Don't think Dave ever meant to do any harm, or that he is even a bad guy, but the unintended consequences of his actions did occur. I'm just back from spending 8 full days (and 2 partial days) in Medellin. And because a couple of you helped me when I had a few questions a few weeks ago before my trip, I'm now returning the favor and posting some fresh information for others to use.
Please accept my apologies in advance for the very-detailed nature of this trip report. I know many of you veteran mongers will find the following details very tedious. However, it's my opinion that traveling mongers want to know not only costs, but also the process you go through when you visit casas or strip clubs in Medellin. When you're armed with accurate information, you're less likely to be taken advantage of because you won't be walking into an establishment looking and acting like a deer in the headlights, LOL. So, here we go:
1) Fase II (Fase Dos): 7,000 to 10,000 COP taxi charge from Poblado. The entry fee is 20,000 COP. After you pay the security guard at the door, you will be quickly patted down / frisked. Beer is 17,000 COP and liquor is available (and costs more, of course). Do not try to sit next to the stage while drinking beer; you will be asked to move to the bar and told that sitting next to the stage is a privilege you earn when you buy a bottle of liquor. Girls occasionally dance on stage and will then circle the room asking for tips. You can politely decline or pay a small tip; 2,000 COP is common. Select your girl and pay the cashier at the bar 180,000 COP for 45 minutes. Exit the club and go next door (towards the right) with your girl to a large building with cabanas inside. The woman at the desk will charge you 5,000 COP for a condom but you are welcome to bring your own.
2) New Life: There is no sign that says "New Life" on the front of the building. The only noticeable characteristic of the business is a bright blue front door. You will be buzzed through this blue door and then through two metal grate doors as you walk down a short hallway. At the end of the hallway, climb the stairs; a male employee will motion for you to sit in one of several open rooms with other customers. The girls then walk through the rooms, shake your hand, and tell you their names. Bottled drinks are available for purchase as you wait to make your selection (bottled water = 2,000 COP). Tell the male employee the name of the girl that you want; he will get her and then you and her will go off to a room together. Negotiate what you want; 30 minutes = 40,000 COP. Of course, more time = more COP. When finished, pay the cashier for your girl (and the drink) and leave the same way as you came in, being buzzed out as you walk down the stairs and through the same doors you entered.
3) Barra Ejecutiva: 10,000 COP taxi charge from Poblado. There is no entry fee and no pat down / frisking from security at the entrance. Watch out for hustlers standing nearby, especially a guy who loudly claps his hands and speaks English, encouraging people entering Barra Ejecutiva to visit his club immediately next door. Go down a well-lit hallway into the club. Beer (Pilsen) 7,000 COP with Club Colombia (I think) 9,000 COP; liquor is also available. Grab a table and chair and sit wherever you want. Girls frequently dance on stage and then circle the room for tips (just like at Fase Dos). Again, 2,000 COP tip is common. Negotiate directly with the girls. Prices vary wildly; I was quoted 90,000 COP (for 30 minutes) by one girl and 70,000 COP and 80,000 COP (again, for 30 minutes) by two others. Select your girl and pay her; she will take the money to the cashier at the bar and get a condom (but like Fase Dos, you are free to bring your own). A security guard will open a metal door in the men's bathroom and you and your girl will walk through and then climb a tight, spiral metal staircase to the bedrooms upstairs. There are 8 rooms total, and if they are all occupied you may have to wait a few minutes. A male employee named "Lulo" watches the clock, knocks on the doors, and then cleans up a little when a room becomes available. Do the deed and then leave the same way you entered.
4) Sildenafil (Viagra and its generic equivalents) are available for purchase over-the-counter without a prescription. At Pasteur Farmacia, 2 tablets of 50 MG Viagra are 58,700 COP, while 1 tablet of 100 MG Viagra is 25,000 COP. 2 tablets of generic 50 MG Viagra is 5,600 COP or 18,000 COP (depends of the manufacturer), while 1 tablet of 100 MG generic Viagra is 5,900 (manufactured by Genfar and packaged as "Sildenafilo" in a small red and white box). The Viagra is, of course, imported while the generic versions are made by a Colombian manufacturer and another manufacturer. I purchased 20 tablets of the generic Genfar "Sildenafilo" and, to avoid the prying eyes and questions of US Customs, simply removed the tablets from their blister packs and put them in an Ibuprofen bottle. The friendly receptionist at my hotel told me he bought something called "Lobo" at a sex shop in Medellin; he claimed it worked better than Viagra. "Lobo," according to him, is ONLY sold in sex shops and costs 13,000 COP for two tablets.
So there you have it. Questions / comments are welcome from other ISG members. Hopefully this information will help some mongers cut out the middlemen who lurk on this board and advertise the girls that they want you to meet.
One final note: If you like clean facilities, go to Fase Dos. If you want a cheap fuck, go to New Life. And if you want to hang out with the locals and a real "working-man's" club, go to Barra Ejecutiva. Personally, I liked Barra Ejecutiva, even if their rooms upstairs were a little nasty LOL.
