If I do a quick search now for Sukhmvit hotels at less than 2000 baht a night (inclusive of tax) with broadband internet you get a long list of them and many are fine.

You have to remember, in Bangkok its totally and utterly safe.

Do not let people say "security" is an issue, its not.

You have tonnes of choices of restaurants outside in Bangkok so food is not a concern for your trip.

You have tonnes of choices of bars in Bangkok, so a bar is not a key factor.

For most people they will spend a few days in Bangkok, there is no need to spend any longer. Your room you will see only when with a girl or passed out through drink or exhaustion. And provided its got AC and free internet who cares.

The more you save, the more you can spend whilst enjoying yourself outside, money spent on a hotel room is money wasted that could be enjoyed on more girls.

Location is key, most people want to go to Soi Nana, Soi Cowboy, BG Soi 7 etc. At some stage during your trip. So you want to be around lower Sukhumvit.

Perhaps you can help potential customers by clearing up the following:

With your different room rates why not let people know the room size of each one. Its easy to quote the dinky little rooms as "Superior" and low price, but do people know what they are getting?

So perhaps there should be photo's and size dimensions and room facility description with each room type you offer and their price.

That would be helpful, or perhaps that is information you would prefer people not to know, not until after they have checked in perhaps?

Each of us has our own tastes and preferences, what is important to us. Each place, be it bar, MP, hotel, cafe, restaurant, push cart, fills a niche and caters for those that prefer such.

Given that you're (that's the 2nd person, plural form) reasonably intelligent, literate, and have a reasonable comprehension level of what you read, then by doing a bit of research, here and elsewhere, you can make informed decisions, tweaking them as necessary as you gain more insight and experience.

For me, the only rip-off is a hidden charge. As long as it's stated up-front, then each of us can make our own decision on whether the price is worth it [u]for us[/u], be it accommodation, food, drink, or girl.

Don't mean to perpetuate the flame, but I stayed at LL my first time in BKK I even splurged for the double jacuzzi room. Though I had my issues with some minor things then (I was new to the monger scene) it really couldn't have been a better place to stay and feel 'normal' while doing something that is considered socially deviant in the normal world.

Since then, and four more trips to BKK, I have learned the lay of the land a bit better, have found things I like and have stayed from Soi 7 to 21 progressively. Each time I have discovered new things and have grown more comfortable with Suk.

I still have a lot more exploring to do, and will hopefully get there twice this year, now that I know more of what I like and what is available. LL is definitely on the top of short list of places I would stay next time.

Its hard to describe, the environment in the hotel is actually very nice and a nice change from regular hotels. You feel very comfotable while by the pool/resturaunt with a laptop or book. And, as mentioned, once you get to know more of the area everything in lower suk to upper is very accessible. I like the new building with the private enterance. All day breakfast actually makes a lot of sense, small thing, but appreciated.

I have a different take on this. I was going along with the rebuttal and points where being scored for LL. But the PS? Well, just lowers the poster to whatever level his beef is with the other. Just my two satang.

I guess that is why all those hotels in the rest of the city remain empty. I mean getting to these must-visit venues from the Millenium Hilton or Amari Watergate is such a pain that these places must be about to sell off their structures for scrap metal. They are just too far from lower Shukhumvit.

Did your TGF dump you to start working in the Sports Bar? Are you building a boutique hotel with no pool but an on-site soapy massage? Did your mother not hug you enough as a child? There is a time to be civil and a time to *****-slap someone upside the head and tell them "Enough already".

These forums are supposed to be places where people can come for information. They are not supposed to be places where discrete marketing for what I class as "sub standard based on WYG4WYP" places.

Both Annies and LL actively encourage posting on the internet, and whilst they will both deny it to the hilt, the net effect is that they encourage people to write nice things about their places. Both of them therefore develop a "gang" of posters who post on the net and know Aey/Giotto, this turns into "friends" and eventually you get bombarded with pro Annies / pro LL posters and nobody is allowed to post anything negative without have 10 positive replies in return.

Ask yourself why anyone on a BB would go out of their way to attempt to support a place they have no affiliation with at all. You will never see me do that.

Both Annies and LL attempt to portray themselves as the "safe for newbies" places, as if the rest of Bangkok is some big bad dangerous place to avoid.

