Overall, although the drink pricing is mercenary, the BF situation can be managed to a reasonable level. I agree with other posters, however, that the quality is not much different than EDSA.

Stayed recently for five days at the Shang - my summary:-

Havana Cafe:- Nice selection here but you have to put the work in. Some appear to be freebies looking for western men while others are in the business but still expect a drink or two to be bought for them before they will jump in the sack. Rate was on average 3000. On a couple of nights I found it easier to sit next door at starbucks and use my eyes to pick a target.

Greenbelt in General: - This shopping mall confuses the hell out of me with it's modular design. If you walk around the entrance to Greenbelt 3 there are FL you can choose from, to me quality is low so I didn't partake. Also, walking around the front of Havana Cafe area you will get a lot of looks - but again, I found most to be of lower quality.

Hard Rock:- Seems to be a group of girls work this place that all know each other. Quality is lower but they are friendly as hell and not too pushy. Was tempted to sample a cousin of regular girl who was new on the job but didn't want to take the risk and put the time into educating her, so I went with one who knew the business. Damage was 2500. A general observation, many of these girls wear their clothes well and do not look so good once clothes are removed - of course, if you drink enough none of this will matter.

Starbucks across from Shangri-la :- This used to always be a great place for me but was disappointing this time around...maybe the security guards move them on.

Gloria Mall:- You can walk around the levels here as well as outside the mall in the square and follow up on any looks you get..damage seems to be around 2000..seems hit and miss to me.

Burgos:- Tried only Rogues this time around. I think bar fine was 1600 and damage 2000 - drinks seemed reasonable. High quality selection of girls and had all time top 10 experience with the one I selected. Happy hour runs up until 10 i think from memory.

My recommendation:- Walk down to Havana Cafe or Greenbelt for dinner and see how the selection looks, you will find everything from the absolutely stunning to the "not so good". Wait around to the band starts and then if it's all too much grab a cab to Burgos and select from one of the bars. My only footnote is that the Burgos bars seem more mercenary than those I have been known to frequent in Bangkok. You will be hassled quite a lot for drinks unless you are firm in knocking them back initially - once you do that it's fine and you can just buy drinks for the girl you select.

3000 to 2500 is because that is the range you negotiated in. 1000 is all you need to pay or walk way.

Green Belt 3 is worked as follow. Start from the bridge from LandMark (right at the entrance to Greenbelt 3. There is a little park area with benches. Walk through there. Or look for a girl just sitting on the cement pilars at the car drop off (they pilars have these cirles where you can sit). I met a girl there once said, "Hi, who are you waiting for? " She said, "You". That was a pretty subtle.

I also met three 7-11 works here aguementing their income. One of the best catches I had. I only picked 2 of the 3 but it was a great experience. To quote the commercial, "Thank heavan for 7-11". I mean they were 1000 each but they treated it like date.

So walk along the outside of Greenbelt 3 towards Havana. Look at the benches. If the girls are sitting there they may be freelancers. If they are rich girls (you can tell by the clothes, bags, etc.) they are not FL. If they are just average or trying to look rich. They are your FL. My favorite question is, "Is there a place to get ice cream here. " The answer is like duh 10 meters behind you which leads you to say. Oh. Can I buy you some.

Then go to the little park across from Havana. This is where I hang. There are always girls here. I've made eye contact with them and had them follow me up the stairs to level 2 or just simple sit in the little cirl across from Havana. There will be some choices if it is late enough in the evening (after 10 PM). Stay firm at 1000 and move on.

I cannot stand the smoking of Havana.

If you REALLY hate someone, go to Havana and take a table near the stairs close to Star Bucks. This is where the lady boys hang. Maybe you can get that drunk guy you hate to have an experience that he won't soon forget.

Obviosly Greenbelt 1, 2 and 4 are not places to meet anyone.

Hardrock in the back are old over priced has-beens as is the case with Conways. Outside the Star Bucks near Shangri-la in that open area between Land Mark and Shangri-la there are sometimes girls too.

Apologies for the newbie type question. I used to go to Makati often on the company expense account but next weekend I am coming on my own dime. Hence a couple of questions:
(i) are they reputable taxis out of the airport to get into makati ? Or is it really not safe and more advisable to use the taxi service provided by hotel (about 2400P, damn!)
(ii) if there are regular taxis and they are reliable and safe, how much would they typically charge from the airport to Makati (Renaissance hotel).

I appreciate the pointers.

The queue is located to the left as you exit the terminal after customs. Don't worry, there is adequate signage to guide you there.

The taxis are yellow colored, factory fresh and government accredited. The attendant will ask you where you are going and fill that in on a slip of paper before handing you off to the driver, so no misunderstandings about where you are going. The fare was PHP200 to the Cherry Blossoms in old Manila, just about what any old taxi would have been.

Previously I would have gone up to the departures area and flagged a taxi dropping off, but this new service makes that trek unnecessary.

I woudl expect the fare to Makati to be circa PHP350-400 depending upon traffic. YMMV. Incidentally, I HATE the Renaissance in Makati due to their obtrusive registration policy for guests (have to stop at the desk, show her ID and make her fill out/sign form). For a 5-star hotel that knows how to treat monger guests in Makati, try the Mandarin Oriental. Never a hassle there - very friendly and discreet.

By the way, if anybody has a pic of the new taxi or taxi queue, please let me know. I took a pic when I was in Manila last time but lost it by accident.

Even with traffic, it should only be around 200p and not 350-400p. The yellow taxis definitely have made a difference vs. before having to deal with all the low lifes trying to rip you off.

No flames here, just FYI. Spent several years in Manila as hotel GM.

The reason most hotels require the girls to register is to prevent rip offs. Many, many times guys bring girls in and if the hotel does not require registration there is a greater likely hood she can "slip a mickey" to the John's drink and make off with his valuables or worse.

Our SOP was to have the girl register, keep her ID and when she left we call the room and talk to the John. "Mr. XXX your guest is leaving is everything alright?" If all is ok she goes, if no answer, security is dispatched to the room to check.

It is a security issue, pure and simple.

Yeah I like those type of hotels too. That checks to see if everything is ok before letting the girl leave. Last time I experienced this was at the Wild Orchid in AC about 8 months ago. Truth be told I have been lucky over the years. I have only been ripped off once by a WG ( Romanian/Dubai) I wasn't sleep, she just conned me out of 60 bucks so I can't complain.

I guess to make this a legitimate post, I should describe my two short days in Manila. I arrived to the Intercontinental around 5 am on Saturday. Check-in obviously wasn’t ready so I had to pay a half-day rate to drop off my bags and get a few hours of sleep. It was my first stay in the Intercontinental, and overall, I would recommend it to anyone. It’s right across the street from the Glorietta mall and very close to Greenbelt. The go-go bars at P. Burgos are about a 10-15 minute walk away. The staff was very (girl) friendly and didn’t give my any trouble bringing my girl inside.

After my powernap, I decided to check out the mall and then visit the Philippine National Museum at Rizal Park. I tried to make it a point to do at least one non-mongering activity while I was here. At the mall, I got some looks from some of the girls in the department store, but decided not to pursue as I felt they really weren’t my cup of tea. (I should preface this by saying that I’m very “picky” about the girls I go after.
