Cabins are more or less like those of Cancun unless you ask for the cabins next to cafeteria, they are way bigger. Cabins only provide enough space for three people.

My regular wasn't working today at 119 Alfandega so checked a few of the other clubs in the area. 210 Uruguayana (no entry, no minimum consumption) had maybe 12-15 girls and lots of guys, but no girl that sparked my desire (the girl I did last week won't be back until tomorrow). Went to 145 Uruguayana (no entry, minimum consumption). Asked the guy if there were girls in the club, since the last time I was there it was empty. He said yes, so I went up to the club area. 6 girls, three with some guys, one with another guy, two unattractive ones by themselves. Went back down immediately and handed him back the drink ticket, telling him there were no girls, and left without objection from him. Dead club. Went to 31 Machado (10 real minimum consumption). Met the owner again while I was walking in to the club. A dozen or so girls, a few less guys, but no one fuckable for me, so finished my beer and left. Didn't bother with 502 Alfandega given the lack of doable girls in my last two visits. 119 and 210 are the best of the cheap boates in my opinion.

Appreciate your understanding gents.[/QUOTE]I'm happy if I can help a good contributor like Papi Muy Rico. If you had intention to change money in Centro i would recommend Casa Behar or PM Turismo, both on Av Rio Branco. As you want to change in Copa the suggestion will be different.
Do like this. First check the rate on PM Turismo website:

Then you'll get an idea what's the going rate in the casa de cambios. Then you head to Rua Xavier da Silveira in Copa. On that street you have 3 cambios and around the corner on NS Cop you have 2 more. In five minutes you can check the rate at all the cambios. BlameitonRio-Bobby will give you a bad rate. If you go to Berthas make sure you speak with the obese guy (the owner). I guess Viajes Norte will give you the best rate among the casas de cambio in that area.

The rate on PM Turismo website is decent, but you can expect a clearly better rate if you negotiate well with the cambios I've mentioned. Always negotiate with the owner.

P.S If you change Euros you get a extra good rate if you have very neat and new 500 Euro bills.

Appreciate your understanding gents.[/QUOTE]On the same block of the Rio Othon Palace which is Rua Xavier da Silveira there are about 3 or 4 cambios right across the street from Bobby's blame it on Rio store. What I usually do is go in each one and ask if I can get a better rate if I exchange 1,000 or 2,000 dollars, they usually do a little better for volume. Hit all 3 or 4 of them including Bobby's blame it on Rio and see who gives the best rate. I never exchanged with Bobby. I have even been told by my apartment agent that she has the best rate and one day she did and have even had the taxi driver offer me the best rate but you may not know the best rate there until you start to compare different places. Of course there is always someone here who has that favorite place in Centro or somewhere, I just go to the close and obvious places.

Bobby is a very nice guy, but with serious alcoholic problems. I've stayed several times in his old apartment with 5 locks on the door on Djalma Ulrich, and my conclusion is that he's very paranoid. Still, he's a survivor and I admire and respect him for that, even though I would never use his services.
When I'm was doing my cambio runs with my cash, Bobby's rate always have been a joke with his offered rate. A bit like: "Hi, amigo, I know you for 25 years, but still let me try to f*ck up your cambio. If you're not interested I still have a expensive lavanderia to offer you."
Don't get me wrong. I'm happy Bobby is still around. He's a relic from the Old Days, just like the The Professor, Big Balls on the ho-beach, Fiscal the Natureza and the old chewinging gum lady outside Help. Bobby is a dinosaur (just like me and RioBob (I hope you don't mind)). But sometimes the dinosaurs are useful to get a different perspective from the newbies who wants to give a (unfortunately) wrong picture of the Rio scene after.

I'm not going to flame you as I've never met you. But to accuse someone you admit to not knowing very well (Bobby) of "very serious alcoholic problems" is a little unfair.

When I saw Bobby on Wednesday he was clearly sober, seemed happy and looked healthy for his age. He had customers coming and going. To be an expat in Rio and maintain a business for over 15 years is quite a feat. A feat I imagine would be nearly impossible for an alcoholic.

Yeah. I was asked to invest in his laundromat. I passed. Looks like it's still up and running. Good for him. My opinion about Bobby isn't wrong, as you state, just different. He's a character and to me a solid dude.

There's a lot of relics from the old days. Many are still around. And most, like me, don't post much anymore because of how toxic certain topics become (like opinions on Centaurus).
