Hello, I wasn't sure of the proper area to ask this question, but here goes. I've been searching this forum as well as the internet and I can't find a definitive answer. I'm studying spanish and will be coming to DR in October. I wanted to try to get ahead of the game, so I'm really studying Spanish hard, but have been told that the Spanish spoken in DR may have a different dialect than what I'm listening to (Learning Spanish like Crazy audio series). Can someone who actually lives there or someone who has spent plenty of time visiting there, please answer the below:

How do Dominicans pronounce:

Y as in Yo (I) - do they pronounce it as "Yo" or as "Jo"?
R as in Ahora - do they pronounce that as "a-OHR-ah" or "a-O-DAH"?
ll as in calle - do they pronounce that as "kah-YAY" or "kah-JAY"?
v as in ventana (window) - pronounced as ven-tah-nah" or ben-tah-nah?

And I'm interrested in Carribbeadialect. And remember people on the north coast speaks different than the ones on the south coast and so on.

And there are all the small pronounsacion things like loosin the s's at the end of a syllable. Like "me guta la cacada" = "me gusta la cascada" (I like the waterfall) or even more dominicano = la cacada ta vacana

And the "r" at the end of a syllable pronounced as a "l" fx. Gordo = goldo (fat)

Or ask boricua thats some dialect for you Puerto rican dialect is even worse hehehen slang and

While in the DR I've always heard LL pronounced as YAY. Not JAY like MDE or SHAY like BA/MDV. I asked in Dominicana friend here in the states and she said she's heard JAY, but most people say YAY. Either way you'll be understood.

That was very helpful, as I work on my studies. It's good to know that for the most part, I don't have to be as concerned with the exact dialect as I thought.

Only for May 11 and May 12 (some routes are exempt). Last I looked they had availability to Puerto Plata from New York (JFK), one way for $10 dollars, leaving May 12 (you still have to pay the taxes and airport fees).

When I head to pick up my car at the car rental, I take my phone out to call one of my friends and it tells me that the card has no balance and has not been activated. I head back to the aiport, park my car and walk up to the store, I tell the guy at the counter about the issue, he looks at me like I must be drunk or high. He takes my phone and checks it and tells me "Sometimes you have to add an extra amount of money to activate or sort of kick in the system to work" when he tells me that, I just wanted to spit in his face. Seriously, when the fuck are these people (people selling you something or providing service) going to stop this shit? So of course I just took my phone and walked away after he fixed the problem.

I checked into the V Centenario and everything was real smooth and fast, I had a little issue with the front desk around later on at night. I went to Acropolis and picked up one of my amigas, we went to eat something light, some coffee and dessert, nothing big. We headed back to the hotel and I parked the car in the underground garage, we went up to the elevators and hoping that security didn't give me any problems, but everything was good till later on.

After a while I went to drop her off cause nothing happened, since this was the first time meeting (met her on hi5) and then I called one of my other amigas that I knew for sure was going to give me ass. I headed back to her apartment around 12:30am we stayed there talking shit, she took a shower and we went back to the hotel, we didn't stay there because her cousin was there.

When we head back to the hotel, it was around 1am or so and as we're coming up the stairs, I see a security guard in his suit posted there with his radio, he then stops us and asked me if I had registered the young lady, of course I tried to tell him that she was only going to be in the room for about 10 minutes but he redirects me to the front desk.

An asshole at the front desk tells me that there was going to be a charge for visitors, after arguing with him for about 10 minutes and telling him that I had called Intercontinental before and they told me visitors were free, he proceeds to charge me $28 for my visitor, I told him that I was going to inquire about the charge with Intercontinental, this asshole then places a $400 hold on my card, meaning that I had 2 holds on my card, the charge for the room and the incident charges and this new $400 charge that he tells me that "he see's no authorization hold on my room for incidental charges' I didn't continue to argue with him but when I came back I placed a complaint with Intercontinental.

So my advice is, if anyone is staying at the Centenario, you can take up amigas to your room during the day when security is not around, but I'm guessing that after a certain time at night that's when security starts to get strict. And I'm guessing that if come up through the under ground garage and do that, then you won't have a problem, because I tried it 3 times with my amiga that I met on hi5 and I was never told anything.

My amiga from hi5 and I ended up making out for a good part of Sunday, for some reason this chick didn't want to give me any ass, but she did give me some real good head, to me that was kind of stupid, because if she gave me head, but did not want to give me ass, then that makes me scratch my head. Can anyone tell me why a chick would do that? Give me head but no ass? I have never used sim cards in Dom Rep, I have no clue how activation works for a sim card.

Intercontinental V Centanario is in a good location, some rooms have balconies. A police guy I know in Santo Domingo told me some Portuguese guy lost $700 thousand dollars in the casino there and afterwards jumped from his balcony and killed himself. Room rates at the V Centanario are about $150 per night. That hotel tried to charge you a $28 dollar guest fee, that would annoy me.