Its nonsense. Everywhere is safe and nobody should be "scared" into thinking that somewhere is safer than others.

In my opinion both offer sub standard facilities for the price paid and happily fleece the newbies.

They make their money from newbies who are too green to know any different, and that is where information on the net comes into play.

This is why you need lots of different views and opinions and information on the net, so people are not blind sided into getting pushed down a so called "safe" route when in fact they are getting pushed down a marketed route which is, IMO, a bit of a rip off for newbies.

Stay in the vicinity of Soi 4 to Soi 19 and you cannot go too far wrong.

And to answer your question, whilst I still see blatent, IMO, marketing, I will continue to offer a truthful response to allow people to make an informed choice, not a misinformed choice.

Maybe if you stayed at nicer hotels you would want to spend more time there. I spend several hours a day relaxing in my hotel room, reading, working or watching TV. And then there's time by the pool.

I prefer Cowboy / Soi 22 / Soi 33 etc and for that reason prefer to stay east of Asoke where there are many options including LL.

Any merit in your arguments get lost in your obsession to denigrate LL at any opportunity.

Hi all, I am returning from my 2nd trip to Bangkok. I had stayed at the Dynasty Inn, which was recommended to me, near Nana Plaza for four days. I had (stupidly) stored about $2, 500 US in the safe and had not really counted through all of my cash reguarly. I do not know when the theft occured exactly, since I had such a fat wad of cash that I carelessly never paid attention to whether it was shrinking significantly (maybe the theft occured over several days), and any shrinkage I may have just attributed to my own usage. I just took what I needed, but when I was checking out, I counted through and realized that about $1, 000 US (or over 30, 000 baht) was missing. I was not aware that the in room safes could not be trusted. I definitely don't want to be carrying all of that money on my person either. For future trips, I read that putting your cash in the safety deposit box at the front desk is the safest option? Can I get some feedback on where to keep cash in the future, as I really don't want this happening again in the future.

Because the vast majority of people who read this board want to be as close as possible to ground zero of the pay for play scene and Soi's 4-19 is it.

I have nothing against Giotto or LL, and I havn't stayed there so I can't comment on the hotel.

For me though, Soi 33 is just too far away from the center of the nightlife zone. I like to stroll through the nightly madness of lower Sukhumvit without having to use a taxi to get there and back.

No problem at all! We should anyway disconnect the discussion from Livingstone's, there are more hotels in Soi 23, Soi 20, Soi 33, Emporium etc. ., besides all the hotels in non-Sukhumvit areas of Bangkok.

Just to clarify: Soi 33 IS ONE CENTER of the nightlife of Bangkok, as well as Soi Cowboy and the lower Sukhumvit area. It just has a different style.

I completely agree with you - to each his own. For that there will be people who like to stay in "the center" of the action getting back to the hotels without having to use a taxi - and others who appreciate a 5 min. taxi ride to get away from the "nightly madness" and stay in hotels a different area.

I think in essence we agree. I'm not suggesting people shouldn't stay there. I'm saying everyone should stay in the location that is best for them and there will be differences here.

Exactly. Ground Zero and centre of nightlife for most visiting mongers is this area.

From Soi Cowboy down to Soi Nana is the "Lower Sukhumvit Area" (do not forget Sukhumvit road is very long and goes to Cambodia).

Most punters want to go, most of the time, to Nana, Cowboy, Q bar, BedSuper, BG Soi 7 etc.

This is all "Lower Sukhumvit" so what better place than to situate yourself slap bang in the middle of "Lower Suk".

Thats why Soi 4 to Soi 19 is the best location.

Its also easy to jump on the BTS and MRT, you are right next a street market for those who want some copy items or souveniers etc.

This is a mongering forum, not a shopping forum.

For sure many other hotels do good business in other places in Bangkok, but that is not people coming for pure mongering.

This is the advantage of Lower Sukhumvit, there are cheap and nice hotels for mongers, and also high class 5* business hotels for business people, and you can mix and match and do what you like.

Most of my business collegues all stay Lower Sukhumvit area in the Westin, Sheraton, JW Marriot, Landmark etc. As its ideal, raises no suspicions about their trip and hotel locaton choice and they can go mongering when free too, its all on their doorstep.
