Ross Perot was a protectionist. If I remember correctly he ran in 1992, the same year as Pat Buchanan. They were obverse sides of the same coin. Buchanan was the forerunner of today's Trump. Perot did not have the cultural appeal to today's Trumpers but had the same protectionist zeal. As it were, Buchanan lost in the primaries to Bush and Perot got 20% in the general. Till date, GOPers blame Perot for electing Clinton. Combine Perot and Buchanan into the same person, throw in a bit of Lou Dobbs and you are not too far from Trump.

There was a guy called Spencer Johnson that wrote some book called who moved my cheese. And that is of course distorted by the fact that the USA Has a heavy distortion of its income being earned by the top percentile. Not just the 1 percent as demagogues like Bernie claim, but some reasonable percentage. And that reasonable percentage of high earners likely makes more per person than most any country in the world.

And it is not entirely because of structural unfairness like demagogues Bernie and Trump claim. I am not sure which of them I dislike more, Bernie, who is old enough to know better than to give candy to children who need a solid meal, or Trump, who doesn't care about the consequences of giving guns and knives to the deranged.

Although the USA Does have structural unfairness that it would be nice to change, the USA Also has a large underclass that refuses to adapt. The ones who do adapt often do fine economically. For the reasons you listed, I do love FKKs very much. I think I said this before but if I happened to live in the vicinity of a large high quality FKK, I probably would not have pursued other alternatives either. (d) banks and big tech have the bucks and totally own the politicians on any serious policy, specifically joint silence and inaction on effective capital gains tax.
