They have spent heaps for not much return lately.
That I'll grant you. But they did earn the heaps to start with. Apparently they did just fine last high season in both PP & SR, though of course the real test is the other 8 months of the year.
Not that I care much. They've become pretty irrelevant to all but guidebook-toting tourists.

The girls come to Casa karaoke in evening -- not all at once but more and more during the evening. I think there are lots more there evenings than daytime. Last time I asked, it was $50 for the girl LT but had to pay $15 fine. Or you could pay the $15 for a room there and spend time with her there first (tho then you would need to buy drinks etc.) I'm pretty sure that hotel is both gastfreundlich (in German) and guest friendly (English). ;)

Phnom Penh Report
I am currently on Phnom Penh and wanted to report some findings:
The Place (Just west of Street 51 on Sihanouk Boulevard).
Went there last night (Saturday) around 11pm and stayed until midnight. Very high end nightclub and a bit hard to work out really. I didnt see any obvious working girls although there were a few russian looking girls with Asian guys. I got the feeling that this was not a place for mongering or if it is then you coulod expect to pay high prices. I did see one Viet looking girls who looked like a possibility but she was really nothing special and didnt ask. Overall the place was really very quiet.
Street 63
I have used these places before and never any problem but this time was completely different. Never go to these places it is absolutely true that they will try to rip you off. I went in and they asked $30 for a girl and i said no way, $10 is maximum and they accepted this. Get into the room and girl asks me to hang my shorts on hook near door and I said no i keep on bed. She simply refused to go any further unless I hung my shorts on the hook. She shouted something then in Vietnamese and I quickly opened the door and sure enoogh i saw 2 guys outside the door who quickly bolted down the corridor!! Amazing and not an urban myth after all. I put my stuff back on and demanded my money back and finally we settled on half, meaning they gave me back $5...unbelievable man, why do they have to do that shit!! In contrast the plave on street 154 near to Norodom boulevard was fine and no problems at all. I dont think they any intention to rip people off there.
Luxury Hotel (Close to corner of Monivong and street 200)
This place is very hit or miss and frustrating. Graet selection of girls in the fish bowl and it seems i got really lucky on the first day. Lovely Khner girl who gave great full service including great yum yum for $25 no haggling. Went back today and bit of a nightmare. Lovely girl but wanted $60 for yum yum and boom boom!! I said no way and finally she agreed to $30 for boom boom only. The problem is that the rooms have doors with windows so every one can see what is happening as you walk by. First day was lucky as room was end of corridor so girl was ok that light was dimmed only....second day room was fully exposed and so she wanted to completely turn off the lights...to me this is totally pointless to P4P in the dark..so finally she wouldnt agree to have some light so we didnt do anything, just massage only. She was pretty pissed off but she would not relent on lighting or price. Weird thing is that their are hooks either side of window to hang a towel across but they refused to do this....really quite frustrating and seemed a little stupid to me, kimd of hard to work out the logic. This place seems very hit and miss.
Sharkeys, Martinis, Walkabout
Why in gods name would anyone ever go these places. Fucking awful awful places. If you are in Phnom Penh and still visiting these places then it is time to take a long hard look at yourself. End of story.
Streets 104 and 136
These bars are pretty good and really quiet now so the girls are very keen to go with customers, Took an absolutely lovely, slim 20 year old Khmer girl from a bar on 104 but i cant remember the name of the bar. Plenty to choose from there though. All the girls seemed keen to go with a client as there are very few clients around. Highly recommended for a look. Paid the girl $25 and $10 to the bar (not sure if that is right or not) but she was an absolute stunner.
Le Cyrcee
Gone way down hill in my opinion. Full of mostly lower teir Khmer girls now. What happened to all the hard body Vietnamese girls!! It was ok though and the rooms upstairs were functioning and i did take one girl up there. In fairness the service was excellent and although I prefer the hard body Vietnamese this girl was very service minded and included very good and unhurried yum yum.
Summary
Phnom Penh has gone way way way down hill over the years and the slide continues. In my opinion no longer a whoring destination of note although in fairness I did have a great time but took quite a lot of effort and a few wasted dollars here and there. Big question is what the hell happened to all the Vietnamese girls?? That for me used to be the highlight of Phnom Pemh but they are pretty much gone now. This place is very quiet at the moment and I would have to say that it is a buyers market right now. I doubt that I will ever come back to Phnom Penh for whoring but realise that it could be especially quiet now as it is low season.

I agree with you.
Ten years ago was a different world Phnom Penh. Now for me it's a disappointment
Phnom Penh has gone way way way down hill over the years and the slide continues.
I'd say rather that it's changing, in ways that are good and bad.
The Street 63 brothels have always been dodgy and now they're just totally outrageous. No need to keep testing this out.
Sharkeys, Martinis, Walkabout: Agreed, pretty dreadful. One can find the occasional OK girl if you're willing to spend time in these places . . . but why do that?
Cyrcee: Sadly, I agree here too. I used to love this place but the current lineup is unimpressive.
104 & 136: This is the good part of the change. The hostess bars here, and elsewhere, are getting better than ever. It takes more effort, more money, and more chance of disappointment, but both quality and quantity are up, and there is some exquisite talent to be had.
In general I think the changes favor residents over visitors, especially if you speak a bit of Khmer. And, as you say, there's been a definite Khmer-isation of the scene. I too miss the Viet girls, but it was part of a certain historical generation and we probably won't see them in such numbers again.

