The entrance is a galeria entrance, only 20 m wide. It's very easy to miss.
The sala number is also hard to read. You and the other guys should have knocked on some more doors and maybe have found the right door.

I am travelling all over the world and always try to find the places where the locals get their shot. Not the overpriced tourist traps. I later understood that Help Disco played a major role by contributing towards Copacabana's economy. The rental and sale price of the apartments and hotels nearby went up the ceiling. Secondly, it provided job for several people. I remember seeing the same flower / candy lady, and photographer at Balcony several times. Sad but things change with time. An attorney friend of my told me that he hired a secretary who just graduated from college who had no clue ho to operate his fax machine. Help and Old Rio days are long gone like the fax machine.

Another flight from IAD to GIG on Copa Airlines for US $379.00, included an 18 hour layover in Bogota (2014). Both tickets were purchased 6 months in advance of travel dates. Hopes this helps. Yesterday visited RJ Massage in Av Nossa Sra de Copacabana 680. It is indeed in the Shopping hall there, one Floor down and then up with the Elevator to Sala 1112. Very nice experience; unfortunately the nicest Lady (at the reception) is not doing massage. Still the tantric massage was great. Mixed with normal massage, body-to-body and "happy ending" R280 for an hour (the premium package.

Next up will be Centro and Vila Mimosa. Getting more adventurous and less pricey the upcoming days. Any good starting Point there?

To all of you who like to eat shitty fast-food, avoid McD*nalds in Bonsucesso. Two bandits ordered 40 hamburgers and wanted them for free. The staff didn't want to give away the hamburgers so the bandits returned and shot at the "restaurant".

It the most current and up to date board the locals use. GpGuia got to political hence, many stopped using and updating that board. Hope this helps.
