I am not one for being up early, unless we are still in bed of course :) , however saw the one MP down from my hotel in Soi Sawatdirak getting ready to open around 10 am most days.

As with everywhere in LOS, service is available 24/7. You could find an MP that you like the look of, choose a nice girl and make a reservation for an early service next day. I am sure they will open up to accommodate you, and the girls will of course do likewise !!

I've been reading like crazy, but Phuket and Patong have so many places. Does anybody have experience with the Yorkshire Hotel?

Seems like it offers a variety of rooms (I'm cheap, my buddy likes 1st Class), pool, restaurant, good internet, close to the action of Bangla Rd, no joiner fees, etc.

Anything I'm missing? Does anybody have experience at Yorkshire Hotel?

We'll be there from 3/18 til 3/25 or so. Drinks will be on me.

Just returned to my Andaman island hideaway from a few days excursion to Patong. The Phuket weather was great...hot in the day, nice and cool'ish in the morning and evening.

Patong Beach is crawling right now with nasty young Isaan girls -- all looking to make a baht or ten thousand before low season hits next month. It's about 1500 baht for the bus ride back to Khon Kaen. PM me if you'd like to see some of the talent on my Flickr **fashion_thai** page.

I never made it to Bangla Rd. this trip as I was busy having some fun with a BG I met last time. I wasn't really in monger mode, but I did see a very pretty girl at my friend's bar who looked like she would be nice company for a few hours, or a long evening (pics attached). She was young (21), fresh and very friendly.

One interesting aspect of the Patong street scene is that some of the [i]farang[/i] women dress a lot sleazier than the nastiest of the bar girls (katoies included). Must be a female (she-male) competition thing?

Watching the faces on the matronly [i]farang[/i] women as they walk by the girls out touting in front of the bars is classic. The cuckolded men in tow are comical, too, as they try to hide their sideways glances at the [i]coo'ing[/i] ladies of the night. All in all, if nothing else, it's cheap entertainment for a short time, and beats sitting at home with the Mrs. watching Thai soap operas.

On the fast fun front -- I found a nice BMW R1200GS motorbike to rent down on the beach. Not cheap to hire, but they are very dear to purchase here in the LOS. I may go back and rent it for a fast spin up the twisty road to Ranong, [i]next time![/i]

For anyone living here, or for anyone else giving the slightest crap:

The Phuket airport parking franchise has been sold to some money grubbing Bangkok ass wipes. Parking fees have just gone from 50 Baht a day (flat rate) to 200+ Baht a day. There goes the neighborhood.

Dammit I hate taxis. Freakin pisser. TIT

How is Karon beach across from the Hilton...is it crowded, clean? Overall, what month do things start to slow down...do you have to wait until May and are there any girls that stay? I always make it a habit of traveling off season and so I'm considering Phuket in May. Any comments much appreciated.

Karon beach (pronounced "Ga-ron")

Last time there the beach was nice and not at all crowded. It isn't like Patong. I can't remember what season that was.
So no need to wait till its starts raining.
Its more of a non-P4P beach I think, but can always go to Patong to find girls if necessary. and bring them back.

Plenty of massage places around everywhere I would think. But I don't like massage and had a girl with me so experience low there.

I was there in Nov last. Beach and water very clean, especially away from the deck chair area and the monsoon drains. Some good restaurants and can access all the same tours, etc as the other resort areas, and cheap (but slow and irregular) buses to Phuket town and Patong.

There is a P4P scene in the main street (a few bars) but very small and low key until late at night. Quality generally poor IMHO so recommend BYO or takeaway from Patong which is also easily accessible by taxi or tuk-tuk.

A far more 'traditional' beach resort than the high energy antics of Patong.

My house up on the hill overlooking Patong Beach today: Typical blue sky, few big popcorn clouds out over the ocean, breeze kicking up about 11 am, perfect water temps, clear water, sultry nights perfect for staying up all night (like tonight.)

It IS going to heat up soon, and a lot more clouds will start appearing in a month or so. Rainy afternoons will come after Thai New Year. Tourist pace has already slowed down here significantly, hotels are bargaining.

Karon:

Karon Hilton is right across the street from Kata Beach, it is very quiet, nicely landscaped, and well maintained. It's a bit far from anything, so you are basically stuck there, tuk tuks ply the area, and you can rent cars, motorbikes, whatever. It's more than a little boring IMO. Karon Beach is good for long walks with the kids, hanging out on the beach with a good book, then going up to the hotel pool with MaiTais, that kind of thing. Lots of families stay there.

Kata:

Kata Beach Resort & Spa, on the south end of Kata Beach, is just over the headland to the south of Karon. The beach there is backed by the Club Med. ($$$$$). This unusual setting separates the beach from the normal Thai bullshit...crappy overpriced restaurants, tailors, 7-11s, and all the rest. Kata Beach really does represent the Thailand everybody dreams of. Swaying palms, turquoise blue sea, a little island close enough to swim to, cold pineapple drinks with umbrellas, iridescent sunsets, and super hot chicks lounging around in the shade.

P4P and partying:

P4P in both Kata and Karon is not good. There are a few bars all tucked together on the main drag, and you may get lucky, but seriously, you have be very very lucky to find anything there worth writing home about.

My experience, old days before I moved here (with pics):

Go to Patong first night, party down, score a honey or two, ST-LT, whatever, make a deal to meet up and do some beach time with you the next day (it's cheap). Buy them cute 2-piece swimsuits, then, while on the beach order lots of Thai chow & brewskis. Then say "Ahhhhh", (and thank me later.)

Tip:

DO NOT forget to take your camera w/you to the beach, so when you get home you'll know you weren't really dreaming after all.

I will arrive 31 March. Had one rainy morning last year at that time just went to Jungceylon instead of beach.

Have 5 days in Patong then 4 days on dive boat before final 2 days.

It was busy enough on Bangla last year though a number of girls said they go home for Songkran and don't come back. They also said they were Thai when other people said they were Burmese!

You do have to look closely in Patong. One of my best last year was right at the back of soi sukhumwit the very last bar on the right. So so many bars! Then there are the Freelancers and the discos and the massage and Christins lots of choice.
