There're a small number of reports on Shepherds Market on the board - I posted one last summer. But it's a good idea having the occasional post reminding people that this little haven exists right in the heart of London.

It's within the prime real estate area of Mayfair a few minutes walk from the Ritz, Intercontinental, Hilton and other top class hotels an area better known as a location for eating. Yes the surroundings are a bit more salubrious than Soho and this is reflected in the slightly higher prices but the service standards also seem higher. Another plus is that they tend to be open into the early hours of the morning.

I'd been aware for many years that Shepherd's Market is a fertile venue for punting as I used to live nearby over 30 years ago long before my punting career started. In those days, the area was a hangout for street girls at all times of the day despite being an extremely upscale residential area but none of them took any interest in me - a spotty teenager at the time. I recall though my father mentioning that he was accosted by 5 different ladies on a Sunday afternoon while walking home but I'd be very surprised if he'd ever indulged. Nowadays, the street girls seemed to have moved elsewhere but there are a few walkups still evident by their open front doors, garishly coloured walls stuck on which posters promoting the ladies who worked there.

I never fancied striptease clubs and I actually stopped to visit them when I was 19yo. Come out the station head towards hyde park corner, take about the 4th turning on the right hand side (White Horse St.) and Shepherd Street is at the bottom.
