It takes years and years to master it and, have no doubt, those bargirls are years ahead of you, . . . Always.

The way I approach it is by setting myself a budget, say I will aim for an LT (which includes BJ, FS, DATY, DFK and two pops before going to sleep and one pop in the morning) for a fee between 3000 and 4000 baht plus barfine and 1000 baht expenses (mainly drinks for her and me and perhaps some tips for serving girls or mamasans).

I then go to the places I think I might find someone to my liking, be it beer bars or agogos and have in my mind a list of "qualities", e. G. Small tits, long hair, trimmed pussy, not too skinny, speaks English fairly well, bubbly personality.

If I find someone who fulfills are my qualities and falls within my budget, I take her without further delay. Never ever think there will be someone better, cheaper, more sexy in the next venue: you are likely to end up alone in your bed that night.

If no-one answers my list of qualities, I go to the next place and will accept someone that fulfills all qualities but one. If again no success, I will look for someone with all qualities but two, . . . Wash, rince, repeat until successful. This system has always helped me very well.

The budget you set yourself protects you against grossly overpaying and the "decreasing quality method" almost guarantees you someone to your liking. There are actually better ways to choose that are statistically and mathematically proven to guarantee you a more optimal outcome, but I'm afraid if I explain those methods here, people will think I'm a freak.

And by reading I don't mean go back two pages, before my last trip to Pattaya I went back over 100 pages and read forward and I have spent over 6 cumulative months in Pattaya the last 8 years. There have been some great reports this last year so skim through the short posts and find some of the long trip reports. Read and you can learn the different options and prices available. For example all these places have different price points and different things to look out for: beach road, Soi 6, beer bars, soapie massages, insomnia, gogo bars, Soi metro, and the list goes on.

Almost all you need to know has already been written so go read and then when you have a specific question, ask away.

When are the dates for Songkran festival in Pattaya? Is it the following weekend after the events in BKK (Apr 12-15)?

This is of course very close to our mongering experience: you see a lovely in one bar, but you hesitate to take her since there is likely to be a better one in the next bar. But if you don't find that next more lovely one, it appears your first choice is now already taken by another punter.

So how to solve this problem?

It turns out to be quite simple (I spare you the underlying statistics).

Just go on your usual bar / agogo / club / disco / . . . Crawl and choose as you usually do. Interview likely candidates and give them a score. That is of course the hairy part and is highly individual. Your high score may not be my high score, but that doesn't matter provided you use a consistent scoring system during the same experiment and a higher score means the candidate is better in your eyes.

Remember the highest score among the first three or four (the actual cut-off point lies somewhere between 3 and 4, but one cannot do a "half interview") , but don't take any of these candidates. Just be cool and relaxed about this rule: if you meet a girl that gives you an instant hard-on and makes you almost cream your shorts just by looking into her eyes, by all means take her and f*ck the experiment and science.

Then continue your quest and keep on scoring next candidates until you find one that scores higher than the top score of the first three. That's the one to take.

It can be proven statistically that it is more likely than not that if you continue your search (and assume you cannot interview more than 10 candidates in one night) you will not find a better one. If I remember well, the odds are about 60 against 40 this method finds you the best candidate.

Of course you will agree it is a rather strange method: examining three candidates knowing you will not pick them. Though luck for those early birds, indeed and you will probably best move to another bar after each interview in order not to draw strange glances. Also it takes some effort and time (and money) that we cannot always invest.

But there is a short-cut possible!

Assuming the population of WG remains more or less the same during a certain period of time (say a few weeks maximum) [B]and[/B] you can keep your scoring system the same, then each next night you can simply skip the "first three interviews" and use the highest score of your first night as the threshold point for the next nights.

Mind you this method does not guarantee you end up with the best possible candidate, but it will guarantee you that your choice is likely to be better than making a random choice from a sequential list of candidates where the quality of the "next candidate" is an unknown.

Insightful and interesting. I heard the rule before to "establish the baseline using the first 3, then take the first one who exceeds that", but thought it was just an arbitrary rule of thumb, not an optimal statistical solution. For the math minded among us (there are some), would you mind posting a link or the name of the problem / paper to search for?

Of course, that presumes one wanting to find an optimal partner efficiently, and not enjoying the hunt itself.

It is not just about "establishing a baseline" only. The math / stats part comes in to calculate how big your sample for the baseline should be. Too large and you are more likley to find the optimal solution in your sample (and hence rejected); too small and you may end up with a too low threshold and pick a less than optimal winner.

Depending on the source this optimal base line sample is said to be either n/e or 1/(square root of n), with n being the size of the population you can check in one experiment. For a size n = 10 (my assumption of the maximum number you can check out in one evening), the optimal size is between 3 and 4. There is a subtle difference between the 1/e and 1/(square root of n): the former is for finding the [b]best[/b] candidate, the latter for finding a [b]good enough[/b] candidate, but for a population size of 10 both are between 3 and 4, so are actually the same as you cannot interview a fractional candidate. Let's say that 3 interviews establishes a base line for a "good enough" one, whereas 4 interviews will optimize your search for a "best" candidate.

In other news, things are slowly getting back to normal. Some hotties in Ibar last night one of which I took home for a very satisfying LT.
