I agree with Balboa-Life is too short. Pay the money and take an L and learn from it. We've all had these encounters in Rio -Mostly in the 1st year in my case. I don't mess with the police there. I have been pulled over 3 times-.

Once in Ipanema in a cab at night-and twice approaching Vila Mimosa where the cops tried to force us to go into Mosaico as they had a deal with them. Once they discovered one didn't have ID this whole mess could go away if we entered Mosaico! Loool if only it had hot girls I might forgive them.

Thats 3 times too many in my book.

Avoid thepopo like the plague there.

I frequent this churrascaria in Centro. Its a big, clean place, good food, good service, live music every night but Wednesday, and its only 35 R for everything!

Conventions are great. If you know people they'll get you in for free. Otherwise you might buy a ticket, about R$150. The convention I always visit never cost me a centavo. I always entered through the delivery entrance with help of friends working there. All kinds of food, beer and drinks being served for free in almost every stand. The convention I visit are for professionals in hotel/restaurant/food/drink-business. All stands have a bunch of lovely hostesses attending the visitors. I never seen so many beautiful girls in one place. Some hostesses works for the company they represent, others are professional convention-hostesses. A small part are hostesses with a "ficha rosa", meaning if the owner of a company wants to treat an important customer in a great way he will offer this hostess to f*ck with him.

A wonderful way to spend a day. Dress up really nice, visit a convention, try to look like an important potential customer and have lots of beautiful ladies in tiny outfits treating you like king. Pick phone-numbers etc.

The only probs is that if I take dollars / euros I lose out each time I convert from 1 currency to another, I'd much rather take sterling and get them exchanged once, also would I get a better rate out there than here? This is where you will get the best exchange rate and you won't get hit with exchange fees twice. In the USA Some bank cards offer a certain amount of transactions per month waiving the ATM transaction fee.

Those were good times in Rio, the dollar was strong, girls were all over the place and everything was cheap. I made a lot of friends from the northern cities of the US, we had a lot of fun and saw the same great guys over and over again and yes when Help closed that all stopped. You present a good question, is there a board here for Sosua? If so maybe ask your question there, maybe some of those guys will respond if they are there.

With Help Closed and Plane Tickets Expensive, Most of them head to Sousa since its way more close and much much cheaper. 1 week in Brazil is 2 weeks in Sousa.

[/QUOTE]I get this a lot in Rio, it makes me laugh all the time, they tell me I look over 15 years younger than I actually am and I say thanks and tell them my age which is about 12 years younger and they say wow you look great for your age.

This could be coming from a few places, one is that I have seen that some of these poor Brazilians don't age well, so they are coming from that point of view. Could be someone 40 in Brazil looks like a 60 year old who takes care of themselves in the US with better health care and less stress.

Could also be they're being smart and charming us. After all how many girls would you call back if they told you you look old or your pau is smail? In Rio I don't trust anybody, nobody knows what day I arrive or what day I am leaving and my place is fully theft proof when I have strangers as company.
