Jedi Earth,
Wonderful report, nice telling it like it is. One either loves the DR or hates it. The DR is all you mentioned and some. I experienced the same initial shock my first few times in the DR. After time it wears off. For me I find the DR to be a lovely place to visit. A lot has to do with the fact I do not put Sosua on my priority list.
As you experienced, flying into Santo Domingo to go to Sosua is not the best choice to make. POP is the airport of choice for Sosua with STI as a backup. STI is still a good hour plus cab drive away at $80 one way.
I agree, Rockys is no biggy as well as Europa is not one of the best guest friendly hotels in Sosua. Baileys to eat and New Garden to sleep! The best English speaking bar to hang out at is Lou's Shark Bar. Everyone talks about Rockys but Lou's is the place to be.
Thanks for the heads up on Residence and Danae! I have always felt Hotel Mercure is the best choice for a first time visit to SD. Jaragua Hotel/Casino is exceptionally nice but not guest friendly unless you sign "her" in at registration time. In the past I have registered at Jaragua and told the front desk my friend will be arriving later. They ask her name to put it on file. I just make up some name off the top of my head.
Sorry things didn't go as you thought they might, too much to try to do in too little time.

Metro bus now stops in Sosúa
Despite the many protests by owners of the taxi companies and small buses (guaguas), the Metro Tours national bus company has expanded its services to cover Sosúa and Cabarete. The bus stop in Sosúa is alongside the Texaco filling station.
The bus leaves four times a day from Sosúa, via Santiago, to the capital Santo Domingo. Departure times are 8.20am, 10.20, 13.20 and 17.50pm.
A one-way ticket to Santiago costs 140 pesos, and 300 pesos to the capital. In contrast to Caribe Tours, the Metro bus does not stop along the way. The journey to Santiago takes 90 minutes, and you're in the capital in around 3.5 hours.
You don't need to travel to Charamicos to catch the bus to Santiago or Santo Domingo.

The Jedi report
Jedi, I really feel for you dude, I think the biggest problem was your limited time and flying in to Santo Domingo. I do have to tell you, I have flown into to both Santo Domingo & Santiago and I would not do that again for a $200 dollar ticket and a free ride to Sosua. I never really saw anything great or off the chart about Rocky's, the best food I have ever had by far is Bologna! , Baileys is good, La Roca good (ask for local menu) 1/2 price, Brittania is good, Pizza place next to Brittania, The Shark Bar best burgers and I don't how or why but Wolfgang makes the best tacos and burittos at Snitzel Paradise? , Tipo Alberto's makes great food and most all of these places are around Classico. That bar you talked about next to Europa, well there is a place right next to it called the 4 Roses and I have done well there several times early afternoon I picked up some banging little spinner named (Kenya) several times right at 4:00 pm (that is when she starts) $1000 pesos for a couple hours, really cool chic very very clean, she used to have really big Christina Agulara Moulin Rouge hair, now she has really short hair. But hey man the bottom line or the point I am trying to make is don't put the D R on the do not return list, there is fun to be had here. You should come with a friend next time or team up with some mongers when you get there. E G
My conclusions:
1. I think the DR is overrated. Its proximity to the US I think makes it popular. Yes the women are beautiful but given the fact that none of them would accept less then $45 US was a big disappointment.
2. If you only have a weekend or so fly into Puerto Plata or Santiago. You don’t have time to spend 10 hours on a bus coming and going. Trust me on this.
3. I don’t think I would return to the DR. China, and Costa Rica have a more established straightforward mongering system. I felt like I had to look for hoes in the DR somewhat. In China you go directly to a BBS, Costa Rica has lots of cathouses and Germany even has the FKK’s.
4. I sort of considered this trip a scouting trip. Maybe if I ever go back I will be able to get a little more than one blow job.
5. Be sure to know what things should costs you. Everyone will try to rip you off.
6. Finding non pros is easy.
7. Change as much money as you can at the airport.
8. Be aware your phone may or may not work all the time.
Jedi,
I am sorry that you had such an experience in Sousua. I visited one day from Puerto Plata, and had a much more pleasant experience. For example, I did fine a girl for $1,100 pesos, and we used the short-time place called Calipso. Also, my cell telephone (AT&T) did work, although the roaming rates are rather high. Everyone did not consider me a DR national. In fact, many presume that I came from the states, until I started speaking Spanish. Of course, they recognized that my Spanish was not the DR variety, but it did not sound U.S. either. I change money at the supermarket, as it gave me a better rate.
I would suggest BB's in the future, but give Sousua another shot.

The 80%
As you can perhaps discern from my title I didn’t have the greatest impression of the DR during my first mongering trip there. Before I launch into my detailed report I would like to thank all who assisted me with additional information during my trip. Without this board my trip would have not been possible. I intend to make this report as detailed as possible so that someone who has never been to the DR can read this report and know all they need to. So please excuse the level of detail...
Dude, unless you plan on returning with someone who knows what they're doing down in DR, go to Rio!

