Actually el Poblado is not that much like Laguito in CTG, except for there's a lot of gringos running around.
El Poblado does not have hardly any PFP scene, except of course the Mansion and Loutron massage place.
El Poblado is where los ricos (the rich people) live. Lots of eye-candy, but too stuck-up for my taste, I like the more humble chicas :)

Poblado: Tons of Gringos running around,, and the nicest eye-candy to be found in MDE, but in places where I usually get a second look from the chicas,, I was receiving the COLD shoulder, these people in POBLADO could care less if your gringo or how much money you "think" you have, these people all dress nice and have money and have nice cars. I felt like i was in BAL HARBOUR, or OCEAN DRIVE, these are two luxe places here in MIAMI. TOO TOO stuck up for my taste as well and that being said its almost a turn-off which you almost dont want to even bother with the hassle. I agree that Poblado is completely different from Laguito.
I too like Poblado because of all the nice eye-candy but would also agree that cities like Cali have friendlier chicas. Medellin as a whole is not really my favorite city in Colombia either. Truth be told, as far as city living goes I much rather prefer Bucaramanga or Armenia. Much more calmer in theses cities.
I do like the Mansion/Castillo setup and will always suggest staying there for newbies and veterans alike. Unlike Loutron's, for example, one can chill out by the pool at the Mansion while feeling out (or up) a Paisa or two or three...

If you like Calenas you probably like Barranquilleras and vice versa. Many say Paisas are hot. I just don't see my willie standing up very much for them. Every other chica I pass in the street in Cali or Barranquilla gets my blood flowing. But Medellin... well even in Poblado, it just doesn't do it for me. But like Ricker... it's something about the ass and triguena skin color... and I like petite gals as well. "Parse" is used in Medellin, like the word "Pana" in Venezuela, hear it a lot in Maracaibo. Used to mean good friend.

Actually I'm back from Cali again but the routine I like doing while in Cali on Sundays is pretty much the same.
I like taking a gal (either pre-arranged or the one that stayed over from Saturday night) out for Sancocho up the moutain the locals call Kilometer 18. There are many restaurants to eat at and I've been to 4 of them now. I like the drive up the mountain for the fresh cool air and the views. It gets a little cool up there so it's always good to bring a jacket or sweat shirt for the girl(s).
One of my favorite restaurants is Las Neblinas. They have a good menu besides the Sancocho de Pollo but it is not that they have great Sancocho that I like them because they don't. Personally so far I much prefer the Sanchoco I've had at Simon Parrillada back in the city over any of the mountain places. However, I come back to Las Neblinas or stop there even when I go to another spot for one thing, their fantastic Arepa de Choclo. To be more pricise, theis is actually an arepa rellena con queso y mantequilla (arepa filled with cheese and butter).
The arepa is made from ground corn meal and water made into a batter which they spoon into little griddles. The griddles are then covered and put on a stove where they actually bake rather than cook.
The baked arepa is the cut in half and filled with fresh queso de vaca (cow milk cheese) and butter. The result is a flavor festival in your mouth unlike any other.
Like I said I sometimes stop there just for the arepas de choclo even when I don't go to eat. I guess the women know me pretty good by now because as soon as the ladies see me they start making me fresh arepas either to eat there or "para llevar" (to go).

I'm new here and new to Colombia although I've been checking out another board for some time. Cubanut, who posts occasionally at the other board, emailed me some useful tips for my first Cali trip last November. Thanks again CN! Will actually be in Medellin for the 1st time (and maybe a few days in Bogotá) the week of Memorial Day. Maybe I'll run into some of you there. I'm considering staying at the Castillo but if someone can vouch for an apartment, then I might go that route.
As for the language thing, yeah I noticed both in the DVDs I have of Colombian movies and the paisas I met in Cali. . . that these folks have their own peculiar "dialect" with a lot of unique jargon. I speak semi-fluent Spanish but I have to admit, I had to go over some of those DVDs like "Rosario Tijeras" several times before I could really pick up what the characters were saying. I'm from New York, but I don't hang out or live anywhere near the neighborhoods in Queens or New Jersey where Colombians have gathered, so most of this jargon was completely new to my ears.
"Marica" is the Colombian way of saying "maricón" (faggot), but it's amusing how certain insult words can be used amongst Colombian friends when addressing or talking to each other. "Huevón" seems to be another popular one. Literally, that means big egg, but basically you're being called a dummy. :-)
"Parse" and "parsero" seem to be slang for friend but I suspect Winner71 is right in that it's not used as much outside the paisa region (Antioquia); didn't hear it in Cali, at least not from the paisa chicks I spoke with.
"Parse" reminds me of "asere" which is friend in Cuba, but you'll almost never hear that outside Cuba, (very rare at least in New York, maybe Miami's different). In NYC, I'm much more likely to hear "socio" or "compay" or maybe even the Spanglish "broder"
As for "bacano" that's the Colombian way of saying cool. In the Spanish Caribbean, New York, and Miami, you're much more likely to hear "chévere" which actually comes from Cuba. For money, "plata" seems to be just as common, if not more often used than "dinero." Also, "que más" or "que hubo" seem to be much more common greetings than "como estás" or "que tal"
My personal favorite has to be "culicagao" which means an unclean ass. It usually refers to little kids who run around with their butts dirty, but it can be used in other situations as well. If your chica calls you this, you've screwed up somewhere! :-)
I personally don't like to use too much slang because I probably would sound ridiculous, like I'm trying too hard to fit in or sound like one of the locals. I'm sure they can tell right away that my Spanish is from somewhere else. Still, it's handy to know some of the jargon.

The EURO on XE.com is almost 2900, im wondering if anybody knows who gives the best exchange rates, Im sure the exchange rates at tourist places EA, Chipe Chape or Palmeto are shitty because they are tourist areas. One of the great things about Cali is that even though it is hot and if you don't want to wait around for the evening breeze you can escape the heat in ~15 minutes with a quick drive up into the hills. Very relaxing.
I miss the arepas de choclo right now. And champus, cholados. Unfortunately I'm stuck on the road for a month and won't make it back to Cali for another month. Thanks for the memories.
Also I'll probably be in Cali for the next puente which is May 21.
