fucks I had with these women, it cost me a shade under $19 Canadian per fuck.

Interesting: transportation didn't burn a lot of money, accommodation was cheap by ny measure, the odds and sods of daily living didn't cost me a lot, and the money I paid more or less directly to the women I fucked was ridiculously low when you really looked at it, producing a cost per fuck about which no sensible man could possibly complain.

So if I spent $3,500 Canadian chasing and bedding women but paid those women directly less than $1,000 Canadian, where did the remaining $2,500 Canadian go? By the way, I was quite surprised by how high this "indirect cost" figure was. The inescapable answer is that it went into the pockets of the owners of sundry bars, discos and the occasional restaurant. It went into buying drinks and such for myself and others. In retrospect, I'd say that about 60% of that money was well spent, or about $1,500 Canadian. I don't begrudge most of the money I spent on drinks for me and others in discos or at the beach, nor do I begrudge the money spent buying copious lady drinks for my Laotian friend on Day 19 for example. You have to be prepared to spend money, especially for others, because it acts as a "social lubricant".

I feel that the remaining $1,000 Canadian, however, could have been spent more wisely. In retrospect, I regret wasting that money on things like going to a sex show (which I did once) or going to watch girls dance at Go Go bars, or buying booze at beer bars where, deep down, I knew that either I had no real interest in the girls in the bar and / or they had no real interest in me. I blew through far too much money in that way.

Here's the thing about spending money in beer bars. The drinks seem cheap and, looked at one at a time, they are cheap, but buying drinks in those bars is a lot like fishing where, rod in hand, you cast and cast and cast your line and, from time to time, you catch something. The true cost of that catch is not measured by the single successful cast but by all the the time spent casting and casting and casting without success. I don't drink to get drunk, but that draft beer for 65 Baht, plus drinks for the lady and her coterie of friends can, over the course of a few hours, quickly morph into a lot of money spent to little effect, all in the name of being a "nice guy". In my experience, that's how it is with visits to beer bars: I spent a lot of time (and money) casting about and, while I will got some notable strikes, more often the only thing I came away with was a hole in my pocket. As I look back on it now, that money could have been used to much better effect. Now I went to Pattaya to learn, and I had to make these mistakes in order to learn from them. When I return to Pattaya, I won't spend less. I will just spend it differently.

Why have I bothered to provide such a detailed accounting? First, this kind of awareness will help me better direct my own spending the next time I go on such a junket. Second, it may help others budget and spend their money to better effect.

But I couldn't help wondering if you weren't over doing it by gunning for those numbers. I mean they were stellar! (You are the Wilt Chamberlain of this board for sure) But in going for numbers I think you may have sacrificed quality for quantity.

I plan to spend just a little more than you for my month long trip in August (granted I am still a working stiff). But I don't anticipate that I will end up with a girl EVERY night. In fact I will probably skip every third night or so and maybe sometimes just get a quickie with a chick form BR for 1 K or less.

This will give me more money to spend the nights I do go out looking for a stellar girl. Also it give me more time and energy to focus on finding the right one (or ones LOL).

I had a specific objective on this trip, and it did involve racking up numbers. I did have three "dry" days (2, 7 and 11) although these were not by choice. If I could have, I would have, but as in baseball, sometimes you go "0 for". When I was in Thailand two years ago and the Philippines last year, I was more into the girlfriend experience (and two girls from the Philippines sent me birthday wishes this past year), and so I had lower numbers on those trips by design. By the end of this trip, I'd also settled into the girlfriend experience with Nit (who was in her early forties), but I could have done so with equal ease with two others (one in her mid-twenties and one in her early thirties), both of whom showed interest, and both of whom seemed to be genuinely warm personalities. I remain in touch with all three using Line.

As for quality, I am not sure I sacrificed all that much. What I did learn, in racking up the numbers, is that there is no real correlation between a girl's looks and her bed manner, nor is there any real correlation between what you pay and her performance in bed. The only real correlation I found was related to age: the older the women, the more you could count on a good performance in bed. On this trip I had girls in their twenties (I'd say that about 10 of the 25 I had were in their twenties), about half of whom performed well and half whom didn't. I had girls in their thirties (and I'd say that about 10 of the 25 were in their thirties), most of whom performed well. The rest were women in their early forties, all of whom performed exceptionally well.

