Overstaying tourst visa by 1 day?
I'm currently in PI, having arrived on the 25th. I'm leaving on the morning of the 15th of June and given my rudimentary math skills, that I thought was 21 days. However it's actually 22 days.
So, what's the consequence of overstaying your visa by less than 1 day? I arrived on the 25th at 10pm, and am departing at 9am so it's by the hour actually less than 21 days. Will I run into any problems at the airport on my way home?
Thanks,
MC.
Passport Stamp 59 Day Visa
Here is my story about Phil Immigration. In March I spent 44 days in Phil and got a 59 day visa at the Phil consulate in the usa before the trip. When I was leaving the Manila to head home I handed my passport to the official and he looked at it and asked when I arrived. After I told him he said I had to leave the line and get into the cashiers line at another window. I asked why and he said the other person at the cashier window will explain. Well ok I moved to the cashier window and handed the new guy my passport. He looked at it and asked when I arrived in Phil. I told him and he said I needed to pay a fine because I overstayed the 21 day visa. I explained to him that I had a 59 day visa and he said no and he showed me where the stamp was on the day I arrived and it said 21 day. HMM well i told him I hace a 59 day visa and that it was in my passport. He handed the passport back and told me to " show me" Well I have a LOT of stamps in my passport and have had extra pages added as well, but I found the visa extension and showed him. He then asked me if I had told the immigration official when I arrived in Phil that I had the 59 day visa and I said no I just handed him my passport as I always do. At that he told me that it was all MY fault ,he could STILL fine me because I should have told the guy when I arrived that I had a 59 day visa. HMMM well I knew I was in the right and I had complied with the immigration requirements but I also knew I had a plane to catch in an hour and he was the one in uniform holding my passport. I decided I did not want to miss my plane by assserting my innocence, and told him how Sorry I was that I did not do they right thing. Hearing that he did not lose face and said ok and he stamped my exit stamp and smiled and told me to have a good flight. You can bet from now on I WILL check my entrance stamp when I arrive and will not have to deal with this problem again.
Whenever you arrive in Manila, YOU MUST inform the guy that you have a 59 day visa ON PAGE X. Most of the time the visa is not just before the last free page, so in a way I can sympathize that the officer cannot be expected to wade through a passport full of stamps, especially if there is a long line of growling visitors! IN ADDITION, after getting the stamp, CHECK CAREFULLY that they have put the correct entry stamp on with the expected final departure date. If it is wrong go back to the immigration counter and get them to fix it. In other words check, check, check. I know of a friend that had the same problem as you. In fact, if you have a visa for any country, tell the immigration officer on entry into that country. Saves hassle.
