Holy Shit, in wanting to pay back for all they great advise I got from here, I have posted this in the wrong area, it should be in the Bali section. Perhaps someone could help get it moved.
Sorry about that, I have my JKT story to come.

Soft Penis, Use "copy" and "paste" or copy to clipboard to move your report to Bali section. Then go back and use the "Edit" button on your Jakarta post to delete it. Nice report, thanks for taking the time to write it. I tried to PM this to you but couldn't -- you might want to pay the $19.95 to subscribe so you can send and receive private messages and view the photos.
What is the existing currency exchange from USD to Rupiyah. Are the exchange rates in hotels and outside the same? where is the ideal place to get good exchange.
To further illustrate my point below, today I changed money in town at the rate of US $1 = 9,390 rupiah, then this evening I was at Hotel Le Meridien and noticed that the posted rate at their front desk was US $1 = 8,560 rupiah.
Also, US bills with John Snow's signature (Snow was Bush's second Treasury secretary) are also acceptable. Try to avoid money with O'Neill's signature (Bush's first Treasury secretary) as those are considered too old.

Hi brother...
Never exchange your dollar in Hotel or Tour n Travel, Hotel usually have high taxes meanwhile Tour n Travel are taking advantages from customer who wish to buy tickets from them...
Exchange your money in some places who are doing their major business in it.
I give some example;
Piti Pily in Tebet...here is their phone number : 021- 8307451, 021- 8305519.
Or find it in Yellow Pages...there are such place who are doing business in exchange currency...and they have competitive rate.
cheers.
Mighty Spearsman made all the relevant points on this but just to add one thing about ATM's: some ATM's have a very low limit on the amount they will dispense in one transaction AND they charge a fixed fee per transaction if you don't bank with that bank. I recall one "emergency" occasion when I needed around 2 juta and had to make 5 or so transactions (in Plaza Semanggi) and I calculated that it cost me around 300k more than it should have.
If you are "anal" about money, exchange rates etc it's best to have a local bank account with online banking and transfer money from home which costs nothing and the exchange rate is better. That's what I do. There is an English expression which is apposite: penny wise, pound foolish.
I have just been in Jkt for 3 months and gone through all the reports which
are really informative. Tropical Spa sounds like a great place. Could anyone advise me the address of this place?
Many thanks for the assistance in advance.
Tercar 66, Mighty Spearsman, Oyenk and Bulai69:
2 days ago I changed money at Permata Bank at the rate of US $1 = Rp.9,460. This afternoon the same bank only gave me Rp.9,350.
Banks are very selective, buying only good quality 2003 onward issued bills. However, money changers are more liberal (I know a money changer who will buy 1960s, 1970s, 1980s and 1990s issued bills). I changed small bills with very bad quality (no banks and money changers would want to buy them) yesterday at Rp.9,200. Anyway, anyone with this problem should let me know.

I'd like to add to that. They don't only want "good" quality, they want perfect quality bills - like new. They actually examine the damn things as if they were valuable baseball cards that would somehow be worth less if even slightly damaged. I travel all over the world and I've never seen any other country that scrutinizes dollars like that.
Of course, you can spend the local rupiah even after it's badly (and I mean badly) worn, but a US dollar has to be pristine. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. They will accept worn dollars for the $25 you pay for the entry visa, but once in the country, you need pristine new bills. Like JAD said, you can get a lesser rate for bills that aren't in brand new condition from non-bank money changers. But if you can, bring brand new bills.

Once I was inside the car park it didn't take me long to find out I should be upstairs.
What did I think of it? 'Low rent' would be a good way to describe it, but not necessarily in a bad way, the girls were not the beat out old has-beens I was expecting, they were reasonably young, friendly and not too bad looking. The rooms are basic and you worry about the blanket you're lying on as it probably isn't changed too often. There's no shower in the room although I was told they were available.
Would I go back? Actually yes, it's not CJ's nor even Blok M, but you pays your money and you takes your choice so it's one more addition to my list of places to go in Jakarta and I'd recommend anyone who hasn't been to try it out for themselves, you know what they say, a change is as good as a rest.
Thanks again for your kind help.
I have worked in many developing countries, and Indonesia is about the only one that I have seen that requires near-perfect dollar currency. I agree, very strange.
I'm making my first trip back to Jakarta soon after about a 4-5 year hiatus. I'm looking forward to shooting a little pool at Top Gun, chatting with the young ladies at Dee's place, and then heading back over to the Melawai area disco (I forget the name) after midnite to dance and find my date for the evening. Can a more recent monger let me know if that is that still a good schedule or approach for an evening in the Blok M area.
Since I have been away for such a long time, most of my local ex GF hotties are now seeing other guys. But I have contacted 3 of my favorites and all three still want to see me at night while I'm there (for a little fun of course). My apologies in advance to any of you who might possibly be their current beau, but I promise to take good care of them. :)
I promise to share my experiences on the board this time. For various reasons, I never wrote about my experiences in the past. I have some interesting approaches that work really well in Jakarta. But, to be honest, all you really have to do is kinda show up almost anywhere, and just start up a flirtatious fun conversation, and get their mobile number. I have done that in office environments, restaurants, hotels, malls, etc., and have had some amazing experiences with non-pros. On more than one occasion, I was the first guy they had ever been with. Oh, Jakarta is the best...

