A lot safer.
For 99% of people going to HK, taking that walk, is about the worst choice you can make in a visit to Tijuana. Of all the money you will throw around in Tijuana, to save 3, or 4 bucks, and risk getting sliced, shot, robbed, bothered by police, . Most cabs will take 4 bucks if you show him its your last 4 bucks. Hk limo will probably take you without VIP if you give the guy 2 bucks who arranges the limo. Uber is 2 bucks st times, it goes higher when busy. Walking back to the border in the dark is probably more dangerous than walking the dark streets 2 blocks south of Hong Kong at 2 am hoping to find a street girl. Most of you will hesitate to give your phone and wallet up when robbed, if you don't see a gun or knife. Once you hesitate its then that the robber will tackle and slice you. So will his 4 friends you didn't even see.

The only time I have walked back was one of my first times and I accidently spent too much and ran out of money for a taxi at 2 am and had to walk my way back by memory. I was so fucking scared LOL, but I am used to go to Juarez a lot to party and I think I have pretty good situational awareness and I tried to make myself look sketchy as well to blend in lmfao. Got back safely.

You make no sense as usual.[/QUOTE]Not walking to the border after dark is good advice. It's a cheap Uber ride, and even for the cost of a cab it's good insurance. Being in a dark and isolated place in Tijuana is not the best idea.

Think they made a movie about a guy who did something similar, he was returning home by running through the jungle with about 6 or 7 guys with knives running after him in Mexico. Apocalypto movie by Mel Gibson. You might want to watch it, though it is in the original Mexican language of Nahuatl. Might get some pointers on how to escape the deportee rateros who like to hunt tourists walking around at night. . .

Cheapskates LOL. Walk through one of the most dangerous cities on the planet just to save 5 bucks? I don't believe anyone is that cheap. It has to be because they just want to.

They also haggle over 100 pesos with street hoookers. And they stalk desperate drug addicted SWs with needle marks, because bar girls are too expensive for them.

It has to be because they just want to.[/QUOTE]When I was a SD resident I used to walk from the border entrance across the bridge to zona norte (and back) no matter what time of day or night all the time- sometimes while pretty drunk. That was in the late nineties tho! Having walked thru dangerous Nairobi streets, Tijuana was a breeze. The situation has reversed these days. That move would just be asking for trouble, esp with so many desperate migrants down there now.
I have been going to Tijuana for 20 years and have never been robbed, beaten, choked out, or fought anyone. The closest I came to hanging out with a criminal was at Ceasars strip club on revolution back in the day (miss that place). I was talking to this white guy there and grabbing ass with him. I told him I was laid off from my job, and was getting about 300 a week unemployment. He asked me if times were tough, and I said yes like I always do. I always pretend I'm poor. He had no idea I had about 20 k saved up at that time and was actually enjoying my layoff for 6 months. He then asked me if I wanted to transport drugs to America for 1500 dollars. I told him he was nuts and wasn't going to risk 10 years in prison for 1500 bucks or any amount for that matter. He said "don't you need money". I said yes but not that bad. He said don't worry and that it was easy. I said if it's so easy why don't you do it since you're from San Diego. I'm still waiting for his answer.
About 10 minutes later I decided to leave and not associate with a drug dealer in Mexico even if he was American. Probably had warrants in the US. The strange thing is I never saw him again in all my trips after. I always wonder what happened to that guy. I really miss Tijuana from the early 2000's. Revolution was so fun and a change of pace from downtown. I miss peanuts and beer, Madonas, Ceasar strip club. There were so many places to go back then and they were all packed.

Just crossed into Tijuana. I think they are buckling down on essential travel. They were sending everyone to secondary. The agent said from now on everyone needs proof if they have a medical or dentist appointment. Didn't even offer me the $30 visa. I gave him a sob story and he let me through.
I wonder if they are still accepting the FMM / Visa. ? I will very irritated if they do not let me visit Tijuana after spending $30 on the FMM / Visa. I wonder what sort of proof they want for a visit to a dentist. ?