I've never been a fan of Walkabout or Sharky's -- have stopped in a few times but never saw anything I'd take in those 2 -- not sure if that's jsut luck or what. However, on my last 2 visits to PP, I've had great success in Martini. On each visit I spotted a really special cutie on the dance floor. First one was a petite, thin big-breasted new girl, 18 I believe, who was just delicious and all-out in bed. Second time was a tallish thin girl with a beautiful face. Only drawback was that she'd had a baby, but again at 19 and stunning, wish I had a mother who looked like that. I'd just been in Bangkok, and I did not see any girl at Nana or Cowboy who could match this one in looks. OK so maybe I was lucky. Last visit there was 2007, hard to believe its dropped off drastically since then.
Anyway, what is your problem (those of you who don't like it) with Martini, exactly? Some are turned off by the darkness of that dance floor. If you stay in there a few minutes your eyes adjust, and then (for me at least) it's the best spot in the place. I have been there some nights when there wasn't much interesting available, so I can understand your being down on it if that's been your experience. Over the years, for me Martini has always been a place that can be great one night and a dud the next. Even when it was at its old location in the southwest corner of the city (original spot). My first time there was 2001.

In 2007 Martinis was still passable..i agree with that.....you cannot begin to imagine how much it has changed since then....it looks like a home for lost HIV and drug adicted single mothers.....the dance floor is empty now and so is the outdoor garden...maybe 30 nasty, HIV loking single moms mostly in their late twenties and early thirties....and the Vietnamese are all gone. This for me is the worst part of the demise of Phnom Penh...the complete lack of Vietnamese girls now!! They are noweher to be found anymore.
Last night I was in Cheerleaders in Street 136 and yes there were some really nice looking Khmer girls but they just dont quite do it for me....then some guy walked in with his Vietnamese girlfriend who used to work there and she was stunning an just infinetly (in my opinion) more sexy than th cambodian girls....it made me realise why I wanst really chomping at the bit to barfine a cambodian girl..while they are nice they just dont come anywhere close to those hard bodied Vietnamese girls....even the slim Cambodian girls just dont seem to have any firmness about them...
Always amazes me the physical difference between Thai, Cambodian and Vietnamese even though they are so geographically close...sorry waffling now.
Point is that since 2007 you cant blieve how far downhill Martinis (or Phnom Penh for that matter) has gone for the casual visitor.

PP reliable broadband?
Hey there, after browsing through the forum for a couple of weeks now I thought its time to pop my cherry.
I am doing a SEA trip in the end of this year and need a place to stay that has reliable broadband con. I assume staying in hostels won't do the job then right? Can you guys recommend any sources where I can find cheap condos in PP area?
Thanks,
Keep it up
Matt

Strange. Why do you think this happened? It is slow season, so that can't help.
My last 2 finds in Cambodia were both Khmer, so that's no problem for me. I don't have preferences -- or, I prefer attractive girls regardless where they come from. There's certain types I see in Cambodia that I find more exotic than Vietnamese, sometimes, and then plenty of others that I don't. Both these were like that. Really beautiful girls are actually rare -- I'd guess less than 1 in 1000 girls. But I'd say I see some in every country I go to. Doesn't sound like you're seeing too many lately. Anyway, for me in PP, there've been plenty of nights where I didn't find what I was hoping for. But also some lucky strikes. PP doesn't really have enough monger tourists to inspire its scene to grow, so it's pretty much up to the guys to sniff out where the girls have gone to, and then go there.

Best times of Martini
Martini I conceived in 2000 and for me were the best times of Martini. Very few tourists. Was full of very pretty vietnam girls. It was the best time of Martini.
SovanMee taxi driver that was my best year. I did the very best in Phnom Penh Thanks Sovana Mee. I hope to see you in August.

Thanks for posting Bowerboy, but sad you still got ripped for $5 and came away empty( at least cop a feel with the gal since you were there already).
BTW the real rate is $5 to begin with--bargain hard and you can get this rate as they are more interested in whats in your wallet =(hey this almost sounds like a Capital One card commercial) and trying to get you upstairs.
Just had to highlight what you said here as I had often told many many newbies(and some senior members) that this is NOT an urban myth (unlike the alligators in the NYC sewers) and shit does happen here. I can't count the number of times some bro PM me and said "I should've listen to you etc etc"-I will not mention any names as they all learned the lesson the hard way.
Still, having read all this, some will always try their luck there as they think this is "fun"-as told by a monger here. Well, good luck as several of us have gave fair warnings now.

Back in Phnom Penh
After few weeks I am back and PP due to some business.
Weather is boring and the usual P4P places are almost empty.
Definitely a buyer market.
I cannot understand who complains about people who still "hunts" in the usual areas (Martini's, Sharky, Walkabout, etc.).
For sure there are many other interesting new places to visit.
But they start to look very similar to many bars in Thailand.
And if I want to spend an evening "hunting" in a beer bar or in a go-go no better place that Pattaya or Bangkok, why losing my time to come here in the 4th world Cambodia?
What used to make this Country (well. Phnom Penh) so different were the very sleazy and relaxed mood and the atmosphere that you can find (yes still now!) in these old bars.
Right now in Cambodia you got to watch your back more carefully than before (. Specially if you like to drink a lot and walk around alone in the night) but just talking about "hunting" among the many girls that indeed you find here, and you can find ladies for every taste, for sure you still can find some diamond in the rubbish! No bullshit.
Saturday Martini's was packed with girls, sharky's was ok, walkabout full after 3 am.
Nice, young, smiling and beatyful ladies. And also few monsters.
But that's normal. And generally speaking they are for sure younger and more beautyful and slimmer that the average beerbar ladies in Thailand!
So what the heck! This is a wonderful time if you play smart and have the time to choose.
Have a good holiday!
