The Nairobi hookers are not happy with all the high-class shopping malls & expensive hotels replacing the cheap bars & brothels where they used to practise their trade.

A section of residents in Nairobi is unhappy with the rapidly changing skyline, saying it is hurting their business.

It is a contradiction, but the rise of new buildings, especially in downtown Nairobi tracing Luthuli Avenue, River Road, and part of Ngara, is leaving commercial sex workers a distressed lot. The old lodges, hotels, and buildings being taken up by malls and new classy hotels is not only changing the ambiance, it is also driving the lot farther out of town.

Some of the over 7, 000 commercial sex workers in the city are unhappy with the changes. They say that with the opening up of the city, some of the hotels and lodgings where they used to operate have been refurbished and are now malls and stalls, especially in Nairobi's downtown.

The current Extreme Sounds building along Luthuli Avenue, which harbours stalls selling music systems and mobile phones, among other goods, was formerly the home of Three New Eden brothel.

'When we saw Three Eden closed and in its place new stalls put up, we knew our time here was up, and many more such places are now being transformed into other businesses, even supermarkets, ' said Mary-Loise, a commercial sex worker who patronises Luthuli Avenue.

There is also Nairobi Matt that is yet to be fully operational after being transformed from City Lodge.

Some of the sex workers have said that the developments have scared away their clients, who cannot keep track of their location as the city gradually changes.

A number of other places that have been transformed include Jerry City — along Kirinyaga Road — that is still under construction, and former Inooro Hotel Club, now County Hotel.

County Park Hotel is now a high-end facility handling international visitors and select customers after it was transformed into a three-star restaurant.

The current New Amar Bar and Restaurant was formerly Amar Place, and Inora.

'We used to make between Sh8, 000 and Sh10, 000 on a good day, but nowadays even Sh2, 000 is a nightmare to us because the city council officers have become more vigilant, ' said Julie Brown, another commercial sex worker.

They said that they were considering moving out of Nairobi and added that over the next five years, the idea of waiting for clients along the corridors of some of the remaining hotels where their trade goes on will almost be impossible.

Perhaps high-end areas along Koinange Street might survive the development.

This, according to them, has been made worse by the fact that life in Nairobi has become expensive.

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) , a UK firm, recently conducted a research which found that Nairobi is the second most expensive city in Africa after Lagos in Nigeria.

It said Nairobi's ranking is linked to the steep rise in the cost of six goods in a basket used to measure relative prices.

An audit by a task force revealed that some entrepreneurs were circumventing the law by running brothels disguised as licensed massage parlours.

A 2012 Nairobi City Council report set up by then lawyer George Aladwa indicated that some people have opened massage parlours which they use as brothels.

Hello to all fellow mongers, time to give back to the Kenya forum. Landed 5 th April evening Nairobi. Did not do any prebooking. Taxi is unfortunately Ksh 2000 as previously reported from AP to CBD. Cleared Immigration got a local Safaricom Simcard, pulled out some KSh at the airport. I stay at the Central Park Hotel, got the resident rate without a lot of arguing double for 3800 ksh a night. As I prefer semis I went the first night Friday to Black Diamond. Good crowd, good selection. Taxi is 500 from CBD to Westlands prepare to haggle. Took my time at the bar and picked a nice 22 yo semi Kikuyu. Performance was average, no DATY, various positions, average BBBJ. In the morning I gave her 1000 ksh taxi money. My mistake was I dated her a second time, and then she pulled out the GF card and it got expensive, she wanted to Black Diamond again, have some dinner on Saturday and hit me with request of 3000 ksh in the morning. Therefore she shot herself out. Will not call her again. Turned out that she had already a number of white BFs and high expectations for low performance. Today I took the most cool caribbean music disco bus which I like, spontaneaously to Eastlands, in the bus I met a nice Meru girl and we exchange phones. Maybe today there will be some more no pro action. Alternatively I heard about a very cool reggae club in BuruBuru Eastlands called Latitude. Maybe I head there tonite if my Meru contact doesn't work out. I am sure the only wite guy there haha.

Here is my summery of a 12 days trip to Nairobi this February. I left just before the elections and had no inconvenience because of them.

Accomodation:

I stayed at terminal Hotel in moktar dadah street right opposite the nakumatt lifestyle. They charge 2000 ksh per night. The building and rooms are time worn but it is a good budget choice with reliable stuff in the center of the business district. In the nakumatt complex there are some restaurants and a fast cyber. Near the entrance there is a café with a terrace and one can conveniently watch all the people coming and going from their shopping. The terminal hotel is without breakfest or gym, but I had the java coffeeshop and the premium fitnesscenter at koinage street within walking distance.

Girls:

From the point of view of mongering I was not very successful. My goal was to play exclusivly in the amateur league and with this self imposed restriction things turned out to be a bit complicated.

So during an afternoon walk in the shops at tom mboya street I could have made several dates but the dates with these private girls were not easygoing. Perhaps I concentrated also to long on one particular girl, a 28 year old waitress with slim waist and large pendular tits. After two dates without sex I was not sure whether finishing with here or flirting around with here some more. The concept of accompanying me to my hotel room and receiving 'taxi money' in exchange of this was completely new to here. For this purpose I have fake facebook acounts and after every trip to africa the number of contacts increases.

University girls:

There is a university hostel with an abundance of students on the way from the CBD to the arboretrum. On the way to the norfolk hotel there is another university mongering option. But the girls don't give the impression of easy picks.

Smoking:

Before my trip I wrote that this time I was travelling with a heavy smoking friend and received some kind advices. In the rooms of the hotel where ashtrays so the problem was solved. The smoking corner in the jevanjee park is really small and your are surrounded by smoking kenyans asking you for money and inviting you to massai market.

Warning:

My friend went to simmers and a girl put ko drops into his tusker. The next morning described me with enthusiasm the wounderful night with this girl. But he could not explain, why he was totally drunk after two beers. When he wanted to change money at the bank he realized that 200 euro where missing from his wallet and he had the explanation for his dizziness.

From the behaviour of this particular girl I had the impression it was only a question of time to have her in bed and I was right, because I finally succeeded. Finally I mention another health thing which concerned me more because kenya is a destination where I could immagine to stay for a few months during our winter time. This would however raise the malaria question. Taking the pills for months is not an option for me. It is common knowing that for the center of nairobi one does not need the pills and the risk for contracting malaria is low. But I wanted to know how low it really is. The only reliable source I found was the following link, which however also does not give concrete statistics but generally states the risk for contracting malaria in nairobi city is VERY LOW as long as you stay within the city limits and most cases of malaria in nairobi seem to be imported from otther parts of the country.

Hi naked, the internet works well in the room, but no broadband that means no skype or streaming video but ok for mails and surfing. In the end I paid only 3000 ksh a night, as I had only "company" so I only paid for a single room. Absolutely girlfriendly, the girl has to deposit the I'd and the reception calls me back if they can release the "visitor" very good in case she takes something she not supposed to take.
