This is just a Thank you note for the all the mongerers who posted reviews and comments for Jakarta. Just had a visit.

I am completely sold on how everything is setup at Hotel Classic. 19 y old muslim chicks + a nice room with full size mirrors / shower for just 365 k IDR! This is the Best Value for Money Mongering destination hands down.

Here is a fun fact, sometimes Dr Google alter the English word meaning to Bahasha Indonesia yielding in funny and confusing meanings. I'm also thankful to ISG members because without this forum I wouldn't be able to enjoy Jakarta the way I did, it's not like Thailand where everything is out in the open. Agree zippos completely, I just feel Jakarta is a special mongering destination and needs to be explored continuously and more regularly. Poor flight connections (as compared to Thailand) and weak infrastructure allows thousands of tourists to give it a miss, which is where us mongers pitch it. I am glad we are not their main source of bread & butter otherwise it becomes too commercial, look Thailand is a prime example, its gone southwards for me. There's an ATM right outside the Holiday Inn Suites Gajah Mada. Most hotels also have ATMs nearby, often right at the hotel or just across the road. Don't forget to collect your card after the transaction. Once, with all the exchange rate calculations and handling large numbered IDR notes, I forgot to take my card back from the ATM. Fortunately, I had a backup card, but it was still a bad experience.

When I stayed at the Ibis Tanah Abang almost two years ago, I exchanged GBP cash at Chandraprima, which offered a good exchange rate. I found two options through a quick Google search, and Chandraprima was conveniently close to the Tanah Abang hotel. However, it's quite far from the usual Holiday Inn Suites Gajah Mada area, which this sub tends to prefer.

Just make sure to bring only clean and unfolded currency notes, as most money exchangers in Thailand and Indonesia prefer brand-new notes I have no idea why. Hope this helps.

BCA was for me the best with max 2.500.000 IDR per transaction. The ATM that is in Holiday Inn hotel BNI max 1.250.000 IDR per transaction and CIMB the max was 3.000.000 IDR but I paid 75.000 IDR fee. If members have better alternatives place share.