Potentially disturbing news for naughty hunters of the Atrium mall. One of my Atrium squeezettes informed me that for the last month the new head of mall security has implemented a crackdown on the working girls who trawl the mall. Girls who are seen in negotiation with punters or obviously stationing themselves to pickup customers are now being targeted. She said that a couple of her friends had already been nabbed by security and therefore abandoned Atrium as a working venue. Given the historic dirty reputation of the security staff for actually aiding punters and working girls, I really didn't think this was possible.
The targeting is across the board. Girls sitting at Cappuccino and Kopi Luaat who pick up locals/mideast customers. Sweety girls who sit at the game center in the Cinema 21. The MILF girls who sit near the food stalls on the 5th floor. Even girls who loiter outside. When I was there last week I was shocked to see this in action. I entered via the Mc Donalds and immediately spotted a group of 3 sweet young things going the opposite way around the kiddie rides. We made eye contact. I went up to the KFC on second floor to pick up some lunch and then spotted the girls looking at me from the railing. Sensing trouble if they kept standing there staring at me, I wanted to give them some money to buy drinks so they could sit with me. Just as I got up, a security guard came up behind them and escorted all three of them to the security post right there at the second floor.
I finished my meal and got an ice cream waiting at the railing for them to come out. They didn't appear for 10min so I did a quick walk to the doors leading to the parking garage where the security post is located. All three girls were sitting down there. When I later asked my squeezette what exactly is happening, she told me that girls who are nabbed have to give their personal details and they are told that if they are spotted trawling again, they will be banned permanently. There are also apparently plain clothes security making the rounds of places like Solaria and Cinema 21 to make it easier to spot girls on the game. The nabbings are more of a scare tactic, but it seems to be delivering its desired effect as I observed that the number of girls has dramatically dropped at the usual pickup spots.
All this being said, it may not be the end of the world for mall shoppers. I was able to pick up decent girls on both of my Atrium visits. There are still girls trawling, but the girls seem to be doubly cautious not to look like they are working (which is doubly difficult to do if they are talking with a foreigner). The biggest effect seems to have been on the lazy locals who monger from the tables at the 5th floor as well as the naughty Saudis who monger from Cappuccino... I saw so many of them walking around looking like they were trying to figure out where their usual easy prey had disappeared to.
Hopefully there will be some kind of regime change in the Atrium security apparatus, but sadly it looks like our sweet young things will be under fire for a while. Enjoy JKT, AsianRain

Thanks for the update. It's great when members share their experience. I hadn't known that Industri 9/11 has had a facelift. I will take new pics next time I stay at the Sheraton Media. Only some of the apartment rooms have attached bath/shower, so for some you have to walk outside and use the common bath, which is always a thrill when the place is busy. Thanks, AsianRain

It went like this.
My friend was drinking a lot. My friend orders a round of drinks. He gives CC to waiter. Waiter takes the card away. 10 minutes later he comes back asking my friend to pay the bill, assuming he'd be too drunk to remember. My friend sees the waiter talk to someone in a white shirt, who then leaves at a brisk walk out of the club (with the CC presumably). Manager is called. Waiters insist it is in my friend's pocket or he dropped it as he is drunk. My friend knows exactly what happened. Stalemate reached. Hotel promises to reimburse my friend for any fraudulent charges.

Thank you for your important and comprehensive report on the Atrium situation which is very irritating. Presumably, all the girls will now go somewhere else - the question is where? They won't go to the upmarket malls as they would be too conspicuous, I wonder if anyone has any ideas?

Asian Rain can your involved squeezette give information on that?
BTW, I saw some Atrium girls hanging around near TC. Would that be the place where they will escape to?
It happened last night, hehehe..
Been at the 6th floor last week, to check with two girls... They agreed to "take care" of my friend...
so last night they arrived 5 minutes before time ( that never happened to me before) to my place. Took a shower and got ready.
When my friend arrived, they were already waiting in my bedroom.
He entered the room and I havent seen him anymore for the next one and a half hours, hehehe..
In the meantime two other friends arrived. We crushed a 100ml viagra into powder and prepared a special pocari sweat.
the girls were sent off, we ate and drink something, off we were to meet the other guys and headed up north to 36.
booked a room, including girls and strippers.. Attached to the room is a bedroom, two bathrooms which were frequently visited during this night..
Will post some pics of the strippers and their action later
The most funny thing was my friend, which was telling everybody that he could go on and on and on and on and on... Thanks Viagra, hehehe
