There is no real science to picking the best performing chick. They all surprise you at the end, wether a good surprise or bab surprise. My wingmen have the same problem. I have read other reports from guys that been to DR and they also get duds.

I'd so love to go back to my days of 2-3 Rio trips a Winter. But I really dread that overnight flight. The DR and Colombia are just so much easier.

Regarding the exchange rate, when I first started going to Rio in Feb 2000, the exchange rate was 1. 70 BR per USD. That's right, it was less favorable to visitors than it is now. However, the prices were WAY less. 80-90 Real for a hot gdp out of Help. Not much more for a good Termas session. It's several times more expensive now, even though the Real is actually weaker against the USD. 2002-2004 was the period when we got really spoiled with the crazy panic in the Real. USD/Real exchange rates well over 3.0 and the local Real prices hadn't taken off yet.

Especially true for P4P around the world. You also have to look at Brazil as an "experience". Ruth's Chris (Rio) vs. Outback Steakhouse (Sosua). Point me in the direction to where you can find women built like any of these women pictured:

You also have to point out that Colombia can be just as expensive as Rio. Look at the places Barry rents out. All luxury apartments. Some even go for more than $125 per night. Look at the prices for a room at either HMP 1 or HMP 2. Most of the guys here do not speak even passable Spanish, so if they went to Colombia they are paying $80-$90+ for a room at the Mansion, and almost $80 a pop to a Mansion chica ($130-$155 for TLN). Guys in this forum are complaining about the difference of $12 bucks (1000 vs. 1500RD) , so Colombia would absolutely break those who are that price sensitive.

Casas are the only real deals in Medellin. Not every guy is a Casa guy, nor knows how to navigate the casa scene. Plus you have to add in taxi fare to anywhere outside of Poblado. Guys here are used to walking to everything and only paying for a taxi to Sosua and back to the airport once they leave. Fase Dos, La Isla, Luna Lunera, San Diego Grill, Facebook chicas are all at or close to what you would pay in Rio. When you've got to pay 150,000COP to the house at Luna Lunera, then 250,000COP to the chica as her fee (if you are doing the take out option) , things get expensive fairly quickly.

Colombia was actually an "upgrade" for me. That's why it has been so damn hard to get back to the DR. I do plan to return, but I will most likely not be to Sosua though. And Rio is definitely getting worked into the mix.

My "problem" with Rio now is more the overnight flight than the expense. I don't bounce back from those all night flights like I used to. Colombia and the DR are just so much more convenient.

Thailand used to be my 2nd favorite place (after Rio of course). But I flat-out won't do that flight again, even if the Baht goes to 100 to the USD.

I met this nice group of mongers in my last trip, and we used to hang out on the strip at night, one night I saw one of them setting with a Dominican kid (something like 16-18 yrs old) , he invited me to set with them, and this kid was trying hard to talk to me and act as if he is already my buddy, my friend went to the washroom and this kid drank have of his beer bottle, later I told him and he thought no problem, and he told me that he is a good friend who met on the beach and to trust him and so, later that night this kid came to me and ask for money to take the bus and visit his family. I gave him a 100 pesos just to cut the crap, later I asked everybody in the group and this kid told each one of them the same story and asked for the bus money. So, I let all the group knows about it and to watch out, and my friend still think its ok and he is a good kid and he is just poor and need money, you know some people are just idiots, anyway, couple days later I'm walking with a girl on the strip and this kid come and ask me where I'm going, and he walk with us as if we don't know where we are going and he is showing us the way, then he ask for money for helping us to get there, WTF, that was it for me, I refused and told him to play someone else and to leave us alone, he got angry and we were about to start a fight but the girl shouted at him some Spanish and he left. From that time I know that its good to have a wing-man or a group of mongers to watch out for each other, but just be careful because there is more shit that comes from an idiot friend who doesn't listen or learn than from an enemy.

