WARNING: fellow mongerers, around the RLDs, there are thugs not associated with the RLD that hang around the outskirts looking for chumps. They promise a better selection of girls for a cheaper price. I was pretty boozed up, and on my way to Miari, when some fellow told me of a new place that opened up. They even had a guy waiting to drive new customers to the place. Well, I am a pretty trusting person, and Koreans on average seem very trustworthy, so I jumped in. After like a 30 min ride, we got to this place. Looked kinda seedy, but again, low overhead. Went down a flight of stairs, and it looked like a club. Got put in a room, a low 20 ish girl walked in, some fruit and a bottle of whiskey was brought in, which was part of the negotiatied 60k won, including the girl, so I thought. The girl drank like a fish, and something didn't seem right. They kept bringing in more bottles of this whiskey, but the bottles didn't even seem new. I told the girl lets go to the room. They finally got fed up and let me go.

Moral of the story. DO NOT STRAY FROM THE BEATEN PATH. If you meet anyone that promises you action other than the public places, walk away.

Sorry if I'm a bit off topic here. Since there's no section about Seoul/Korea Hotel, I guess this might be the best place to post.

I will be making my way to Seoul this coming October and these are my options for place to stay. My last stay was at the Renaissance and it was a bit underwhelming in comparison to Bangkok's finests.

I'm looking for the best place to stay in Kangnam-area. It should also have the best chance to impress the women I'll be inviting over as guest. The bonus would be if it has happening club like the Grand Hyatt.

1. Amiga
Like: For Executive Class, free mobile phone rental, airport pick-up, driving range, sauna
Dislike: No Club, Fitness Center not as nice as the others
2. Oakwood
Like: Walking distance to Coex, Shopping, Use of Galleria Fitness, Roomy, sauna
Dislike: Lobby, No Club, no driving range
3. Ritz-Carlton
Like: sauna, nice spa, Nice Fitness, Nice Lobby, certain room has laptop available, driving range
Dislike:
4. Intercontinential Coex
Like: Walking distance to Coex, nice lobby, club, nice fitness center, driving range
Dislike: room has no character, straight forward
5. Grand Intercontinental

I think you hit all the major hotels on the main strip of Kangam. I believe the Grand is more expensive than the COEX Intercontinental, which I guess would make it more impressive. IMHO the Grand has the best location of all in Kangnam, especially if you have the money to spend on the girl. Good places next door to shop (Hyundai dept) and close to City Air Terminal, subway, etc. If you're alone, it's also great to just walk the COEX mall and gawk at all the pretty gals. The Grand gets my vote.

The Shilla isn't in the Kangnam area but it has the most impressive exterior. If you're trying to impress a girl, I would think that's the place due to the castle-like surroundings and separate wedding facilities. The Shilla has larger rooms for executives too. The drawback is that you really can't easily walk anywhere. It's not too far from Kangnam.

Personally I don't like the Grand Hyatt but I think it's mostly due to its proximity to Itaewan. I've never stayed there and only visited it. It's nice inside (and very expensive) but that's about it. If you want more of a western atmosphere (drinks, food) then it's good. NOTE: The food and drink at both Intercontinentals tends towards Korean and not western if I remember correctly.
