A timely warning. Malones was not the only bar checked. Cops also checked passports in bars all along Nanyang Lu including Big Bamboo, Manhattan, Blue Sky Bar etc.

One or two (who got lippy) in Big Bamboo were hit with fines - guess they had taken advantage of the happy hour too much.

One Nigerian was busted in Bamboo for selling coke - using the bathroom as his marketplace and touting for business there.

Of course, it could be the usual pre-CNY 'bonus' raising scheme but more likely, it is the start of 'Welcome to Shanghai World Expo' - and it's Olympics style security.

I suspect this will start to happen a lot more in the near future. As you said, best if we ALL carry copies of passport & visa page with us in Shanghai for the foreseeable future.

Do not want to flame as your advices are thoughtfuls, but once LE is into such a place all what you want to do is just to avoid a real evidence as they know more than yourself what you are doing there :)
Obviously in a court "having caught being naked" is a proof and so is having a condom on. In a basket? "Oh sorry..I do not know, not mine" I know you can't fool LE with such an answer.
But surely it is all down to the goodwill of the court at the end of the day (problem is how to 'survive' to the cours day or trial!
The shole thing: raid and "being dressed" is a set up from both sides...

The male clerk told my dad that he saw the girl and now had to give them money. Luckily this was in broad day light so my dad just told them to fuck off and left. He's also had taxi drivers drive him to brothels and illegal places when he just wanted to return to his hotel.

An american friend of mine once visited a local "barber shop" for a quickie. After he did the deed and came out, two guys approached him and told him that the 150RMB he paid inside was just a tip, he had to pay more. Initially my friend didn't know what the fuck they were talking about but once he understood he just told them to get lost. The two pretended to threaten him by saying we're calling the police because what you just did inside was illegal etc. And saying they're calling the shop's manager and friends to come beat him up. The ironic thing was this was in broad day light too so my friend just told them to make their "calls". Eventually he got away.

A beijing friend of mine travelling to shanghai was staying in a hotel. He met a girl at a bar and took her home (can't remember if it was a working girl or just a random hook up). After they got undressed and fooled around a bit there was some massive bangs on the door. When my friend opened the door there were two large blokes who forced their way in. One of them basically told my friend that he was sleeping with his wife and that they'd beat him up for it unless he paid up.

I've heard of more but these are the ones I can remember straight off. Case in point, just becareful. If you don't speak Chinese well or are new to the city, go with a friend or someone who does speak proper Chinese. I tend to never try a place unless a friend has introduced me to it or I have read several reports from ISG. Shanghai and China is a great place to have fun (all my friends have said they love working in Shanghai) but just becareful.

Yeah, my girl was pretty big on that during the session. Perhaps I should send her some flowers and a red pocket. let's hope in situation like that a foreign passport and the willingness to pay a fine will settle things quietly. I happen to bring my protection with me when adventuring so it is always exciting. I am sure the girl cleaning up the bucket in between session and being dress up in PJ won't mean s**t if they are serious about busting some punters for the annual count.

Things seem to be quieting down (at least it was to me, up to the point when those damn lights all came on) and I want to let you know the threat of a full on raid is always real. I am just glad I only had a minor case of being spooked.

Sorry, i meant those pj you wear inside the place. The girl usually hangs them up by the door. I am going to make a damn point to wear them in between pops. I think owners of foreign passport will be targeted as anyone else (even more I dare to say)
Last time I was in a sauna in Shangai (we talk about 9 months ago) the girl became silent all of a sudden, locked the door and tried to understand what was going on. Trying to communicate to me a raid could be on.
Can't remember if we put the pj on.
At the end it seems it was a false alarm, but she was puzzled by some unusual noises of human voices.

Anyhow being caught full naked or with a pj in such a kinky room, with a large shower and its table, on a rounded bed and with a girl, will not make much difference I assume.
I do not think one can pretend an english/chinese literature lesson was going on. The correct address to report to the Taqxi driver is the Tong Mall, Julu Lu 158 Kao Ji Chendu Bei Lu.

