It is exactly 11:00 pm and I am getting a nice buzz from drinking brandy and listening to Reggeaton all by my lonesome before heading out to the clubs. One thing that bothers me is the younger members who comment negatively on the middle aged punters. I just crossed the 50 year border. Runner, good shape, ex frat boy and I read some of the comments about the drooling middle aged guys. Now, these guys probably never paid for pussy in their 20s or 30s. They had to work hard and get it free, especially in North America. They get the last laugh. They look at the young guys and think, I never paid for this. People get married, get stressful jobs, gain weight, loose family members. Shit / life happens. There was no internet, cheap flights so all I am saying is, if you are lucky to live long enough to middle age, show some respect and no ageist remarks. In Asia, older guys are viewed positively, and even here in Sosua no one asked my age even when I asked how old the chica was. This is very much a North American phenomenon-the ageist thing! That sucks. I think my Haittian girl just tried to contact me, and my wife and daughter are missing me. Life is complicated, short and good-as it should be.
Amen. I'm in your boat except for the "good shape" bit. Rarely monger these days for many reasons, but really enjoyed your post. Thanks.
I presume from this that you are not staying in one of the usual monger hotels. If a loner, good places to meet guys are:
(1) Rocky's Bar for late breakfast from 11. 30am to 1. 00pm. Ask the manager Rick to introduce you to helpful ex-pats and other experienced mongers.
(2) On the Beach, assuming decent weather, from 2. 30pm (sometimes earlier) at casitas#144 (Ruby's Vulkan Bar) and #145 (Siempre Sol). I am not sure if I got those numbers exactly right, but that is near enough to find them. Usually a few ex-pats and regulars hanging out at these two adjacent bars if you need some pointers for you trip.
I will be there 25. The first nights I will stay at Don Antonio. At daytime I go to the beach Siempre Sol with Herman and Tropica with Jos.
In the evening most time in Bar Central. I think that are good places to meet girls.
I just got back from a week at New Garden and was very dissappointed.
The NYC / LA rapper wannabees were blasting rap music, smoking weed and drinking Hennessey all day long.
Management had no control over these guys and let them do what ever they pleased. The Hotel is very poorly insulated so its hard to get a good nights sleep.
That is what you are likely to find at the New Garden Hotel. Not always, but they tend to get that kind of clientele. The good news is that all the other hotels are much less likely to be playing host to this demographic at the same time you are there. It is not always wise to pay for a week upfront, because they are very unlikely to refund your money if you want to depart early.

Back in the day, it wasn't as bad but the crowd you described has increased considerably in Sosua. Too bad because the rooms are decent and I used to like to eat breakfast there.
I must be getting old because I can't relate to the Timberland boots in 90 degree weather look, or the dudes that brag about how many days in a row they popped bottles in D'Latin.

To each his own I guess!
I enjoy the expansion of my horizons that my cloistered suburban life does not afford me and find it ironic that I relate to my fellow countrymen of all stripes more closely abroad that I do back home. Having said that, I do realize that it can get wild and crazy at all hours but have found that it does not always originate from any particular demographic and that a good natured "shut the F. Up!" usually quietens things down.
The flip side is that, when you're not dipping your wick (which is pretty often at my age!) , there is no shortage of newly acquired "brodders from another muthas" around to hang out with, compare notes and exchange intel. The bonus for me is that I can work on getting schooled in, and acquiring an appreciation of, rap music which, after years of being stuck in a 60's time warp, fascinates me.
Peace

If you read this (or any other board) you would know there is a risk of that happening. (I say "risk", because it is not always like that there. You take pot luck). Plenty of other good places to stay. I am not blasting those guys. If that is their idea of a good time and the management welcomes their custom, so be it. You and I can always go elsewhere.
If people are spending a lot of hard-earned cash on a vacation, it is worth investing some hours on research first. If you had read up here or elsewhere you would have gone somewhere else.

Rio De Janeiro changed for ever when these type of people started going there in flocks. The City started to enforce its dormant anti prostitution laws (yeh, they do exist in Brazil!) when these thugs tried to turn the affluent Copacabana neighborhood into S. Central LA or Harlem. As a result, sex clubs were turned into museum, massage parlors into theaters, etc. (get the irony!). Those places that were left open still get a monthly 'visit' from the popo.
Will Sosua be next? Time will tell.
I have a timeshare option and may stay at the Coconut Palms resort in Caberete.
Is that the one about a mile before central Cabarete coming from Sosua? Up a slight slope? If so, hardly an ideal mongering location but if you have already paid for it.
If it is there, you will need a rental car or spend a fortune on taxis. Normally I recommend using publicos everywhere but, if it is the place I am thinking, I have a friend living there and she has been mugged twice (and slightly injured one of the times) while waiting for and getting out of publicos on that lonely stretch of road.

