However, bars are tricky because if it is a regular bar women are usually there with their male friends or with girlfriends. If they are with their girlfriends they do not want to be seen as a GDP. And, because of the overall environment, this is not a comfortable place for GDPs and they may be told by management and patrons to take their business elsewhere. It is an interesting dynamic. I have seen girls who are very brazen and flirty in the termas suddenly clam up when in a regular bar. My thoughts are you are better to stick to real GDP bars in Lido or hit the beaches and the streets. The exception is if you are going to be in Rio for a longer period of time, then you can establish yourself and the girls no longer look at you as just another Gringo trying to get lucky. The usual caveats about actually speaking Portuguese and having game apply.

You should never pass up an opportunity to smile at a girl and hope for a reaction. It takes just a bit of game and some simple Portuguese to see if the girl is giving off the vibe.

In the good ol' days (2000's), I remember picking up a young store clerk working on Nossa Senhora that I couldn't take my eyes off. She kept smiling back.