Jedi Is The 80%
Helpmann is saying what needs to be said. Don't judge the DR by JEDI'S post. And no disrespect for JEDI. He shared his experience straight up. However, the DR isn't a good choice for many (Helpmann's 80%) who venture onto its cracked sidewalks. For me, however, it's a goldmine where the genuine and extrordinary nuggets must be sought and sifted from piles of rocks. This is too much work for many. But for me, it defines the experience and makes it exciting. The hunt? Gazelle? lol.
What I got from what JEDI said, is that he prefers a mongering destination where the "set-up" is a lot easier---A more "commerical" infrastructure like a wh**ehouse environment, where the price is set by the house and the procedure for pleasure is standard and well organized. That's NOT Sosua in the DR, which intstead, is full of chaos, risk and finding yourself in uncertain moments...full of possibility or catastrophe.
There is also the opportunity, JEDI, to go to BBeard's outside Puerto Plata, which is a little bit like a self-contained pleasure palace, where you will be surrounded by girls and mongers just like yourself. I've never been, but there are those who regularly have a great time there!
Happy New Year folks. Enjoy your life!

Hotel Voramar
I would like to know if anyone has stayed here at Hotel Voramar and what did they think. I will be there Feb. 4th to the 7th. Then doing BB's from the 7th. to the 10th. I realize it's near the casino and getting to Sosua might be a little annoying.
Thanks

#2128
I have yet to meet one person, fase to fase that thinks the DR is close to what can be had in asia. The only thing the DR has going for it is it is easy flight from the east coast. To any one who has more then a week, the DR is not worth the time.

My 2 cents
I havent been to the DR as often as other members. However I do have some advice/thoughts on jedi's report.
1. As with anyplace you go find the nearest airport to your destination and pay the extra money to fly direct.
2. Unless you are only going for a 4 day alcohol/pfp binge avoid the DR if it is raining. Some will argue that point with me but as jedi pointed out he was bored out of his mind. Even if there is sun you have the issue of getting places and the high costs of transportation.
You can always take a public taxi to puerto plata or caberete but after that you start getting into inflated cab rides and bus routes. My advice would be to have a little money put aside towards organized day trips. If you find a chica to wisk you around even better and cheaper...but you have to find one that is worth it.
The ideal DR vacation to me is beautiful weather lots of outdoor activities a little siesta in the afternoon followed by a night of screwing.
3. The food situation sucks. Baileys is good but pricey. Rockys has really decent food but yes they run out of things quite often. So much for a bowl of tropical fruits in the morning when all thats available is just that " all thats available".
4. I have no idea why you chose europa its been mentioned before that it has been going downhill.
5. The chica situation surprises me. Not to sound rude but I find it odd that you couldn't put $50 to good use...very odd but I don't know your situation.
On that note if you are not willing to spend at least $40 - $60 dollars on a chica then the DR (*today) is not for you.
6. Thank you for steering me away from santo domingo. Ive been tempted to go there but after reading numerous reports I dont feel it is the place for me.
7. When the rain lets up I would like to combine a sosua trip along with samana and jarabacoa. I think that would make for a well balanced active/pfp trip.
Thank you for your honesty and good luck on your next trip.

Food at the Shark Bar is great - Lou has some of the stuff brought in from the US. His burgers are good and the sausage and peppers are best in DR.

Then again, if you are prepared to eat Dominican food, you can get a plate of good home-style food for 100 pesos (US$3). For breakfast and coffee, it is best to buy what you need at a grocery store and fix it in your room (or, if you are staying at Rocky's, in your cell). Two can eat as cheaply as one.
Prices of everything in the DR are going through the roof, not just chicas. My local informant said to me yesterday "Plantains are now 15 pesos EACH, can you imagine? We are all going to starve to death."
So next time you think you got it bad when there is no 1000 pussy in the meat market, just think about the price of platano in the vegetable market.

I went that route for a few days. One day after eating a meat dish I started getting chills. I was really sick for two days. Maybe I didnt go to the right place but then again in sosua you pay to be safe.

I do not believe that anyone is attempting to compare DR to Asia. However, it is and remains a good spot. The short travel time is but one reason. Recently, I had a great GFE in Costambar that came very close to one that I had in Brazil. The DR simply requires more work in, as one member put it, sifting the gold from the rocks. There is gold.

The flying is certainly easier (and cheaper) from the east coast than it would be to Asia.
Language is another factor. Many of us who visit the DR from the east coast speak some Spanish--some of us more and others a bit less--but hardly any of us speak Thai, Tagalog, or Khmer.
The other thing the DR has is, ahem, women. Obviously this is a matter of taste. Either you find Dominican (and Haitian) women uniquely attractive, or you do not. I have said to many people on these boards: "Look at the map. The DR is in the West Indies. If you are not interested in having sexual relations with West Indian women, then the DR is not for you."
The Orient probably offers more in terms of massages, brothels, etc., but the DR is certainly very good for GFE or relationship-oriented sexual opportunities with freelancers.
You pays your money and you takes your choice.