It would, of course, be great to find a women in her twenties who looks like Venus herself, who's a vixen in the sack, who gives a home town discount because she likes being with you, who also sports the type of genuinely warm personality that one looks for to complete the girlfriend experience. I didn't hit that kind of home run this time. I'm not sure that many people do. I did, however, acquire experience that will likely bring me closer to that mark the next time.

I also learned that you have to be careful about judging things from outward appearances. I had more than a few stellar looking women on my arm who were lousy in bed. The hot-looking long-legged twenty-something bar girl in six inch heels and a tight white dress from Day 5 was the poster child for that experience. Walking back to the room with her, I must have been the envy of every man I passed. Once in the room, she was so lousy in the sack that I gave her 300 Baht to leave. Twenty-something Pung from Day 21 was another example of a girl who was very attractive to look at, and certain to elicit envy from other men, but a great disappointment in the sack. Pha from Day 19 who was in her early twenties, was another very good looking girl who proved to be a disappointment. These girls were all solid 8's, and I'm not generally an easy marker.

I like youth, good looks and discounted prices as much as anyone. Who doesn't? But on the matter of quality when it comes to sex rather that outward appearances, I reserve judgement until I see whether there are sparks in the sack combined with a personality that would motivate me to invite a women to stay.

Let me close by again thanking you and others for comment, kind words and suggestions. Let me also wish you good luck in August. I was in Thailand two years ago in the month of September. It rained on me two out of every three days. Be sure to bring both types of raincoat, if you catch my drift.

There is no correlation with money, only age. Thai gals seem to really acquire skills in their late 20's. Before that they are kind of well, meh for the most part. Of course this is a generalization. The age will vary from country to country based on upbringing, culture and religion for example.

Does the same thing happen to you?[/QUOTE]Interesting question. The answer is not straightforward. There are a number of reasons why men flock to Pattaya like swallows returning to Capistrano. Let me cite a few of them, and then let me take a stab at what I believe to be the key one.

First, there are many women in Pattaya who are willing to make themselves easily available to men at a price. There are probably more such women per square kilometer in Pattaya than anywhere else on earth. This eye-popping abundance far exceeds what many men would likely find in their home countries. That said, Pattaya is not the only place on earth with a humming sex industry. There are other places we could go, yet we flock to Pattaya.

Second, the price that women charge in Pattaya is lower than what many men would pay in their home countries. That said, there are other places in this world that men could go to find sex at similar prices and there are certainly places one could go (like parts of Africa) to get even cheaper sex, yet we flock to Pattaya.

So why do men from Europe, North America, Australia, Russia, the Middle East and India flock to Pattaya when they could flock elsewhere? I think the reason has to do with the fact that Pattaya offers us Asian women and, in particular, Asian women of a particular build (typically slim), a particular facial structure (typically with high cheek bones, sparkling limpid eyes and a world famous capacity to smile), and a cultural mindset that allows those women to live, relatively guilt-free, with the fact that they make their living by offering of sex to foreign men. I think that it is this last combination of factors that sets Thailand in general, and Pattaya in particular, apart.

If a man just wanted available and affordable women, there are many places a man could go, but Pattaya is the Mecca and the Medina if (like me and probably other members of this forum) you like Asian women and you enjoy finding yourself awash in a sea of beautiful, smiling, uninhibited Thai women. In Pattaya, if you find yourself on any given Soi and you walk past a beautiful woman, you don't have to stop and look back longingly. On some Soi, all you have to do is walk another 20 yards. On some, you only have to walk another 10 yards. In some places, like Walking Street, you don't have to walk, or even swivel your head. Stand still and the stunners will flow around you in both directions.

This leads to being jaded in the face of such abundance and the inverse of "buyer's regret" upon returning home.

Interestingly, in my case, I felt the inverse of "buyer's regret" upon returning home more strongly on my first month-long trip to Thailand (where I enjoyed the company of 10 new women and about 30 or so fucks in total) and my subsequent month-long trip to the Philippines (where I enjoyed the company of 5 new women and about 20 fucks in total). On those trips, I left with regrets and later felt the remorse you have described: what I have called the inverse of "buyer's regret".

