I experienced the Thai water torture Pattayan style last year and once is enough. At least in Bangkok, if you are reasonably dressed, most will demur from soaking you and all you tend to get are a few restrained squirts. In Pattaya you know that no matter if you were dressed as the pope, you would be a soaking wet pope within yards of leaving the hotel.
I went to Panthip Plaza yesterday and did a lot of walking, past many groups throwing water about. I was within yards of my hotel and congratulating myself for escaping relatively unhosed. But I failed to spot the 4 year old boy with the bucket of water. Aaaaarrrggghhh.

I had to use Dynasty Inn Taxi (twice the cab rate) via the back door so I could escape dry. I will make sure I miss the crap on any future trips. They should just restrict it to certain areas and stop the dudes driving around as the local papers report of the fatalities and injuries caused by idiots and drunks. I saw a article where someone recommended total alcohol ban, now that would get people thinking and screw up tourism.

If it were on one day only, I might even partake, as I did once a few years ago at the beach wearing a swimsuit. Got my face painted by a little girl while I stopped and bent down to let her have her way with me. Got soaked with buckets of water and squirt guns. It was fun for awile.
