I read ahead before my passing through Kiev. I chose a gal from gia.com.ua. I chose Polina then realized she was "on sale" at the Hot Offers page on the site. Pretty funny: a sale on pussy, but who's complaining.

Ukraine's got to be poorer than Latvia or Poland but prices in Latvia/Poland still start at $35/40, usually non-English speakers, English speakers start at $45/50 and they usually have to be pretty stunning to get over $65 unless they're working the hotel lobbys. In Poland they're mostly independent too. They usually share an apartment with other girls, but that means they have expenses too, which you don't have if you're spending your time in a mongerer's apartment. If, as reports here say, girls may only get $30/40 out of $100 that's being paid out, how come the part-timers are looking for so much? Of course it has to do with Moscow, but I think mentality and system and even prices are not so different (lower in Kiev in any case, but the choiche in Moscow is enormous).

The basis for my pricing is this:

1) The last time I was in Ukraine was last week, however, Kiev, 2 years ago. In Kiev, I could always negotiate 30 dollars, but that was 2 years ago. In Warsaw, another eastern capital city, you can pay between 25 and 50 dollars, if you are not going for internet girls that have ridiculous prices.

2) Ukraine is very poor. The poorest country in Europe. I have traveled all over Ukraine on my own many times, not staying in hotels etc, but villages. The villages I have gone to do not have water, except for a well. I know for various reasons how truly poor it is. The rates which the girls ask for in Kiev for a day or even an hour is what people make in a month and they all laugh at how much they charged the western business men. I just refuse to compromise and will not pay more.

Further in my experience there is not correlation between cost and quality, perhaps a slight inverse correlation.

A key factor is how much of the language you can speak and how much they size you up for. That is what hotel you stay in and what you dress like. If you go to a local agency or find some girl you meet and know some Russian or better yet Ukrainian and negotiate hard and charm them, you will get what you want, if you are lucky. If you are very good with the language and you know how to charm then this goes a long way.

Your right I did not go to the center for paid action. So this was a factor. And ...I check my pastport it was winter a couple of years ago so perhaps not as many tourists. And I shoped arround. I often walked away from girls that wanted more so my total numbers for the trip were not that high, but the ones I did get were at a lesser price. If you are meeting girls on the street being well dressed helps, "Clothes make the man". But in a walk in agency it does not matter, they often have a menu type price list in Russian and poor English. If you call an agency, what hotel you stay at does matter.

I think If I went back to Kiev today I could not get 30 usd from what I read but maybe I could get 50 usd or perhaps 40 usd. Whilst, in Warsaw I do not pay 200 pln nor even 150 pln, but wait until I can find someone for 100 pln (33 USD). Again it takes time. And I am a cheap guy.

I have been ripped off before many times, so all this comes with exprience.

That's what I thought, 2 years ago, and that's a long time for developping countries. As Cruiser D says, things have changed in Kiev. Cost-of-living has increased significantly (gaz is the most obvious problem with the Gazprom issue, but everything else as well), and the girls need more money to pay their bills. Inflation rate is 10%-15% per annum officially but, for rent and utilities, it's much more than that.

Ukraine is not the poorest country in Europe (and I wouldn't ask you when was the last time you visited each and every country in Europe ;)). Doctor_Skank already mentionned it, Russian money is heavily invested, but also more Western money since Yuchenko won the elections. Speculative money is injected into the country betting on the fact that Ukraine will be the next Eldorado. This is not the place for this kind of debate, but some businesses invest only in countries outside of the EU. The Group I'm working for already pulled out of Hungaria, and will do so in the Czech Republic soon, and you can see that their economy start facing problems with investors taking their profits and not reinvesting it in the country but in new ones like .... Ukraine.

My Group has been investing in Ukraine for 4-5 years and I go there once or twice a year, but we are slowing down now because prices and salaries are getting ridiculous. Now, I'm involved mainly with Belarus, they are poorer than Ukraine. I've been to Albania and Poland recently. Albania is clearly poorer, Poland is also poorer in my opinion (we pay lower salaries in Poland than in Ukraine).

I've not been to Moldova, but colleagues have been. They say it's clearly poorer than Ukraine. I've not been back to Bulgaria for many years so don't know how they progressed, but they were far from a wealthy country.

Statistics are what they are, an average (between Kiev and the most remote village of the country). It doesn't reflect the reality in Kiev.

Ukraine may be poorer than Poland overall (and it's a big "may"), but Kiev is more expensive [b]for me[/b] than Warsaw. How much did you pay for hotel in Warsaw and in Kiev? I pay more in Kiev, and my staff is paid more in Kiev. That's a fact, not statistics.

So if you have been to Warsaw and Kiev and have practical experience, I'll be pleased to hear from you. After all, the hotels and the staff in Kiev may be screwing me. If not, ...., as I said, it's just wishful thinking.
