Note also that the quote does not say the cephalosporins are the "last line of defence", but rather the only ones that still work both "reliably and inexpensively".

Gonorrhea has developed resistence to various treatments for decades. So this is a very old story. And they always had something else to deal with it.

Specially if you had early stages of an infection. 3 days might just result in the bactteria "getting used to" before they die.
