Just received an email and phone call from my Dominican chica friend who tells me that the economy in the USA must really suck as she and her amingas are only receiving 3-4 Western union payments per week from all the overseas novios and that each individual amount is down from last year. She asked me if I knew any former tourists/amingos ("suckers") that she could email/call and ask dinero for:

1. Medication for mother/father/children/cousins/brothers/sisters

2. Computer/english classes as she wants a good education (never enrolled)

3. Rent as her cousin, boyfriend, neighbor, pimp stole the rent money.

4. Bus money for univeristy classes $25+ dollars

5. Money for salon for job interview (never worked a day in her life)

The list goes on and on and on and on.

This chica is a professional actress and speaks english almost as good as me.

The chicas get the email address of tourists and soon ask for your cell phone/home number. The chicas have told me they get more dinero if they actually invest in a phone call and then cry real loud with real tears. Their new financial 2010 goal is lower requests but larger number of novios. She told me there is no reason to work if she can receive 3 western unions per week of $25-$50 per request. Her monthly western Union financial goal is $500+ us dollars per month. I am a retired psychologist so she was asking me if this is a good plan. What A Fucking Country!

I Will be making my first trip to DR soon. Cannot wait. I was in Punta Cana yrs ago but that is a whole diff environment.

I tend to avoid chicas with good English skills, unless she is a student not in one of my classes. Also, I invest in a pay-as-you-go phone for girls that I meet. I only turn it one when hunting or expecting a call or text.

Yes, my undergraduate degree in psychology has nothing on some of these chicas, but the research is most interesting. :)

They lie, they cry, they manipulate and they scam and without any shame.

That is all it is one big scam after another. There are no real feelings behind most of these girls, despite the screams and the tears and the sob stories; At best they are second rate actresses with a real good story; and so my friends we should either become like them (actors out just for the fun of it) or we shouldn't play this game at all, because any feelings unfortunately get in the way.

Think of the DR as a place without laws and without morals (the wild west) and we are just rolling with the punches and the shots that are being thrown at us not knowing what to believe and who to trust, because you cannot believe or trust anyone who you meet; but what you can do is tell better stories and tell bigger lies and be even more convincing than they are (try it); and that is the only way not to get screwed over (yes it is sad, but that is the fact in the DR; leave your true feelings and shame at the Miami airport and pick it up on your way back it has no place in the DR) Its all a big game, a game of poker and the key is to bluff with every hand and bet high, but know for certain you never win, if you are lucky and keep your wits about you then you break even and thats all you get.

Some DR chicas are greedier than others. For me the chicas in DR are more fun than the chicas here in the States. Just about every chica in the world expects some kind of a gift from a guy.

For me when some chica starts making demands that I deem too expensive, I drop her.

I am not Brad Pitt so I know that I have to spend some money on the chicas. Relative to what chicas here in the States want and expect as gifts, the DR is much cheaper.

Can be difficult to walk away from a great service beautiful chica, but if she is too greedy, it has to be done.

Does anyone know the actual exchange rate right now? Online I'm seeing $36.80, but I know that's not what you are going to get.

Sorry just a quick question! Reading this topic i noticed on 3 or so ocassions that some guys mentioned being quoted 2-3 MILLION pesos for TLN, surely that can't be right!

Well yesterday during daytime it was around 36.25.

BTW, the banks are giving between 35.75 and 35.80 to the dollar for cash. The change guys on the corner will give you 36. The interbank rate has been hovering between 36.25 and 36.30, so if you had a no fee ATM, you might be able to get that. More likely, you´ll get that less 1% or more via an ATM card.

I have gotten between 36.2 to 36.25 pesos per US dollar depending on the cambio I have been to this trip.
