Trip Report, Havanna 6/2008
Warning this is a report of a HAV firsttimer, so don't expect spectacular in depth information, it's meant to broaden the pattern and to affirm statements already made on the board; most important I agree:
Cuba is not a prime monger destination!
Well, this was quite clear when I went and the purpose of the trip was also culture, people and language, so I wasn't disappointed at all. For better understanding (I apreciate this in other reports as well) some background information: I'm a single European male 48 year old male with some Spanish skills, university degree, well travelled. I'm in shape, dress proportionately and follow the safety rules. This was a 2 week trip.
Casa:
Set up via email using sites mentioned on the board, some didn't bother to respond, always expect delays in communication. First night had to stay in another casa (unexpected? ) but finally got a nice legal apartment with private entrance. The owner was quite cool, didn't pay in advance, chicawise we agreed that I write down the carnet-information, just in case something goes wrong. Everything went smoothly, no only 1 chica rule, chicas stayed daytime, TLN, only 1 incident. Once (daytime) the dueno asked for carnet but obviously info wasn't written in the book. My impression was that the dueno didn't stay up all night if I had a chica TLN.
Chicas:
As already stated: Cuba isn't Thailand or Brasil, so no point and click. But you should always prepared for a surprise (so have a plan in advance).
Example: waiting for an appointment at cine Jara (next to Copelia) there was a chica obviously waiting as well. A little punishment in mind (for my date coming late) I started talking and we agreed to leave together if our dates don't show. This was the last time she came late.
Because of this experience I figured this might be a good pickup spot and started "waiting" without a date. Another day (at Jara) I was approached by 1 chica in this cute schoolgirl uniform asking for 1 CUC to go to Copelia with her 2 amigas. Being a gentlemen I invited them to have an icecream together – to bad they were only 17, but I enjoyed the afternoon anyway.
One night at Turquino (Hotel Havanna Libre 2nd floor) I met a couple and after some talking and dancing she started offering herself – too bad she wasn't attractive enough. In this and other clubs it seemed to be common to introduce touristas to the audience. Nice service and lot's of contacts afterwards.
In hindsight I wouldn't say Cubans are shy and reluctant to make contact, people notoriously asked for time and light (fosfero). People means everybody – male, female, pro non-pro, old young – and it wasn't always to sell cigars or other "things". Just keep the situation in mind and act accordingly. I mean, what's up if you're sitting in a bar and the chica next table asks you for a light when there is one lying on their table?
Also expect to be invited for some kind of fiesta, I. E. Birthday party. I got 4 invitations, but only went once with a chica I already knew. Call me a coward, but I wasn't up to go at night to a place in the outskirts of HAV with somebody I don't know at least a little.
I stayed with 5 chicas, all gfe (3 semi-pro, TLN 25-35 CUC) and 2 non-pro (internet). I tried to avoid the pros, but did some bargaining with them, I. E. 35 in Turquino; starting price 100.
One chica (semi-pro from Granma, not shaved) mentioned the famous "Up to you" – en espanol, this was the only one that had to be walked by a familiar to my casa.
Pick up places:
Well I stayed in Vedado, so most experience was there. So calle 23 was good, although I didn't like the Malecon esp. Next to 23 and the La Rampa area (lower part). My best results were between Copelia and Ave. Presidentes. In front of Copelia is La Rampita (small outdoor bar), next to cine Rivera (esq 23 & Ave. Presidentes) is an airconditioned bar, both worth to have a look at once in a while. Ave. Presidentes has the rockeros at night, but I guess I'm too old for these, but during day lot's of nurses (between 23 and the castle). Well no success with these, maybe because always too much colleagues present, maybe I should have asked my dueno to borrow me his dog for a walk.
Clubs: Turquino, Havanna Club, Sala Roja, sufficiently covered in the board, just keep in mind the 10-20 CUC cover, once went to a club far out, better atmosphere but was with a chica.
Policia:
Never had a problem, the chicas (esp. Internet) didn't seem to be afraid of them. We walked together day and night (Vieja, Centro, Vedado) and they never stopped us. Once with a semi-pro we took a taxi on her demand, but I don't know if she was anxious or just lazy. The only one, that seemed worried was the one from Granma. So, no hassle – and I'm glad for that; although there was a significant age gap and colour (sometimes). Well that's just my experience (maybe confirming the non-, semi-pro status) but I'm sure that all written in the board is true and the availability of chicas would be much better without police.
On the other hand I observed that carnets (of chicas without company) were checked at La Rampita and Playa del Este. At PDE was heavy police presence, but I saw other couples with parttime GF.
Final thought:
I enjoyed Cuba, but as already said, I didn't came for mongering only.
Expect the unexpected, have a plan ahead because sometimes you have to make a fast move. But if you have them on the hook and into conversation play it slow, decide wisely and don't be afraid to go home alone (I did 3 times). When they started to get pushy, I considered them jinetera and lost interest, but for those interested, this was when prices dropped to < 40.
My thanks to Jackson and all of you guys contributing,
Suerte Smily

Cuba is not a prime monger destination![/QUOTE]Great report, Smiley59! You wrote a very comprehensive report on the Havana mongering scene. Very detailed - I am impressed !
For a first-timer, it seems like you hit the right mongering spots! Vedado is a good area for cruising.
You did well with the owner of your Casa PArticular. That was a great compromise you struck to let you bring in girls
Questions:
1.) What was the general description of the women you bedded? Age? Race? Build?
2.) Got any fotos to post?
3.) Would you go back ?
