Guys, now I have seen it all. A monger travels around the Philippines wanting girls to fall in love with him and not wanting to fuck hookers. If a girl agrees to meet a foreign guy for no strings short-term compensated sex over two weeks, that makes her a hooker. Good girls do not meet strangers in hotels for hard fucks with no commitment or long-term relationship, but prostitutes do.

Perhaps, there is a niche for old mongers who want to live out their missed teenage years. The girls can offer ultimate girlfriend experience where they pretend to not have been fucked too much. They will "fall in love" with the monger and tell him that he is more handsome than their 21 year-old stud Pinoy boyfriend. All compensation will be collected by a third party so the monger can feel like he is not paying a prostitute. LOL!

Maybe, this type of monger is the reason the old Western Angeles City bars offered "cherry girls" and "permanent bar fine". Some fellas just cannot get a boner unless they believe that they are seducing some innocent provincial farm girl.

I feel a mix of sympathy and exasperation reading these stories. Yeah, the scammers (often the whole family) are predatory and ruthless, exploiting lonely guys (older ones more prone) who just want companionship in retirement. Losing everything like that is brutal—no one deserves it. But man. With the internet full of identical warnings for a decade in multiple forums. It's hard not to think, at some point, due diligence has to kick in. Putting your entire life savings into property titled solely in her name, in a country where foreigners can't own land? That's not just love blinding you—that's ignoring every red flag. Still, I do feel sorry for them. Loneliness is a hell of a drug, and these predators know exactly how to weaponize it. Sad that I keep hearing / reading these stories more and more.

The guys we've been discussing can't see which category they are going to join.

Your comment about a well worn path to disaster applies equally to the successful ones as well. They both have glaring neon signs as indicators and no one is surprised when they succeed or fail.

About 8 years ago I had an attempted scam on me. First she was pregnant and then had complications and was hospitalized. Constant request for money.

I asked for proof and she got abusive about not trusting her. This is where I go silent. Then in a day she again angrily ask for help. I reminded her to go to local lab for blood draw pregnancy test. Again she angrily accused me of calling her a liar.

A few days later she says she in a province because of hiding the family shame and doesn't know where a lab is. I stay silent. A week later says she is in hospital and needs money for the hospital. I say send me admission papers. Finally she makes a fake hospital admission slip with a fake hospital name pasted on it. I laugh to myself as I see the Angeles zip code of 2009 on it.

Then constant nagging requests for money guilt me about not caring about her and the baby.

A month later tells me the baby died and need money for the hospital and funeral. I tell her I don't believe you and good bye.

Hard to get scammed if you vet out the information and use common sense.

Other than that one they have been mostly sweethearts.

Land grabs from rotten filipinas (or their families) are the exception, not the rule. However, all the nice expats that I know here who have purchased such land in her name, are at her mercy. Rose colored glasses or not, the situation is always precarious.

The one I'm renting now imitates the western standards, but was built by monkeys. The only thing holding me back is the frightening thought of settling down.

However if I do it I have a plan: buy it in my GF's name, but lease it from her for 20 years, and have a good lawyer involved to navigate the feudal PH laws, therefore no possible surprises if the "good is not good" anymore.

That might be due to selection bias. Most people tend not to share their failures publicly, while they're happy to gloat about their successes. So the stories we hear in person are often the positive ones, while the horror stories surface more online (where anonymity makes it easier to open up).

My point is why buy the property in someone else's name who is just a girl friend, whereas I fully agree if you marry her then buying under her name make sense. I would rather invest that money in some high yielding dividend stocks and use it to pay off your rent using the dividend.

I didn't feed them, they helped themselves from my garbage bags in the far corner of the yard, but for some unknown reason they think that I'm their master, or something along that line. The dogs are barking at everybody passing by on the beach "protecting" me, and they started to bring me shoes from the neighbors, today I even got somebody's door mat.

Tonight I sprayed all the furniture with bug spray, and I think they don't like the smell, because I just checked and there is no dog on my patio.

Tomorrow I'm buying 5 more cans of cheap bug spray.

You might find this link useful. I don't like all this humane stuff, like they object to some smell or other (they lick each other's arses ffs). My probme is mice under wooden floorboards and coming in through the garage, as I'll soon be back in Angeles. I have found sirens and smells useless and I have found the old reliable mouse trap the best.

I have a pole of rat poison and there are neghbours with dogs I don't like.

I did make my own bone meal and gave it to neghbours for fertiliser. Dogs immediately went for it.

Secure your garbage in a bin and drown the place in white vinegar. You could always divert them elsewhere, perhaps to some widow who won't 3 sum with you.
