So, last Thursday was my first night in the Medellin monger scene. As money isn't really an issue for me I decided to visit what's supposed to be the most exclusive strip club according to posts on this board, La isla. If you checked your bank account to see the amount withdrawn, the Citibank transaction would have included the fee, thus the lower exchange rate. Citibank is one of the few banks there that charges an ATM fee. Even though Schwab reimburses the ATM fee, I avoid Citibank because of the fee. Unfortunately, Bancolombia does not accept the Schwab card, but all the others I have tried accept it.

I believe it must be the newer cards with chip. The machine will tell you not to remove the card as its reading the chip. Since I get reimbursed fees I don't look much anymore but I do believe Bancolombia ask if your OK with some fee. I will look closer next time.

If I go to another ATM, does this bank also charge a fee? Since I'm prepaying my hotels costs, I don't think I'll have that many expenses so I can get by with just a couple of withdrawals in my stay. It just seems like a lot of trouble to open an account to avoid fees. If the exchange rate is 3300 or 3400, that's not material to me. So if I use the Citibank ATM, then there are no additional fees, just the $5?

Its an ATM. Last night I made one more transaction at a different Bancolombia ATM in Parque Lleras area and this time the exchange rate is 3409.42 COP / 1 USD.
