Here is a question on BKK freelancers: how many of them would you say are occasional (regular girls with a job looking for extra cash a few times a month) and how many are out there every night and doing it professionally?

I don't do freelancers much anymore, so its difficult to estimate without the adequate experience. Probably a low percentage. However have definitely had a few part-timers over the years. Recently a girl was in Sheba for her friends birthday, but she doesn't work the bar currently although used to, and doing something else now. However she was willing to go with me that night (no bar fine required) , so hadn't given up hooking completely. I was also informed that 1 girl at EZ massage has a regular job as well as doing some work at EZ to suppliment.

Some of them I've seen around for years (including having a real job during the day) , some do it only during a few month because they have a specific problem (I. E. Pay studies) , or do it a few days a month to pay their rent. Then it's a question of flair to identify them. I would tend to think that most 28+ girls are regular freelancers (with or without day job) , while the (few) younger ones probably only do it for a limited period of time in the year. When I find a pretty young FL in the street or in bars, I usually take her phone number to meet them again when I come back to BKK. Usually, this number doesn't remain active more than 6 months.

I say it is just the opposite with freelancers or any hooker with a job. The day job is something they do for extra money and to socialize. Give thier lifestyle some balance.
None of them are truly career oriented, none of them have alot of prospects. They are looking for some old geezer to sponsor them, and then they still might sell themselves for fun.
I believe most Thai working girls get into the business because they have a friend who is in the business first, not because of pure desperation. Sure, they might have been poor, but rice, chicken, and papaya is cheap. There families were not about to starve. Even after they get boyfriends or sponsors, they will still want to go and hang out with thier hooker friends.

Medicine / treatment for sickness in the family is an obvious high cost item, schooling for close relative also. Sure a friend may suggest a place to work, but surely money is the prime motivation. Not socializing with friends.

Not many can afford an iphone / ipad. I am certainly aware of Thais in desperate financial straits, who are not working as pros, so the temptation to become a hooker could be strong. She sent half a million baths to her family for a new home, most of that was wasted away on gambling by the dumbass male side of the family (father and brothers). Amazing Thailand. I'm trying to convince her to stop giving money to anyone except her sisters.
Also they could most definitely not "make that much money working anywhere". What they would make as provincial girls with no qualifications is 6 or 8 or 10K a month or something, depending where they work (which company and which location ie home village or Bangkok). Most of that little salary would be eaten up by basic necessities expenses so there would be nothing left to send. They can send a lot more doing this job and have a better lifestyle to boot. There is a reason why girls enter the trade, they aren't stupid.
