You can rent a car in San Diego and Drive it across the Border only from certain Rental Car agencies that offer Auto Insurance in Mexico for an increased fee. I have never done this myself so I cannot tell you exactly how much it is, nor which Rental Companies offer this.

2. Yes, you are able to rent a car in Mexico but unless you speak Fluent Spanish I would not recommend it. Also, there are stories of Rental Car Agencies trying to claim damage on their rental vehicles that you may not have been responsible for.

3. If you are a first timer and do not speak fluent Spanish, I would recommend using Uber as it will significantly cut back on potential headaches, stress and problems.

4. As far as your safety while walking, it depends on which area of the zone and also depends on your hotel location. My first choice would be to take an uber. The currency exchange rate make the uber trips very affordable. 2nd Choice, take a taxi, but make sure you negotiate the price with the driver before you enter the taxi.

Also note, Vehicles with California / US License plates with Non-Hispanic drivers are targets of opportunity for the Police to allege various violations such as Illegal window tint, Failure to Stop at a sign, etc. And subsequently search for a Bribe aka "mordida."

3. Uber and Taxis are more than abundant in Tijuana and the centro area is very walkable for where you want to go.

4. Up to you and where you are staying. Tijuana is a city. Cities have crime but some people live in cities and never experience any crime. Up to you and luck I guess. Take common sense precautions and you will probably be fine.

I have rented from them in San Diego and driven to Tijuana. Costs an extra 50-75 dollars. Better to walk over and get an UBER so you don't get stopped like I have several times previously or get caught driving drunk. Do not walk to the zona unless you want to get choked out and lose all of your belongings.

Even walking to revolution, you could encounter drunk locals. If your trying to live in Tijuana and accepted the risk that's different. But if your just visiting just take the taxi because if you stand in front of HK looking at your cell for uber at midnight, a lot can go wrong. Your head will be down, your phone will be out, the taxi guys will be begging you, and a dozen other people will be asking you for money since your standing still. Jump in the taxi for the hotel. And driving is another world of problems between insurance police getting lost.

Lastly, is the scene better in the day, does the quality get better at night in terms of street girls, and then are Uber's to and from the beach cheap relative to US Uber's?

Sounds like my best bet is to just not rent a car and stay close to the girls, and I see a lot of people write about renting rooms with the street ladies. Is it safe to bring them back to your hotel / Airbnb? Will they come back with their friends and rob you? Basically trying to figure out why everyone's renting a room the girls offers.

Are Airbnb's safe? If reviewed well?

Is there a reason that people rent rooms with the girls, that they recommend? Would you consider it safe to take a girl to your Airbnb? IE will they return to rob you later?

Is it safe to get an Airbnb of the reviews are good?

Lastly, is the WiFi / internet reliable enough to work for an extended period of time in Tijuana?

1. Rental cars cannot be taken out of state due to insurance, but if you buy Mexico's liability and comprehensive insurance, you will be covered.

2. Rental car in Mexico is very cheap, $1 -2 a day, but they will try to make you buy their insurance for $15-16 a day. Budget and National has rental offices ion Revo.

3. Street girls will not leave their hotels, only work out of their assigned hotels. Very hard to convince street girls to switch hotels left alone to go outside La Zona.

4. There are people late at night to 10-11 Pm on Revo and Constitucion and you can walk, but there are still risks of robberies and policia shakedowns. UBER is only $2-3 from La Zona to most places in Centro Tijuana, why take a risk?

Also, it's a much shorter walk to the Zona. The only drawback is you can't parade in an endless sea of escorts because once you register one, you're done for that stay. You could have her visit you 10 times but it's her and that's it. But if you're more about banging bargirls, I think Rio Rita works better and that's saying a lot for me because I'm a pretty loyal Ticuan fan.

Cars with California plates are a magnet for cops and they will make up an excuse to pull you over whether you've done anything or not. If you really are intent on renting a car, get one with non-California plates.

I'm as old white and gringoy as you can get. I'm in Tijuana just about every weekend having the time of my life (knock on wood) . Sometimes drives stop at red lights, sometimes they slowly craw across while looking both ways. Many of the main boulevards are one way streets and you don't know it until you think you see people driving on the wrong side of the road. Lanes are fucked up and not clearly marked. Or they paint the new lanes but forgot to erase the old lanes. Hills are black diamond. Potholes will blow out your tires. Ever tried to change a tire at midnight in low lighting? Unless you want to drive down to Rosarito or Ensenada, just take Uber. Tijuana is not a cultural center. This isn't Mexico City. There is not that much to see.

If you hotel is adjacent to the clubs, you are okay. About 2 block north of the clubs is the beginning of Drug central where cops stop perps only if escorted by Marines. Don't go there. Otherwise, walk where you see a lot of people. If a street is empty, there is a reason for that. Common sense really. Regardless of whether you are in Afghanistan or Inglewood, you don't go to a location where the locals cleared out. There is a reason for that.

Just my opinion.

Is it possible to have sex with 50 yo women and what do you do if you're married to one. I went to the pool over superbowl weekend, and saw a bunch of 50 somethings in their one peice bathing suit, and thought "I could never have sex with any of these girls and they are my age". [/QUOTE]Absolutely true. The insurance is not optional CDW like in the US and it can be $30-40/ day. What you think is a $10/ day rental ends up being $50/ day. Worse, The sites sell "insurance" which is completely useless, you still have to buy the insurance with the car. Bait-and-switch is an understatement. It's outright fraud by the booking sites.

[/QUOTE]I drive down a lot and haven't had a problem with this. If you look around, half the cars have California plates. I don't have an expensive car though and don't wash it a lot. Saw them pull over a nice clean Mercedes in front of me the other day. Poverty is power.

They did search me and might have nicked a 20 off me once. Would not be fun if you had drugs on you. Used to be braver, but now I try stay inside, move quickly between clubs and Uber in and out. Never had a problem, but no need to invite trouble.
