The local wealth is crucial to keep the terma's and mongering infrastructure in general, moreover when the local currency is as strong as actually.

Wether the local currency fall down, foreigners should be support the whole business as it was in the past (70% gringos with 30% locals in tier 1).

Besides, during last years I observe a tendency's changing from terma's culture to the internet girls and private parties at motels and residences (local young guys).

It's difficult to see many rich / famous Brazilian guys (CEO's, journalists, football players, singers, like I used to see and chat 15/20 years ago) in the termas, they take other safest / private options.

The main risk in my personal opinion is that terma's culture (understand as an old carioca's value) is decreasing because new generations like other kind of things.

If Brazil was cheaper like back in the days, Gringos will pick up the slack. Locals can't afford to spend money on bunda in termas since Brazil is in a recession, and a Influx of Gringos would fill the void!.

However, there are other factors.

For one, the city closed Help Disco a few years ago. The city of Rio has also been very successful in diminishing the action along Copacabana beach. Back in the late 90's / early 2000's, Brazilian couples and families would avoid staying anywhere near Posto 5. The whole area was a spectacle particularly at night. The economy during this period was bad until it took off in the 2000's. It was not unusual back then to meet fairly educated girls from all over Brazil freelancing in Copacabana for short periods of time and then heading back to their cities.

Currency, which directly feeds the prices for tourists, is a very important factor to this whole discussion. While recent levels of 3+ to 1 seem to be better than just a few years ago, the ridiculous price inflation of the Tier 1 termas suggests to me cartel pricing. They no longer have the intense competition from the sex scene on Copacabana. There is also the discussed crazy phenomenon that when demand falls off the termas raise their prices. Regardless of how you argue about currency plus prices, I was paying less than a US $100 to pull girls from 4 x4, Monte Carlo and yes Centaurus at various times in the late 90's / early 2000's. My opinion is the Brazilian currency is still overvalued relative to the local price of almost everything.

Dr. Clitoris makes an interesting point about younger Cariocas having different preferences and they might prefer different sex venues over the termas scene. I would be careful to not overemphasize this point. I can't see how a group of Brazilian buddies would not enjoy hanging out at the Centro termas whether they pulled a program or just drank and played grab-ass with the girls. Again, it seems like local prices have doubled in just over ten years and there hasn't been a commensurate rise of money in the locals' pockets.

If reiais will be better the price will be more expensive since reais became cheap terma price went up. Many girls leave terma (no work no money most live far from the terma) because there are not enough clients going to the room everyday. Many guys go to the terma only to spend time and drinks with their buddies. The prives are not as expensive as termas, their price has been remaining stable for many years. The termas will never change price until other termas open even if there will be a new help although new help is shitty and people stopped talking about this business, terma price will never change because terma and help are two different kinds of business. So that the price changes, more new termas must open, more competition. Termas are empty not because of crisis but because there are less termas and less competition so the termas can rise the price as the fancy takes them because nobody can compete with them. Because of that less people are interested in picking girls in terma except few tourists, most people just go there to have a drink, watch and laugh especially brazilians, only the entrance price has remained stable for many years. Now many girls prefer to work for cheaper because they make money for sure so they stay in their area and work in the prives or some small bars in their area. Rio is a big city there are many prives and clubs that are not as famous as places that are not touristy like barra, copa and centro. And known only by people living in the neighborhood but it is impossible to know every place in rio, people only hear copacabana and centro.