Your in Sosua. Everyone their is trying to hustle some pesos one way or another. They are poor. Its a third world country. I would not recommend starting a fight with any locals their. Mr P was acting as if he really was knowledgeable but in the end he was simply lost (figuratively and literally). One time we went to a bar and as I was negotiating with a chica Mr P raised the price. He was jealous that I could speak the language, he really could not, and that he was always overpaying for everything (chicas, food, drinks, etc. I tried correcting him, to help him out, but it was only pissing him off. Now I just leave guys like this alone). The chicas looked at him and started requesting all sorts of things from him. I took the better looking chica home (she looked just like Mariah Carey, only a bit slimmer! [I kid you not]).

Mr P ended up overpaying and did not have the intelligence of using me to help him get a lower price for the other chica. Afterwards whenever we saw the chicas on the strip they would totally ignore us. He could not understand why. I did. They totally took him for a ride. The danger was that they were trying to take me for a ride. I had to control the damage. One of the dangers of being around such people is trying not to fall into their bad habits.

When his friend Mr S showed up we traveled to another side of the DR. They made arrangements for the cab. When he arrived I asked P and S what the cost of the cab would be. They did not have any idea (I always negotiate before taking a cab because left up to these cabbies they will bankrupt you). When we arrived on the side of the highway to get off not only did S overpay the cabbie but he tipped the driver! (In hindsight I have to laugh at this).

After this when the trunk was opened all of a sudden all these strange Dominicans started grabbing at the luggage. I told them straight out not to touch my bags (maybe I am weird but I do not like total strangers grabbing at my luggage. This is a bad habit I simply cannot break). While all these strangers are walking away with the luggage of the other two (who did absolutely nothing to stop these guys!) I asked P and S if these were employees of Caribe Tours, the bus we were to be taking. They responded in the negative and when I further questioned them they explained that these were workers for another van line going our way. I then had to chase the Dominicans to get P and S's luggage. After consulting the other two guys I talked down the price for the other line and we boarded it. Along the way P and S started talking loud, not realizing that everyone else in the van was either quiet or speaking in a low voice. Then S mentioned about being viewed as a 'dumb gringo. ' This is definitely not something I would say in a van full of Dominicans. The locals might not be able to speak English but they do know what a 'dumb gringo' is. After this P started making negative comments about the Catholic Church! A definite no no in a country that is over 80% Catholic (and called the Dominican Republic, after the Catholic Dominican order). Also, I do not make negative comments about the religious beliefs of others. When we reached a fork in the road we needed to get off and take another van going to the left. Well, the guys I am with should know better and before you know it we went straight ahead (basically, we got lost. It was easy to tell since there were signs along the fork of the road). I had enough and told the guys to go on their own. I just stayed in the town next door. I was willing to help them out a week later, to get to the next town, but in hindsight I should have just ignored them. When they text messaged me I did bring it up to them that they got lost but they denied it (not only did I notice but a Dominican on the van was concerned and reminded me to tell them. I explained to her that the other two would not listen to me and would only argue!). We did bump into each other in another town and I tolerated them and was courteous, but once they left and moved on to a third town, one tried to contact me but I just ignored him.

This reminds me of another time I was walking down the street with L, a friend of a friend. While on the sidewalk I notice two Haitian guys walking past me, furtively looking behind. I knew something was going down, said to myself 'oh shit' and looked quickly behind. There was a Dominican with his hand tucked along the side of his leg, as if he was hiding a gun. Whether he did or not I was not hanging around to find out. I grabbed L by the elbow and told him that something is going down now and we needed to get out of the way as quickly as possible. Instead of listening to me he just stopped and started confusedly looking left and right (I was already crossing the street since that left and right stunt could have cost him. Hard to believe L works as a police officer. Talk about being out of touch with reality). He finally crosses and before you know it a big fight breaks out. In fact, the club nearby closed the doors so it would not spill into the bar and dance floor.

L decided to stand behind a tree. I tried to further look out for him but he just got angry because he wanted to film the whole thing! I just left him and walked over to the casino at the end of the block. L did not understand that the club that closed the doors had a shootout six months before (I should know. I was at the bar drinking, hitting on a chica, heard the gunshots, and the dance floor cleared out, a mob charging our way. I grabbed the chica and we made a mad dash out the bar).

