CGS was certainly girl friendly up to and including my last stay there in November, but as DG says, they have a lot of wedding reception / college reunion type stuff.

I have met mongerers there but I suspect most use cheaper options for that neighbourhood.

Many of them are not receptive to my help despite their situation and this would frustrate me immensely. I used to think why can't I get through to them.

One day someone said something profound to me. Just try to help one person each day and if you've done that you have done your job. He also said if you can make just one person happy each day or do one good deed to another person each day then you are a good person. You may not be able to change the world but you can change someone else's life.

I guess its all about perspective.

First ever night in Philippines off to a good start.

After I landed and got WiFi, found out my hotel in Malate had cancelled on me due to lack of credit card info on Agoda which is bullshit.

Went to P. Burgos street and wasn't my thing.

Went to la cafe which I really liked until I Waitress tried to rip my off for my change. Trying to give me 40 peso change for a come zero and Jack coke.

Took a girl from there who upon getting to the room realized how drunk she was.

She started throwing up in the toilet so I told her to leave. She wanted full payment so I told her where to go. Had to get security to get her out. Told her she could have taxi money or nothing. She eventually left cursing me.

Off to Angeles tomorrow, can only get better I hope.

I will be visiting early next month and in need of a wingman / wingmen to show me a bit of the town. Of course I have RTFF and have a few ideas of where to go but I also want to venture out of the well-worn foreigner areas if possible. Message me guys! 1st and 2nd round on me!

In my experience, most girls are alright with 1,000 php for the first in addition to the standard 2,000 php tip. However, the first shot may be limited to just BJ so up to you to negotiate. Also to minimize haggling, I would also suggest that as you speak to the front desk person (either before or after you pick from the fishbowl) to say I've been here before and please tell the girl it's 2,000 php for tip. It's a pretty standard tip so really no need to pay more regardless of the type of room you pick. This is just from what I've learned from Filipino friends. As a caveat, I also get harassed less for a bigger tip because I'm of Asian descent but am American so YMMV. It's OK to firm and confident when talking about prices but just don't be jerk when doing so.

I know this post is probably too late but I'm a new member so contributing what I can. Hopefully this will help other members for the future.

I have mentioned the example some years ago: I once stayed at the Ibis Slipi hotel in Jakarta. Nearby there was a golf tournament and the organisation had arranged company for the players for the night. The next morning of course there were a lot of fond goodbyes at the front door which caused an elderly lady to say how remarkable it was that so many men were married to Indonesian women. She said it without any irony.

Burgos St, yonks ago, had a Show Place bar. Choreographer, and girls really turned it on. Excellent entertainment, so much so, guys forgot to barfine and of course wanted to partake of the showgirls themselves.

Problem is, I forget its name. Is there a bar in Burgos St with a red hot 'show' these days? Might be the same one I visited some time ago. Thanks.

As an aside, I'd recommend leaving fond memories as just those rather than trying to relive the past. People, locations and attitudes have changed and if you forcibly try to recreate the past, you will be disappointed. My best times have been spontaneous and the more I try to seek out or revisit good times the less successful I am.

Go with the flow time. Never married, never indulged in drugs, never have taken Viagra or similar. I do not pay for Viagra to get an erection for a girl I have to pay to open her legs. Doesn't make sense to me.