Apologies for the double posting earlier. I didn't expect the lag. Allow me to make up for it by writing up my review of a personal favorite, the Hailang Club on Zhongshan West Road.

If you're looking for it, it's at 1277 Zhongshan Road, near Wuzhong Road. The entrance is on the East side of the road, just before the ramp onto the elevated highway. Go in and it's about 20 meters on the left, the second building. As you approach the door the staff will lead you to the changing room.

One of the things I love about this place is it is very nice and very clean. I've been to other famous places (not in Shanghai though, only this place) that were on the dingy side but Hailang is always very well maintained. Once you've changed into the PJs (and locked up your phone-they used to let you keep it in a plastic sleeve but no more) you have the option of going straight up to the massage area or relaxing in the hot tub/sauna area and then showering before going up. It's up to you. Sometimes I like to get in a nice sauna and sometimes I want to get right to it.

Once upstairs you will be led into a private room with reclining chairs and a TV. They'll bring you a beer and some fruit (no charge for either) and you can relax for a bit, or again you can ask to be taken directly to the fish bowl to choose a girl (or girls). Here too it's up to you-only rarely will they ask you to wait while the girls become available.

The fish bowl has been excellent 90% of the time. There was only one time that I went and felt like I had to settle-but that time I was with a friend who thought the whole selection was amazing so it really just comes down to taste. Depending on the time of day there will be between 6-20 girls. The guy operating the room may make some suggestions but isn't pushy and I have definitely been there with friends who took their time selecting and we were never hassled to be quick.

Pick your girl(s) and they will come out and lead you to your room. Again, pretty standard soapie set-up. Interestingly, they didn't use to offer the soapie. After a long absence I returned more than a year ago to find they had installed shower rooms for the soapie service-very interesting how these places invest to improve themselves LOL. Anyway aside from the soapie shower room they have a bed with rails above it for the famous "red ribbon" service, although the first guy that introduced me to the place always called it the acrobat show. Some of the rooms have the sex chairs too.

Service is about what people describe in a lot of these threads. They take you in to the shower room, sit you down in a chair and soap you up and down. They clean out your crack pretty well too in preparation for some salad tossing later, although after the first surprising experience I decline this offering but to each his own. Then they'll give you some teasing BBBJ before prepping the inflatable bed for a body massage with some sort of body oil they rub all over themselves. A couple of times the BJ was very good so I asked the girl not to stop and they were happy to keep it up. Back to the body massage. They usually start you on your stomach and use all parts of their body to rub on your back. Then they flip you over and repeat the process. It makes for an amazing view when they straddle your face and slide up and down your torso. This goes on for about 20 minutes then time to rinse, dry, and get on the bed.

More BBBJ, then she gets out the red ribbon. One note: sometimes they won't necessarily get right to that so if you do be sure to request it. One buddy of mine somehow missed this service and regretted it later when we were all sharing our experiences in the lounge after. She will tie it to the rails and hang upside down while giving you the most memorable BBBJ of your life. Again, an amazing view both from your angle, and from the ceiling mirror. She even does an upside down spinning helicopter move that you will never forget.

You get about 5-10 minutes of that and then she'll hop down and get ready for sex. For the most part it's one pop but a couple of times I've had the girl initiate a second round. Have your fun and then lay around cuddling until it's time to head out. She'll call the front desk and they'll ask if you were satisfied. Despite a couple of less than enthusiastic experiences in my many visits for the most part the girls have been amazing.

Afterwards you can go back to the private rooms and have another beer and some fruit. I've only been charged if I had more than 2 beers and also once had something more substantial to eat, but actually the beers and food are very cheap-I think 10 or 20 kuai for the beer (not bad for a city where most bars charge 40-60 kuai).

Pay on the way out, if you're there before 7pm I believe it's 680, 780 after. They'll help you call a taxi too if you want, as it's not always easy to get a cab right there.

This review ended up being longer than I intended but hopefully it will be useful for someone interested in trying the place out. In conclusion it's nice and clean, great staff that isn't pushy, hot girls most of the time. What else do you need?