I later talked to D about his friend Ls behavior. D could only shake his head and say 'L is always getting into trouble. ' D advised me to leave him alone since one day L will learn when he gets a beer bottle to his head. D had seen it many times. Sometimes it is better to leave some people alone since their actions might jeopardize your safety!

On another occasion I met Mr A. This was his maiden voyage and we were sitting in a restaurant when a small kid was trying to get our attention. Mr A, feeling sorry for the kid, gave him a slice of the pizza we were eating. I said to him that he should not have done that. He became angry and answered 'what do you want me to do, let that kid starve to death? ' I responded that the kid will call over one of his friends and before you know it you will have to deal with two, if not more kids, begging you. Sure enough the kid brings over one of his friends. He gives this other kid a pizza. I mention to A that now we have a problem because sometimes these kids will start following us. I added that some tend to steal, if not from A then from another customer sitting at another table. Finally, many restaurants do not want these kids bothering their customers. It is simply bad for business. When doing something one needs to think about how it impacts the people around you. I later showed my friend how to deal with this situation. We had extra food left over. They packed it up and as we walked down the street I saw a kid and just give him the bag. The kid looked confused (which was good and my intention) , he took the bag, opened it up, and by the time he finished eating it, me and my buddy were already down the block and making a turn (my friend's path is paved with good intentions, and I love him dearly, but one still needs to use discretion!). A now lives in the Dominican Republican and can now teach me a thing or two (we both laugh at this. He was the rookie and now he is the master!).

When I went to Colombia I had a couple thousand with me. My backup was my bankcard. My other backups were two credit cards. I learned early on in the game not to depend on a bankcard that could lock me out when in another country (I had sent an email to my bank stating that I was leaving the country and going to Colombia, as well as calling them several times while in Colombia. Would you believe it the bank still locked me out. The bank worker even admitted that they had made a mistake. (I didn't need the money, but I always take precautions, just in case. Nothing worse than to be in a foreign country without money.).

My wingman, D, was just depending on his bankcard and was locked out several times. I agreed to lend him some money but this was a mistake. Instead of using discretion he decided to go twice to the most expensive Cat House in Colombia. He was overpaying for chicas, buying bubbly wine and champagne, long stem roses, and bought Batman and Robin outfits from the States and giving it to the chicas (the outfits cost from $60-$80 a piece). I could go on and on but it only annoys me to think about it. This guy even spoke Spanish fluently so he should have been able to navigate. I was fortunate in that I cut off giving him money early on. In this situation being alone would have been better than having a wingman.

Some use arrogance, disguising it for knowledge, while others are mistake prone, ignorant, and if you are not careful and aware, can get you hurt; and then there are those who simply do not know. And we all have encountered, at least once, the person who travels short on money, or spends it all early on the trip and does not have much left at the end, depending on the charity of other mongers to cover up for their own carelessness.

When it comes to wingmen they come in two categories: they are either great guys or great fools. Great guys I can hang with, learn from and they learn from me but with great fools I move away from and would rather be alone.

I hear you, I have been there, although not in the same spot thu; I came from one of this fucked up poor and corrupted countries (Egypt) so I know lots about it from birth, when I was in high school I was working in construction and I was carrying bags of sand (wight 50Kg) to the 5-12 floor, 12 hours/day , just to help my dad who never complained or asked me to work, I was doing it behind his back so I don't hurt his feelings as a man who can support his family.

Anyway, one day I'm coming back from work and I saw a kid crying that he is hungry and need money to eat, I told him, well I'm hungry too and I was going to a restaurant to eat, come with me and I will buy you dinner.

He asked me, what are you buying, I said a beans with hummus sandwich, and he said, can I get the cash and buy it for myself, and I said, fuck no, so he laughed and said that he eat shawarma (a sort of donair) every day, and I'm a loser.

So anyway, some of this kids might eat your lift over pizza but their final goal is your pocket, this is their actual job, same as lots of girls who can break even when working 14 hour/day in a shitty job, or just open their legs for couple hours and make 10 times the money, so moral is very expensive, and when you pick up a girl from the street don't fucken give me a lesson about honesty, fuck I hate idiots :)
