Its essential to be there in the right season.

I would probably stay away given the excessive corruption levels on the Island that required the police to alter evidence and frame those poor Burmese guys for the murders. Thailand tries to maintain its illusion of justice, to avoid decimating tourism. Just means I would get a creepy feeling to be there.

Koh Tao is quite difficult to get to and very far. Had a rough bad weather boat trip and sea-sick. Not for mongering. I would give it a miss simply because Koh Phi Phi and Krabi is easier to get to. For a better nature place, in the south Koh Lipe and Adang is actually nicer. Satun (sounds like Sa-dtoon) province fly to Hat Yai. Not many Americans there, mainly Scandinavian types. Even some nice Swedish girls.

A good golf tour company, Chiangmaigolftours, has a big tournament in Pattaya in June and another in Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai (Tee off Cup) in October. Good bunch of guys from everywhere. A few guys live in CM and other guys have been going there for years.

They will organize a golf tour any time for a group or an individual.