Its a nice place, with a big pool and good food. You can have girls there, they need to check their cedulars. I did a report on this place years ago. The second visit they upgraded me to the penthouse that had a wrap-around balcony and sea views. They gave one of the girls leaving the wrong ID and created a storm. They didn't seem to care and the girl without a ID was with me.
I always walked down to the road and motochonchos pass every minute. You can ride to Sosua for 50p-100p.

Blame it on the brothers if you want, but 99% of the people know it was because of getting the World cup and Olympics.
I must be getting old because I can't relate to the Timberland boots in 90 degree weather look, or the dudes that brag about how many days in a row they popped bottles in D'Latin.
I can sympathize with you on that. Our first time in Sosua, one of my wingmen, who is actually Haitian, had on Timberland boots. We clowned his ass. I used to have a girlfriend in Panama. Her and a lot of other women in Panama would wear boots (even furry ones) as hot as it was there. And when she came to visit me in Atlanta, of course she had to shop for boots. A couple of weeks ago I was a the mall with my girl and her sister in Higuey and to my confusion my girl was eyeing some boots. The bottom line is that people no longer dress for the weather, they dress for fashion. We are just old now, and not with the times.
My brother's first time in Thailand we went into the club and I splurged and bought 2 bottles of Remy for $100 each to share with my friends. The only feeling I got was that of being $200 lighter in the wallet (especially since I already have a room full of alcohol). Needless to say, I won't be doing any shit like that again.

NG thoughts
The NYC / LA rapper wannabees were blasting rap music, smoking weed and drinking Hennessey all day long.
Its hard to get a good nights sleep.
I don't know. I don't mind the wannabees. Honestly, I did not come to Sosua to sleep, but to party. I have missed three fucking breakfasts in the row, because the chicas would not leave before 11:00 am. Truly, I don't think the breakfast here is good value, if they cannot serve it at least until noon, considering the clientele. If you want a TLN from D'Latins you don't get here until 3:00 in the morning. I was up at 6:30 this am, after my second Haitian encounter left, and they do not serve the food until 8:00 am. WTF-should be 7:00 for those who get a chance for only couple of hours of sleep. I guess I did not come to Sosua to eat either. The American brothers in spite of their macho shit, are all friendly. I am more amused by it than annoyed. But it sounds like I am a minority. I was disappointed to hear what is happening in Brazil. Are these the same kind of guys-LA / NYC rap emulators.
I am still at NG, and my biggest disappointment is the chicas in here. I thought there would be a greater variety and it would be easier for freelancers to come in. I have seen the same girls all the time. Some of the other girls are outside the gate and as I am writing this on my porch a chica is waving at me from the door. Looks good from here, but got to save my leche. The pool in here in my opinion is a waste. I will not use it, as there is a beach five minutes from here. The security here is both annoying and professional. I guess it is to protect the clients, as definitely some of the girls are scammers, and I already have had my experiences in the first few days in here. I assumed the security would be at night only, and the girls could come in free on their own will during the day without the border police. I have mixed feelings about this. So don't come to NG for the chicas. On the positive side the rooms are nice, water is warm, three porn channels, great staff, and location is perfect. Sorry, maybe I should have put this in the Sosua hotels thread. Just wanted to comment on the Drake / JayZ followers.

Mostly no one uses either (the chicas there or the pool), but they are convenient to have in case you do decide to partake. The breakfast at New Garden is some of the best you will eat in all of Sosua. Even when I stayed at Terra Linda I would walk down to NG every morning and pay to have breakfast there. The free breakfast at Terra Linda is terrible.

I haven't paid for it I just have the option and I thought I might be saving money. It would be 250 for 7 days and I figured being a little bit outside the action would be beneficial for getting non-pros specifically picking up in the stores and bars etc. I snuck away and visited CMP once after asking my cabbie where the chicas were when my girl was sleep but it wasn't really my cup of team but I prefer a more intimate encounter. Have you guys had any luck picking up in Janet's or the large grocery store in Sosua? I saw some beautiful employees in there last time and I was so frustrated I was with my girl at the time. I didn't know what Sosua was at the time but this message board has definitely opened my eyes. I think I will actually stay closer to the action since with cabs or renting car I may not actually be saving staying in a resort that's a bit of a haul from everything.