On this trip, because I was explicitly aiming for high "new fuck" totals (and came close to achieving my targets: I had wanted in excess of 30 new women and hit 25), I don't feel the same sort of remorse because while I walked by a ton of beautiful women whose company I would have thoroughly enjoyed I'm sure, there's a practical limit to the number of women that a man of any vintage, 60 or otherwise, could actually enjoy. I don't have the inverse of "buyer's regret" because on this trip I really was near the practical limit of my capacity to add new notches.

One last observation: on this trip I figure that I spent about $1,000 Canadian less wisely than I should have. If I had spent it more wisely, I could have bucked up my notch count, but the real limiting factor was not money. The real limiting factor was a combination of the available hours in the day and, to my surprise, my diminishing appetite for yet more new pussy. I had a choice to make in my last four days in Pattaya. I could either ditch Nit, who had become my de facto girlfriend, and accelerate my drive for more notches, or I could abandon the drive for more notches and settle for Nit and a series of awesome fucks with her. I choose the latter. I didn't have to, but I did. In that sense, I got the best of both worlds and left with few regrets.

I envy you those experiences.

I have to agree with most of what you wrote in your second paragraph: the lack of skill on the part of the younger set was a bit of a disappointment, and you're quite right about them clamming up when you ask them what pleases them. You're also right that, with age comes more confidence, at which point some of them do open up. If they've been at it for a while, their language skills also tend to be better. If they have come late to the game (perhaps because their Thai husband has left them with kids to care for and no means of support) then they also bring a certain ballast from the school of hard knocks which can sometimes make for a more interesting person to talk with.

I think we falang owe a debt of gratitude to the many Thai men who do their best to make even the worst of us falang look good in comparison to them. While I'm at it, I'd also like to thank all those tall Thai guys who, instead of becoming tall, strong Thai guys who might have provided competition to us, chose instead to become ladyboys. Hoever they came to make that choice, it has had the effect of reducing the competition for us, leaving Thai girls to choose between us falang and deadbeat Thai heterosexual males who, in all likelihood, can be counted upon at some point to leave them in the lurch. As a general rule, we don't leave them in the lurch. From us, they know what they're getting: our most compelling feature is that we leave them with money in their purses, providing them with options that they would not otherwise have. That is the real reason why Thai women lock to Pattaya like swallows to Capistrano.

First, if you are thinking that you will get a Thai girl to go with you to Coral Island and lie next to you, looking oh so smoking hot in her skimpy bikini, think again. You can get Thai girls to go to the beach, but be prepared for the fact that they will cover themselves up as much as possible to protect themselves from the sun. You know all those bathing suits that you see for sale in Pattaya, well they are sold to tourists. I personally bought one the day I checked into Chaba Hut which had a really nice pool. Paid 250 Baht against the original asking price of 400 Baht. I thought I had a bargain. I imagined (wrongly) that I would be able to persuade at least one of the girls I banged to join me by the pool. I eventually gave the bikini away to a girl who said she might use it. I will post a picture of my "girlfriend" on Coral Island, all wrapped up. You'll see what I mean.

Second, be sure to make the Coral Island thing a day trip only. At night, Coral Island is dead to the world. The only thing you can do at night on Coral Island is drink beer from the 7-11 and watch the lights of Pattaya twinkle in the distance, sending the message to you that you are not where you ought to be: you are 7. 5 km away from there and once the last ferry has left, your options for fixing your mistake are both limited and expensive. I know this from experience. I made that mistake.

Third, if you find yourself going to Coral Island without a girl, don't despair. There are sure to be girls on the ferry. On my second trip there, on Day 23, I met two such girls. I'll try to post pictures of them. Unfortunately they spoke almost no English so I didn't pursue them as hard as I should have! There are sure to be girls on the beach: there are Chinese and Japanese girls there by the boatload. I mean that literally: they arrive by the boatload. They love to take pictures of themselves and they love it even more when a white guy offers to take pictures of them. Then they invariably want a picture taken of you together with the. Opportunities abound (although the language barrier can be significant). Just be bold. Find a girl or a couple of girls and go strike up a conversation. Most of those conversations will lead nowhere, but you only need one for there to be a spark. There are sometimes even some girls in the water. I know this seems to contradict my first point, but it can happen. My first day there, while my "girlfriend" sat on the beach "shading" herself, I had one start playing with me and my member in the water, and when she learned that I was booked for two nights, she wanted to know if she could stay with me. She asked that question within five minutes of having first met me.
